OVERVIEW

Quality tube sound with exclusive circuitry to help you take your sound to higher levels.

Kustom's Defender V30 is an EL-34 or 6L6-powered, 50W tube combo amp that provides an intoxicating blend of smoking tones and special, boutique-style features. One element that gives the V30 its special tone is an exclusive preamp called Duo-Mod. This proprietary Kustom circuit utilizes traditional Volume and Master Volume controls, but that' where the similarity ends. When turning the Volume control down to get cleaner tones, the Duo-Mod circuit progressively reduces gain in multiple locations throughout the preamp, unlike competitive amplifiers. The result is stunning clarity throughout the Gain control' entire range. In other words, clean tones get cleaner and medium-gain tones stay chunkier and dynamic, while not sacrificing their higher-gain potential.

In the medium-to-high gain ranges, the Kustom Duo-Mod circuit progressively adds gain in multiple locations throughout the preamp. The result is smoking hot rock tones with punch and clarity that set it apart from the competition. In essence, the Kustom Duo-Mod circuit produces a wide variety of tones from a deceptively simple one-channel amplifier without the need for additional gain switches or controls.

Another great aspect of the Defender V30 is that its Master Volume doesn™t merely control the overall amplifier level. It also optimizes the amp' overall EQ to produce perfectly tweaked tonal results no matter how the input Volume and Master Volume controls are set. For example, when the input Volume is cranked for distortion and the Master is set lower, the amp' midrange and high-end are adjusted to eliminate any harshness. This system lets you make large changes in gain settings with minimal adjustments of tone controls.

For added flexibility, there is also a Master Volume Bypass switch, which allows you to entirely disable the Master from the circuit to achieve the penetrating tone and headroom of vintage, non-Master type amplifiers. It' perfect if you like to use outboard overdrive and distortion boxes to spice up your sound. For even more power amp gain, a variable Power Amp Boost control provides up to 10dB of footswitchable volume that is perfect for making guitar solos stand out in the mix.

Other features include two EL34 output tubes, three 12AX7 preamp tubes, a 12-inch Celestion speaker and a Bright switch that provides either a fuller, American-style bass response or a tighter, British flavored low end. A player' preference of either EL34 or 6L6 power tubes may be used in the Defender, thanks to a switch which adjusts the amp' bias circuitry accordingly “ perfect for guitarists who like to experiment with their tonal options.

A classic spring reverb circuit provides everything from a warm, ambient effect to an all-out cavernous wash of sound.

This amp plays extremely well! I've been playing for 9 years, have owned 5 different amps and this one outplays them all!!!!! I am fairly new to owning tube amps but have been around quite a few and even fresh out of the box this thing purrs. It sucks that there aren't that many reviews of this online, it kicks Fender amps of this sizes butt!!! I purchased two so I could get one for a friend at the time to save on shipping and I almost don't want to give the second one away, not to mention how awesome it is that it can work as a amp head for a 4x12 or with the 12" celestion and an external cab. How amazing!!!!! Anyways, great amp, worth much more than it costs. This company that has been around for how may years still has it!

Received it, played for a few minutes, and then it conked out. Sound became very weak and distorted. When I received it, it seemed as if the product was used before. The package seemed like it was repackaged. Asked for a replacement, but was told by MF that the product is discontinued. MF could not give an alternate product. MF was willing to give a refund.

Comments about Kustom Defender V30 1x12 50W Tube Guitar Combo:

I got mine yesterday and usually play Marshalls. This amp will surprise you. It is built well, looks good, has a `12" Celestion, and has a great sound! It is a very usable amp unlike Crate, Peavey, Carvin tube amps, etc. Single channel with a variable boost - thru footswitch. Grab one if you can! I want another to A/B clean & dirty..

Comments about Kustom Defender V30 1x12 50W Tube Guitar Combo:

I got this amp as part of one of MF's Stupid Deals, discounting it from its normal[$] price tag down to [$]. Crazy good steal at that price, but I would not be buying it at [$] that's for sure. Sure, it's a very well made vintage tube amp that runs clean to crunch absolutely superbly, it has a great spring reverb and a few tiny bells and whistles I'm not sure if I'd ever use, and that's about it. I could easily see it being used in a professional rig where if I wanted a different sound I'd have a separate dedicated amp to do so, seeing as this amp has some of the best cleans I've heard anywhere, hands down. That being said, this was my second amp that I could use for gigs, my last one being a Line 6 Spider III 75 watt combo. This blows the Line 6 out of the water in terms of clean and crunch tones, which were the Line 6's strong points. But in terms of functionality during a gig, the Line 6 wins every time, because the Kustom is, by design, a one channel amp. It is a set up your tone and play type of amp, there's no saving presets, no switching channels, the only way to switch between a clean and overdrive sound quickly is by using the guitar's volume knob, which could be used, but is not as easy as stomping on a pedal and boom, new sound. I'm keeping this amp because for the purposes it's built for, it absolutely excels and is the best sounding amp I've ever played when dialed in and cranked. On the other hand though, I play everything from Acoustic Bluegrass to Deathcore, and this amp simply can't do every single tone in the world, something the Line 6 is kinda built for. If you know what you're looking for, you probably would've already bought this amp and would've never read this, but for the sake of those who don't, it's a boutique amp, a great quality, ONE CHANNEL, boutique amp, if you don't need that then, there you go.

