OVERVIEW

Experience legendary 5150III, now loaded with a quartet of EL34 power tubes.

Experience classic EL34 tone—the sound that helped power Eddie Van Halen’s groundbreaking work on his earliest Van Halen albums—and lethal looks in the ferocious new EVH 5150IIIS EL34. The EL34 power tubes deliver smoother contours, and greater sag and saturation that evoke a more modern “British” sound, all with more sustain and versatility than ever before. Channel one boasts an even finer clear-and-compressed clean tone, while channels two and three now possess even more compression and saturation. Other features include a rear-panel Resonance control section that tailors low-frequency response for each channel and a bias testing and adjustment port that allows you to fine-tune the tubes with more ease than ever. Wrapped in an elegant gold and black EVH motif, the 5150IIIS EL34 allows you to experience classic EVH EL34 tone.

Comments about EVH 5150IIIS 100S EL34 100W Tube Guitar Head:

I have been a huge EVH fans forever. Owned real vintage plexis, and every EVH head ever made. This head really delivers. The crunch and lead channels are massive. But when you dial back the gain, you can get a great modded Marshall tone. The clean channel is what sets this amp apart from the rest. It is a pristine "Fender" type of clean with a lot of headroom. Crank the gain and you do get some dirt, but this channel, unlike the other EVH clean channels, really has the perfect balance of sparkle and depth. It is very different from the cleans of the standard EVH 50/100 watt and Stealth heads. In fact, it probably has the best cleans of any 3 channel amp out there. Even better than my Bogner XTC 20th anniversary, and that is saying a lot! This amp is the total package, from the most pristine cleans to the most roaring and thunderous distortion. What else to you need? Plus it looks cool. The black and gold really works well. This head must be played through the EVH cab for the full experience.

Comments about EVH 5150IIIS 100S EL34 100W Tube Guitar Head:

This is my first review of a piece of gear but I had to do it! First I have owned more tube amps than almost anyone I know. I owned a Marshall Jubillee, Marshall YJM (Yngwie head), Marshall DSL, Marshall JVM, Marshall Slash Appetite (5 watt), Mesa Mark 2 C, 5150 Peavey, 6505 plus, Engl Powerball, Ampeg Vh-140 C, Peavey Triple XXX, Fractal Axe FX 2. ADA mp1 preamp. and the rare but famous Cameron CCV, two months ago I bought what was my all time favorite metal amp which is the Engl Savage 120. Yesterday I purchased The EVH EL34 based on demos I heard and great deal I got. In the store It sounded great but It was not until I took it to band practice that I realized I was playing Eddie Van Halen's amp because I never played a amp that was this clear and the notes jumped out into the mix without being louders than ,my band members. My other guitarist has a JVM Satriani. Everyone said that the EVH EL 34 cut through better on leads than the Savage but they believed they were tied in terms of rhythm tones. The EVH el34 amp has an amazing clean sound. I only got it as a back up and to have something that could do 80s rock or metal. It is now my main amp. I am not sure with an EQ if I can get the Savage to cut through like this beast . This was the next level. I have been playing rock, metal since 1980. I have opened shows for the big boys. If you are SERIOUS about your tone and want to go in the studio or play on stage as a rock or metal lead guitarist you need to get this amp! While this gets a lot of the tone of the 80s metal bands it is a modern amp and it does have the dynamics of another equally great amp (The Friedman HBE which really nails the Van Halen I tone) I am in a power metal bands so this amp fits the bill. Do not wait buy it!

      Great Amp!

Comments about EVH 5150IIIS 100S EL34 100W Tube Guitar Head:

This amp is definitively different than the other 5150 versions. I think it is a combination between a re-worked circuit and the EL34's. I did own the 50w 6L6's and ended up selling after a little while. All 6L6's amps I ever owned sounded great at first, but after a little while I was always missing that sparkle that only EL34's have. One thing that stood out for me about this amp were the controls. They all are very usable and they increase/decrease by small increments. So, it's easier to find a sweet spot. Another thing is the clean channel. It's extremely clean and fat and due to the EL34's it has that great sparkle that I love so much. Also, the three channels are all usable, which many 3 amp channels that I came across, only one or two channels are usable. For a non-boutique amp, I think this is the BEST amp out there. I do own other amps and this is definitively a keeper. It's hard to compare to other amps because this one has a unique feel to it. It reminds me the very first original Peavey 5150 but with EL34's and a better circuit. This amp is suited for 80's metal and 70's hard rock. If you play modern stuff (90's and beyond) I think you would be better off with the 6L6's version or even a Mesa Boogie type of amp.

Comments about EVH 5150IIIS 100S EL34 100W Tube Guitar Head:

This amp is really an improvement from the other iterations. I did own a 5150 III 50W with 6L6's but ended up selling it. I think the EL34's made a huge different in the sound. Also, I think the distortion is thicker than the previous versions. This amp reminds me the very first and original 5150 made by Peavey but with EL34's and definitively improvement in the tone compared to the original Peavey. I loved this amp. I do own other amps but this one sounds different and I love it! It will definitively get you all the 80's metal. But what I was actually really impressed about this amp was that ALL the controls are very usable and they increase at small increments as opposed to other brands that the controls are not very usable or they change radically by a small touch on them.
