Carl Martin makes perhaps the best MIAB with their Plexitone. I have heard great reviews of their line and this pedal is no exception. I have been playing for about 25 years; been through countless overdrives. This one stands out!
The gain is VERY TRANSPARENT with no mid hump or loss of low end. Crunches nicely. Sounds stellar through a clean amp or slightly dirty. The boost is independant of the overdrive side. You can have either or, OR BOTH. Not to many overdrives have this feature. The boost is adjustable. Not full throttle like in many other overdrives.
The boost adds a slight touch of gain. I like using it on a fat medium dirty channel to get into a highly ARTICULATE, TIGHT, CRUNCHY hard rock/metal tone or for leads to cut through.
One more great feature: NO NOISE! Even at higher gain settings with or without the boost. This pedal is dead silent. No pops when switching on or off either.
