Comments about Friedman Brown Eye Overdrive Pedal:

I have no idea how Friedman was able to cram such an amazing sound out of a pedal, but wow. I own a Friedman Phil X head for comparison, and while this pedal is in no way going to replace it, I have to say that it does give the amp a decent run for the money, as far as sound and feel goes. I've been looking all over for a pedal (and combinations of pedals) to get me close to the BE type sound I get from my amp for sessions and small gigs where I don't want to bring my gear. This is definitely getting me scary close to it. I have been using a Bogner Blue to get me close to that sound up until now (which is also an amazing pedal and is still on my pedalboard) but this definitely captures the feel and sound I have been looking for.

Don't expect to get the huge thump of a 100w tube amp going through a 4x12 out of your Blues Jr., but do expect to get a killer high-gain sound with amazing touch sensitivity and clarity, that cleans up almost as well as the real deal. The sound and feel is definitely there, as is the gain. The stock setting on the pedal has even more gain than my amp! I have the gain set at 10:00, and it is plenty for what I do. Very fluid, but still tight with lots of sustain. It is definitely in the top tier of "amp in a box" pedals available, and truly one of the best I've played through in 30+ years.

Comments about Friedman Brown Eye Overdrive Pedal:

What a beautiful pedal. It replaced a very good xotic XL drive that had replaced an analogman vintage tube screamer on my board. It sounds better than a vintage Marshall super lead head that I own.I gig with a Suhr Badger 30 anjd vintage deluxe reverb and this pedal means business. It took couple of gigs for me to fine tune it to cut through a pretty loud mix and the placement of it before or after a keeley compressor corrected that issue.(I prefer it after the compressor)I appreciated the great reviews form my brother musicians for steering me to this gem.You can get Angus type crunch with it.I did turn the internal gain to a sweet spot between 9:15 and 10:00 per fellow reviewer recommendation.. You can further dial in a sweet spot by backing off your guitar volume. It sound stellar with both single coils and humbuckers. One last thing,my best bud a fellow pro and 50+ year player ABd with the xotic that he also used and immediately sold the xotic and ordered one.

Comments about Friedman Brown Eye Overdrive Pedal:

A bit disappointed after reading all the hype. Certainly is a powerful peda but even at 1/3 gain, hissing noise takes away from hearing clean articulate notes.

        Not really an Overdrive Pedal

Comments about Friedman Brown Eye Overdrive Pedal:

The distortion on this pedal is WAY WAY over the top. I was not able to dial in a nice organic tone. i am a player that grew up on Van Halen and such, so I like gain, but this is way out there. The pedal is marketed as an Overdrive but this is defintely a distortion pedal. Seems that is also severely squishes the signal when gain is up.

Comments about Friedman Brown Eye Overdrive Pedal:

Kickin' pedal! Tone is superb. Attack and gain are brutal. The only downfall is the lack of the power supply that should be included. The pedal has no alternate method of power, just the plug. I would pay the extra coin. These are gonna sell like hot cakes!

This pedal is one that will be sought after for many years. Power supply should be sold with it. The power supply wasn't easily tracked down either. But all in all its s great pedal!

Comments about Friedman Brown Eye Overdrive Pedal:

best distortion/overdrive I've ever used. It sounds like what a digital modeled amp should sound like,..but it's analog?? I'm not sure...sounds organic,...more gain than you'll ever need, makes my old soldano slo pedal seem like a noisy piece of junk...truly awesome...I might get another one so I have an emergency spare...

Comments about Friedman Brown Eye Overdrive Pedal:

I own a Friedman amp, so I'm biased in that I love Friedman tones. That said, this pedal offers a a wide variety of tones and gain... all of which sound terrific. I can't seem to get a bad sound out of this pedal, so yeah, it's very versatile covering everything from classic crunch to modern metal. I usually use an overdrive to tighten up a high gain amp, and this pedal will do that (it even has a "tighten" knob!), but it does so much more. It's really an overdrive AND a distortion pedal, and that's what I'm going to use it for. Those gigs where the back line amp has flabby, tired gain, I can just run the amp clean with the Friedman pedal in front of it for all the great sounding gain I need. It's not the best overdrive pedal I've heard, but it's definitely the best distortion pedal I've ever played.

The only negative being that the range on the gain knob is limited. From zero to full on is still subtle. One has to open the pedal case (4 screws) to get to the gain pot to make significant changes. I may end up cutting a hole in the case to get to easier. I find myself adjusting it depending if I want to use it as an overdrive or a distortion pedal. Maybe the next version will have an external adjustment like that.

Overall, great pedal that I would suggest everyone to check out.
