Finally, Crate produces a tube amp after years of dominating the solidstate market and all i can say is its about time. There is only one problem I can see with the V-Series, and that is the effects options. Now don't get me wrong, the effects are cool, my problem lies within their availability. Enter the paradox: a great tube amp sound that even comes with effects but the effects can't be switched mid-play or mixed. The question I ask myself as an owner of this amp is "Why would they give me all these effects but only allow one to be used at a time on a given channel?" Maybe it's just me but I don't get that. I would hope that in the future the V-Series will become a staple of the Crate name (even though they elected to remove their name from the exterior)but I likewise hope that Crate will consider making simultaneous multiple effects an option. Also, I think it would beneficial to Crate to offer a multiple distortion tube amp in the future.

After hearing bad things about Crate for years, I decided to make my own decision about their line. I liked the sound of this amp, and the price was right. Within a week, though, I began to notice that when I cranked it, the sound cut out and turned to static. Replaced the tubes, but had no luck. Sent it to Crate for repair, got it back six weeks later. It still had the problem, and it seemed to be worsening. Traded for a Peavey Classic 50, and I couldn't be happier.

This amp sounds wonderful - best tube amp value!

By Anonymous

I did not expect an amp that sounds this good to be so reasonable on price. Comes with that spongey yet agressive attack, pleasing tube distortion and a very nice clean channel not to mention very nice digital effects as a bonus! I really enjoy this amp.

very versatile

I've been searching for a tube amp in the just under $1,000 dollar range. Checked out mesa, fender, ibanez and other all tube amps. This one is the most versatile for the money. The sounds are unbelievable. The clean is very warm and gives that concert hall sound, while the gain with distortion is just as awesome. Also like the top access to the knobs, and the fact that it is on casters. I was a crate fan in the early 80's but more recently disapointed, until now. Crate is back! Try one for yourself and you wont believe it.

This is one smoking amp. The clean channel with my strat is crystal clear. The distortion has a great range. It can be dialed from something similar to the Fender DeVille's distortion to crunchy metal. The effects are a nice touch, not too much. Just enough to give a little extra flavor without being overbearing. It would be nice to be able to adjust the rate, though. I've only had the amp for one month and there is an occasional rattling sound that I can't find, but my local shop can work on that. All in all, this is killer amp with tons of versatility and enough power to fill any club. The looks are a bonus, too.

Great

By justifide8

this is an excellent, excellent buy. I didn't believe a Crate could put out such tone until I played it. Truly rich and flavorful, and makes the majority of my distortion effects obsolete because of its wide tonal range. Overall: excellent, wonderful tube amp.

I Never Thought...

By Hiram5147

This amp had me on looks alone! It is classy. I plugged in and had to do a double take. I had to go ask who made this amp. My jaw dropped. I swore I would never buy a Crate. Now I can't stop bragging and all my friends are in shock! I don't miss my Marshall, I had to crank it up just to get the tone... not this amp.

It's crap. Sorry.

By StratFan-s9VLS

from North Carolina

Bought it new, loved the effects and the tube tone. It was very smooth and articulate at high gain settings. In less than two weeks I started having problem after problem and it stayed in the local Crate service center more than in my house. Demanded my money back, got store credit and like the previous poster I got a Peavey (XXX combo).

Great amp for the $

By Player-yu0Q_

This is a great sounding amp. Lots of headroom on the clean channel. The distortion takes some work to keep it from getting buzzy but that's common. The digital effects are OK but I would trade them all for a good analog reverb. Had it a year with no problems.
