A legendary effect that's spanned 23 years and graced over 700 million albums.
There is no doubt that the DigiTech Whammy Pitch-Shifting guitar effects pedal is a pedal board must have. Pitch shifting effects help a guitar performance stand out, and the Whammy pedal has been a core pitch shifting effect for influential artists for over 20 years. Whammy artists have won over 60 Grammys using the Whammy pitch shifting sound to enhance their music. Its songs echo the hallways of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and can be found on over 700 million albums around the world. The legendary Whammy pedal is the premier pitch shifting pedal for any guitarist's board, and it only gets better with classic single note Whammy bends, chordal pitch shifting and true bypass.

I love how certain players use this pedal. Bucketed is the absolute master of the Digitech Whammy. I like Buckethead and got a whammy to try for myself. The only time I actually use it during performance as a ad-lib bit. The problem is that when its engaged it sucks the life out of your tone. Its like going from an all tube amp to using an iRig to play your guitar through your cell phones speakers. The effects are crazy awesome though. People that don't know gear that hear you play, bug out when they are trying to figure out how in the world you are getting those crazy sounds. The pedal needs recalibrate all the time. For no reason, even when you have the pedal on heel down, when you engage the unit the pitch will shift. The dive bomb effects are crazy for weird rumbling effects. All in all, typical of my experience with Digitech, they aren the best effects tonally. But if you want to go weeeee-ooohhhhh, weed-ohhhhhh a bunch for the fun of it, this is your pedal

By far the best sounding whammy pedal with Vintage look & design. Almost look like the original WH-1. Smaller size with impressive sound. Very warm & smooth sounding. The Whammy-V sounded great on both solid-state and tube amp.

Comments about DigiTech Whammy Pitch-Shifting Guitar Effects Pedal:

Great upgrade from previous models - true bypass, cleaned up/non glitchy tone, even on chords. The first pedal shipped to me was a mess. First off I had to recalibrate it, which is fine. Secondly, it produced a "kettle whistle" tone just by being turned on in front (and in the fx loop) of a handful of amps (except for the fx loop of my reverb pro for some reason). Digitech would've had me take it to a licensed repair person. MF simply emailed me a prepaid shipping label and sent me a new unit before I even sent mine back. The new one worked fine. No annoying whistling and no calibration necessary. MF for the win!!

Comments about DigiTech Whammy Pitch-Shifting Guitar Effects Pedal:

This pedal is just amazing! there are so many different things this pedal can do! and do well! the tracking on this pedal in classic mode gives you the same glitches as the older whammy models do, but in chords mode there are no glitches when playing chords whatsoever! The pedal itself is built really solid, not worried about it breaking at all. If you like playing Rage Against The Machine, White Stripes, KoRn, etc, then get this! you won't be disappointed!

excellent pedal. It does all that the factory description says it does. Great octave drops and it tracks very well with chords.
Harmony section is especially good !

I've wanted a whammy forever, so when I saw that the new one was coming out I finally purchased it. It's fantastic for playing White Stripes. I don't really use most of the settings, I only really use the octave harmonies, Up one and Down one octave. Although it isn't incredibly versatile, it is very useful and allows a lot of freedom during solo's. I don't use the new "chordial" setting, just classic. If you've ever wanted a whammy, just buy it.

Robust, compact, excellent sound. I'm really impressed with the responsiveness of the expression pedal, a lot that I've used are too stiff or way too pliant, this one seems to find that happy medium. I really only got this pedal to emulate bass with my guitar, but I've since found myself playing extensively with the harmonic mode. Good stuff. Highly recommend

I know a ton of people love this pedal, but I just don't get it. The tracking is terrible. It will NOT handle chords. The foot cotrol needs recalibrated constantly. It forgets which section it's in. The LED will say "octave up" but it will be playing an octave down. You can get some cool White Stripes and RATM sounds, but for the price it's just not worth it. Gimmick.

Comments about DigiTech Whammy Pitch-Shifting Guitar Effects Pedal:

Bought this in a heartbeat to replace my Digitech Whammy IV, which is a fantastic pedal but lacks the sound quality and additional features of this latest version: the Whammy V.

For the uninitiated: The Digitech Whammy is a versatile pitch-shifting, harmonizer, octave, drop-tune, and chorus pedal used extensively by at least one of your favorite pro guitarists: Johnny Greenwood, Tom Morello, Jack White, Matt Bellamy, Buckethead, and countless others. I use it not just to replicate parts of their songs--Johnny's +2-octave riff in "Just", the solo in "Like a Stone", the "bass" line in "Seven Nation Army"--but in plenty of my own songs, both live and in the studio. The construction is solid and designed for both touring and in-studio use--durable but not too heavy, big but not obnoxious.

Next, the upgrades: This new Whammy comes with two huge improvements. The first is true-bypass switching. Previous models are well known for being tone-sucking beasts, and although there is still a noticeable change in your sound when this latest version is on, when it's off it's off. The other massive upgrade is polyphonic tracking while pitch-shifting, which means it can shift entire chords up or down without sounding glitchy or garbled (e.g., "My Iron Lung"). For people who like that glitchy Whammy IV sound and want the option to use it, there's now a Classic/Chords switch which lets you do just that. On the cosmetic side, Digitech renamed a few modes, reorganized the layout, and brought back the Whammy logo on the expression pedal. All of these upgrades are godsends for long-time users.

Finally, the drawbacks: First, as always, there is no "intelligent" harmonizer setting, so you're still limited to choosing an interval--4th, 5th, 7th--and not a key--Bb, C#, E--for your harmonies. Also, this latest version keeps the MIDI jack but ditches the dry output, which is a bummer.

Overall, the Whammy V is a phenomenal improvement over the IV and a unique pedal in its own right.

                      5/5

I was looking for a pedal that would give me that old tremolo sound of the 50's and 60's from a guitar that has no whammy bar. It sounds just like what I used to get on my strat. The unit is well built, too. So far, I'm very pleased.

Comments about DigiTech Whammy Pitch-Shifting Guitar Effects Pedal:

You definitely get a great pedal at a great value. If you like to experiment with sounds often get one, if you're going to buy it for one song then you probably shouldn't because you'll get tired of it soon.

For my playing it is something that inspires creation and experimentation in many different ways.
