Comments about Electro-Harmonix Nano Small Stone Phase Shifter Guitar Effects Pedal:
Replaced a lousy Akai phaser....this phaser is quiet, nice unprocessed sound, easy to get the sound you like. might need a level and wet/dry adjuster, but for the price it is very good. def fine for gigs in noisy bars!!

Comments about Electro-Harmonix Nano Small Stone Phase Shifter Guitar Effects Pedal:
I wasn't sure if EH could cram all of the sonic goodness of the regular Small Stone into that little Nano Series enclosure, but they did! I have an MXR "script logo" Phase 90. It is a great sounding phaser, but the Small Stone has always sounded more smooth, liquid and musical to my ears. Plus, the toggle switch in the "up" position gives you really funky auto wah-like tones; a feature you don't get with the Phase 90. Both pedals are well made, the same compact size and within the same price range (although, the "script" reissue is going to run you more than the regular Phase 90). The MXR is more robust with its thicker, heavier case. On the other hand, the Small Stone is true bypass. A tough call! But if you can only buy one, my vote goes to the Small Stone.

Great Pedal for the money. It's simple to use and sounds great. The color switch helps get those deep phaser tones. For a simple, good quality, compact phaser this one does the trick.

Comments about Electro-Harmonix Nano Small Stone Phase Shifter Guitar Effects Pedal:
Overall, a very fun little pedal to add another flavor to your sound. Quiet switching, simple set up and sounds amazing with single coils and clean tones. Very defined sweep. The one and only downside I've found has been with the color switch engaged while using moderately hot pickups, parts of the sweep sound very vocal, more like an auto wah. Which, don't get me wrong is pretty cool, but it strays away from phase tones. It sounded very watery in a demo I watched which I liked. I'll continue trying it with different guitars and overdrives to find a good tone.
Comments about Electro-Harmonix Nano Small Stone Phase Shifter Guitar Effects Pedal:
great value and excellent sound.
there are only a few features, but they are excellent. The rate knob gives you a range of speeds to choose from and the color switch gives you two totally different phases.
for the cost, this is a fantastic pedal. the true bypass gives it a very clear sound.
best value you can get. probably one of the cheapest phases out there.
Comments about Electro-Harmonix Nano Small Stone Phase Shifter Guitar Effects Pedal:
Great sounding, well made & reasonable priced. You can't go wrong. Buy one.
I first plugged it into the front of the amp with no other effects and I heard a bunch of familiar tones from my younger days. It's very lush, very low noise. the color switch in the down position yields a typical phase effect (very lush). In the up position, the effect is much stronger, great for clean to slight break up tones. It makes your guitars sound huge, It's the kind of pedal that stays on all night. I prefer this pedal to any of the MXR models.
It's going to live in my smoke free home studio always plugged in, the battery removed. So it's going to live a good life. But it looks & feels really strong. There's 1 knob, one DTDP switch & a footswitch, there's not a lot to go wrong with it. I'd gig with it without a back up.
This price for such a great sounding effect that players will keep on all night is very reasonable.

Great sound, if you just want to add a little "thickness" to your sound, just a small amount will make a big difference!
Not many features, just great sound, I had one of the originals, lost it early 80's.... miss it! The early ones had a little hiss, but messing with my amp helped that.
Comments about Electro-Harmonix Nano Small Stone Phase Shifter Guitar Effects Pedal:
Great pedal.
I was a long time user of the "traditional chassis" Small Stone. Unfortunately, the old workhorse had to be put out to stud. After briefly dabbling in other phasers (MXR Phase 100, Boss PH-2) I remembered why I loved my Small Stone so much in the first place. It is, quite simply, the best phaser out there. Not only do you get great traditional phase sounds when the color switch is "down," you have an unbelievably thick phase option when the switch is "up." I have never used another phaser (including stuff I've borrowed and played in stores but never owned) that is cabaple of the thickness of "up" position small stone phasing.
I was really, really skeptical of buying something from the EHX Nano line. I am huge proponent of EHX and I own a lot of there stuff. But I had yet to have an experience with any of the Nano pedals that even came close to the high standard of quality that I expect from EHX. The Nano Small Stone is sole exception to the rule for the Nano line. It sounds exactly like the original and it is solidly built. I actually like the smaller casing.
It only does phasing, but dang, it does phasing well. As mentioned again, you get great traditional phase sounds plus the soupy "up" position sounds that you can only get with a Small Stone. The pedal isn't "cheap" per se, but it is definitely comeptively priced. My last Small Stone lasted for ten years without a single problem, before becoming the victim of a freak electrical accident. All of my EHX gear is dang-near bullet proof. So you're definitley making a one-time investment.
Comments about Electro-Harmonix Nano Small Stone Phase Shifter Guitar Effects Pedal:
I would like to see Electro Harmonix take a little more time to make sure everything is A-OK before releasing thier products.Other than that, the pedal works great, and sounds great so I'm going to keep it on my board until it doesn't.
Features? it only has one knob-sheeesh!But it does have two distinct phasing voices which you can choose between with the "color" switch. The up position is a heavier effect, which you may or may not like(think Zappa solo with HEAVY phase saturation)I personally prefer the down position, which is a more subtle effect that blends in beatifully with either chording or soloing, and is a full rich sounding phase signal(think "Lightning Crashes" by Live)It is a useful effect to have and I use it in several songs.
It is a metal box, which looks like cast aluminum. When I got the pedal it had been used and returned by someone else who stripped the threads in the screw holes. The bottom plate was loose and I had to really fenagle the screws to get it on tight,so beware you folks who use batteries(I do not)as there is no easy way to change it.A power supply is a much better option with this pedal. Also the on/off switch is very loud-(not an electrical pop,but a mechanical one)not a big deal live, but something that will probably have to be edited out in a recording situation. The sound quality is amazing,so E.H. should have really nitpicked a little more on the mechanical Q.C. when reissuing this pedal IMO.I do not have any volume dropoff issues that some reviewers have mentioned,Maybe it is a board placement issue,I have my small stone at the end of my signal chain, right before the wah pedal, and then the cable goes directly into my guitar.
When it comes to phase shifters, this one is right on top of the food chain.BUT-there are alot of other pedals to choose from(the other popular choice would be the MXR Phase 90)as well as others.I think this pedal sounds great,I also think it could have been built better.Somewhere in between those two realities is the price tag, which is reasonable. So I think this is a GOOD value, but it could have been a great value with a little more care taken on the assembly line.
Comments about Electro-Harmonix Nano Small Stone Phase Shifter Guitar Effects Pedal:
I gave this a 5 star not because it is the best phaser but because it is really unique. It at least has a "color" switch for some varience the MXR does not (except for the dual mode EVH.MXRs are great phasers and if you like that, phase in front of gain thing, then that is probably more your direction. The Small Stone sounds best when an OD or gain is fed into it and that is that. It has a unqiue weird warble and you have to find where to use the color switch as sometimes it's not right for the sweep. If you've heard Page live you have heard this phaser on Nobody's Fault..., Achilles..., and others. It's got that cool in- between a phase and vibe sweep that Pagey used to trail his arm in pulse as if he was casting something magical. It was cool and is still a cool tone. The MXRs cannot do this tone. The Nano upgrades the old Stone w some new tech which improves it. I dig it. I can see where the MXR would be more generically liked but this is a really cool and different phaser. For only $78 it's hard to pass up.
