OVERVIEW

Era-defining plate reverb with studio-style controls.

Catalinbread are proud to brag that the Talisman is 479.99% smaller than the leading plate reverb. They've always felt something was amiss with so-called œplate reverb settings on many products in the marketplace. Let's be honest, they often simply sounded thin, metallic and not so good.

Catalinbread's goal was to capture all the goodness of classic studio plate reverb by actually experiencing a maintained EMT140 at Jackpot Studios with recording engineer Larry Crane. Because plate reverb was born in the studio, on the Talisman they included studio style sidechain effects that are routinely paired with plates. These controls are PRE DELAY, which delays the reverb by about 100mS. And HIGH PASS, which rolls off the low frequencies of the reverb. Both of these controls allow you to tune the reverb, in order to keep it from interfering with the dry signal.

Listen to any recording from the 70' and you™ll most likely hear the sound of a plate reverb, a giant mechanical contraption roughly the size of a king size bed. It was ubiquitous in the studio, and was the only reverb used on Pink Floyd's iconic Dark Side of the Moon album for example. What made plate reverb so cool? It adds lush ambience, dimension, thickness, and depth in an unobtrusive way. When you listen to your favorite albums from the 70s you probably don't even realize how much plate reverb you are hearing. Go back and listen and hone in on the reverb sound and you™ll probably be surprised how much reverb is actually there. In the studio the plate reverb signal was often processed on the way back to the console where the things like filtering and delays were applied.

Comments about Catalinbread Talisman Plate Reverb Guitar Effects Pedal:

I watched 50+ yt vids trying to decide which reverb pedal to get. I finally decided that this guy was the one i wanted for my ambient type cleans. It can hit everything from pink floyd to preiphery. I wish i had 2 of them, as i think i want to have more than 1 type of verb - 1 for regular cording to give some body and then single note infinities for the ambient style. Maybe i'll have to buy another or get good at turning knobs with my feet between songs.

I put it in the loop at the end (loop send -> noise gate B-path -> chorus -> delay - > verb-> loop rtn). In front of the amp i have an OD.

Since adding this to the end, my noise level is a bit higher. The gate has no effect. Perhaps i juggled a cable or routed power over a 1/4" and picked up some noise. My board set up is still a work in progress because....

My one gripe is the power insert is on the left side, not on the top like every single other pedal i have. This means i have to re-route my entire board as my power outlet will not reach it. There's no battery option either. The outlet case hole is also a bit small-- i use the tu-3 as a power block and the boss pcs-20a daisy chain power out, and the power cord needs to be pushed in HARD to fit the hole and make a solid connection. It tends to get caught on the frame. Not a big deal, just be aware of it, as I 'shorted' out my power strip the first time it slipped out and grounded on the metal of the pedal case. No damage luckily, just had to hit the trip/reset button on it.

I also wish it could have presets or banks... There's so many good tones in here, but there's only access to 1 type without turning 5 knobs. I guess i'll have to get a 2nd unit :)

Comments about Catalinbread Talisman Plate Reverb Guitar Effects Pedal:

First, I am an intermediate-level guitarist that mostly plays at home for purely personal enjoyment. I love the versatility of this pedal as you can really dial-in a wide range of reverb and other effects. I really like the High Pass feature, which controls the amount of reverb for higher tones/pitches vs. lower tones/pitches . . . you can essentially cut-out the reverb on higher tones. Also, the pedal has some delay effects, and the volume dial can be used a bit like a clean overdrive.