Comments about Kustom Defender V30 1x12 50W Tube Guitar Combo:

This thing has some amazing clean tone. The master volume circuit is okay, but it really shines when you switch the master bypass on. Just pure clean tone, unless you really crank the volume. The headroom is really immense.

The impedence switching is nice so that you can run an extension cab and the internal speaker at the same time.

The only downside is the reverb. It seems to take too long to decay and has a really long tail. Even just to 9 o'clock it really detracts from the great sound this amp is capable of.

I would have willingly paid 3x what I did for this amp

Comments about Kustom Defender V30 1x12 50W Tube Guitar Combo:

Tried it with EL34 and 6L6GC power tubes, excellent with either.Shipped with EH 12AX7s in all three preamp spots. The Chinese EL34s are a nice tube and I'll keep them. The speaker needs some breaking in, but is a good match for this amp. It's got a LOT of loud cleans and very nice dirt. Darker sounding than some amps, it still doesn't turn to mud.My main complaint is the reverb has a very long and not very pretty tail at any setting. It needs adjusted. The only other complaint I have is that one preamp tube can retainer wont lift off unless you remove the speaker. It's too close.I just removed it completely and left it off. This amp loves pedals. Certainly has enough oomph to gig with. Clean or dirty. The controls all work nicely, the features do offer versatility. The build is nice, it's very solid.Just the addition of another single 12" speaker cabinet would make this very loud indeed.I jammed with it several times, in my music room, and cranked it hard. I modify amplifiers all the time, and I know a little bit about tone. This is a very good amplifier and should have made anyone happy at around 4 to 5 hundred dollars.I know I will tweak it here and there, but overall, it's good right out of the box. Clean country, blues, dirty blues, rock, hard rock, pop.. this will handle all of that easily. Loved my strat, and pure swagger with the les paul.Made me wish I had some p90s around, too.Very nice look. early marshall bluesbreaker style is quite cool with me.

Comments about Kustom Defender V30 1x12 50W Tube Guitar Combo:

I got this amp as part of the Stupid Deal of the Day, for [$]. Normally [$]. What a steal. This thing is a killer-sounding amp! I plugged it in as soon as it got here, and I let it warm up for 3-5 minutes. I've had it on ever since. It was a bit brittle sounding at first due to brand new tubes and a brand new speaker... but its starting to wear in a bit and I can tell this will be a real player within a week or so! It has the XLR Direct out, Two speaker outputs for an extension and external if you want to run it as a head only as well, and has adjustable 4,8, and 16 ohms. It has a Celestion Seventy 80 Speaker in it, and it suits this amp fairly well! I want to get it a 4x12 cab with V30s to really make it sound huge. But by itself it gets loud and can stand it's own! For a gig, you may want something to put it on like a stand, or a cab to run it through since its a 1x12.. you'll lose some hearing capability due to how low to the ground it'll be from you. But if you don't care to hear yourself a TON, it does just fine on its own.

        O k ,
Here's are some tips to make your Defender V30 sound GREAT.
I purchased this Kustom V30 from MF. It sounded pretty good for starters. I knew with some
tweaking I could get this amp to sound real good.
First I changed the Celestion 70/Eighty Speaker to a Celestion Vintage 30 (Big Difference)The Celestion Vintage 30 completely gave the amp sweet rich tones .
next I changed the stock 12ax7 Tubes to 12 AX7 Groove Tubes (Russian)
Then I changed the EL 34 stock tubes to EL 34 Groove Tubes Gold Series (WOW) Now my V30 sounds GREAT.
I did some test before changing all tubes .
The biggest difference was changing the Pre amp tubes.

Comments about Kustom Defender V30 1x12 50W Tube Guitar Combo:

Ok, this is a followup to my first review. I used the v30 at a gig. It is powerful and clear. I thought about how it sounded after I played through the amp and I reminds me a LOT of how it felt the first time I played through a 100 watt Marshall in a friends basement a long time ago. That is with the master volume bypassed AND taking some time with the tone controls. Pedals work great with this amp. The only place I see these amps for sale is on [@]. Probably they bought them here on [@] and are trying to sell them for profit. They should wise up and keep them, I pity the fools.

Comments about Kustom Defender V30 1x12 50W Tube Guitar Combo:

I really wasn't looking for another amp. But, it was the stupid deal of the day, so now I have one. I haven't been too impressed with the amps overdrive but, cut out the master switch it's pretty cool on the clean sound. The tone controls are very touchy because as they increase for instance the treble it also at the same time decreases mid and low. But it's really able to get some nice tone, especially with my 335. The reverb is big and trails kinda long, but it's good. Really good looking amp. Too bad it's not tuck and roll, they should issue some that look like the old ones with these amps in them. Can't wait to try it out this evening.

What the Fukushima! It's a TUBE amp for only [$]. After fooling with it for an an hour or so, I found most sounds unusable. Distorted tone is horrible. BUT, there were a few decent clean tones. DO NOT ever put the treble all the way up, since the tone is ghastly. With proper balancing of various selectors, it was not too bad for some cleans. As good as any Fender of the same price. I have owned all kinds of Fenders, Mesa Boogie, Peavey, Marshall, etc. Delta Blues is my overall favorite amp, but this is good for certain clean uses, even Jazz.
