I've had the micro POG for several months now and like any good product I like it more over time. Friends of mine have had octave type pedals with only one octave, either above or below and felt like one trick ponies. Having both the above and below octaves gives you a lot of versatility, making it a very usable pedal to thicken your sound, brighten it, or just give you a wall of sound. What really sold me on the pedal is when I decided to learn some of George Harrison's Rickenbacker 360 12-string solo's on on my Rick 330. Turned the Sub octave off, cranked Dry and Up, and had my Boss DS-1 feeding into it. I was blown away with how similar it sounded. It turned my guitar into a 12 string. And that's one example of what you can do with it, especially when you use it with other pedals.Used in the right context this pedal sounds awesome and is of the highest quality. But the make you pay for it! I even had a cat puke on it and it was fine.

I got this to start doing solo shows with a drum machine & multi-octave guitar. I write mathy-freejazz riffs and until I've got a group in which to compose improvisable free rock, I thought I'd try to get booked as an opener with this through a loop pedal with a drum machine. I can add enough low-end to not sound cheesy if I keep the low octave slightly quieter than the dry signal, and have the high octave barely on. Also, if you play with loops and find yourself unable to cut through the swarm you've made to solo, I've had some luck using all the octaves that way, but it's not a great effect for collaborating with other musicians as it really kinda boxes out other tones

There's a slight delay to the pedal generated octaves which makes the high one sound, in my opinion, pretty corny (on overdriven telecasters and danelectro baritone guitars through a fender hot rod). The low octave, if turned up higher than the dry sound, can sound a bit contrived as well, but if you only use it for self-consciously huge solos I'm sure it'd work fine. Overall I remembered it working a little better at guitar center--probably because I initially tried out the Pitchfork polyphonic harmony generator pedal, and without the ability to control the volume of both dry and effect, that one sounded really fake. This one is good because you can customize the amount of effect, but not perfect.

Great Octave Low

Comments about Electro-Harmonix XO Micro POG Polyphonic Octave Generator Guitar Effects Pedal:

I have had this pedal for about 6 months now so feel I am ready to review it. This is not a pedal/effect which I had originally considered when building my latest pedal board but came upon this type of effect while researching Hendrix and his "cheese wedge" octave pedal and other artist that use this type of effect. I had looked at the Boss octave pedal which was very highly rated but it was only an octave down ( not up ) pedal. I had purchased/tested the Voodoo labs pedal but had to send it back as it is true analog and picked up tons of RFI (radio interference). I have a few other Electro HX pedals and found this one that is both octave up and down and is just what I was looking for. Being a "Micro" POG it takes up less room on the board ( nice) , has just a few controls ( easy to set up), has its own non standard 9.6 VDC wall wart power adapter included. This is probably not a type of effect that you will use all the time and when you do switch it on I personally use it sparingly to thicken my sound. I use this with lots of dry ( original signal ) dialed in with both small helpings of octave up and down. It plays nicely with other pedals ( like the MXR stereo chorus ) and I have it placed on the board after the MXR-compressor and prior to the Fulltone OCD ( all are really nice pedals too). You can set it to dial in an octave up 12 string guitar or like a harpsichord type sound. The octave down alone sound, I personally do not prefer and not why I bought it but you can do that too. I am still experimetning with all this pedal can do so give it some time after you buy it to get use it and how it can enhance your sound. The only downside it is more pricey than other pedals and why I rated the value slightly lower (4.5). Hope this helps you

Comments about Electro-Harmonix XO Micro POG Polyphonic Octave Generator Guitar Effects Pedal:

There are plenty of demos out there that show you what can be achieved. But just know that If you want a 12 string guitar, get a 12 string guitar. If you want a Bass tone, get a bass. This will get you in the ball park, but isn't the same thing. That being said, The POG is a great creative tool. It adds interesting character to your music. Whether is just a little bit, or full saturation, this little guy can inspire alot of cool riffs. For my tastes, I prefer using it with single notes and rakes. It works well on the clean signal, but it really rocks when you combine it with a good Overdrive or add some grit to the signal. It has some decent Organ like sounds that can create some cool pads and textures. It also works really well with a Chorus, or Flanger behind it. Its another flavor to add to your musical pallate. It's not for everyone, but alot of big groups use a similar effect in their music now days. You may already be familiar with it, but not know it.

Comments about Electro-Harmonix XO Micro POG Polyphonic Octave Generator Guitar Effects Pedal:

This thing is awesome. I use it on bass and don't know what it's like on guitar but it gives me a good sub octave (just be careful not to get it lost in the mix with over powering bass in the tone). The octave up has a very unique sound (but to be fair not everyone is going to like it so listen to it in a video first) which I think is really cool. The pedal tracks extremely well but the sub octave is a bit quiter than the dry signal when getting down low to the A note on your E string and lower than that. You'll have to pay a pretty penny for this thing but you'll quickly forget what you paid when overwhelmed by the world of sounds (and good sounds at that) this thing has. I don't think there's an octave pedal out there with tracking as good as this thing and the octave up is an awesome bonus. Good buy.

Comments about Electro-Harmonix XO Micro POG Polyphonic Octave Generator Guitar Effects Pedal:

The micro pog is great if you want a combination of dry, octave up, and octave down. You can't get only octave down, though. So no bass sounds, but great 12 string sounds, and heavy octave down AND dry sounds.

Comments about Electro-Harmonix XO Micro POG Polyphonic Octave Generator Guitar Effects Pedal:

I am a active musician and i have been using the POG for about a year, this pedal has it all. You can get great bass sounds, 12 string sounds, etc. While the price may throw a few people i found this pedal to work great whenever i needed a 12 string or another bass.

Comments about Electro-Harmonix XO Micro POG Polyphonic Octave Generator Guitar Effects Pedal:

Many years ago, I had bought a MXR "Blue Box" with high hopes. But that purchase turned out to be a disaster, as the sound was difficult to manage, plus it was really noisy device. Major disappointment since MXR makes some other great stuff.

Needless to say, I kind of got turned off of the idea of buying an octaver....until recently.....

Decided on this one. No regrets whatsoever. Sounds great, and easy to control.

Been using it on Ukulele, which gives it kind of a "harp" sounding effect. Also using it on a mono 70s analog synth, which gives it a lot more body on lead lines.

Unless you intend to play single notes through this unit, and do not have to "adjust on the fly", you might be OK. But I wanted more and had expected a little bit more that this produced, so I returned it. I would also remind others that there is no true bypass built into this unit.

Comments about Electro-Harmonix XO Micro POG Polyphonic Octave Generator Guitar Effects Pedal:

I think that the unit is a little pricey and I wish it was true-bypass, but I think that overall it is a great pedal.
Doesn't have as many bells and whistles as the full version but does exactly what I wanted and has a suprisingly diverse range of sounds. (I actually purchased the full version at GC but returned it after a few days as it was more complicated than I needed.) I mostly use it for creating ambient pads and for thickening up lead sounds in conjunction with a fuzz.
Very well built, typical of most EHX products.
I think the unit is a little pricey for what it does, but is now an essential part of my rig/sound.

Tracks the low B on a 5-string bass, set to an octave higher, PERFECTLY. If you're in a one guitar band, and you use effects on the bass, there is no reason you should not own this pedal.
