I went to a friends house last night, and was impressed to see he had a Line 6 amp. I've always heard good things about this amp, but when I plugged into it, the things I had heard didn't even do justice to the amazing sound this thing produces. It has screaming hot effects, the Crunch, blues, twang, Metal, Clean and Insane are all beautiful sounding as well as versitle. I will be honest when I say, I've been a Marshall guy for years and years. Not anymore. I love my marshall, but the distortion is so scratchy sounding. Makes for horrible recordings. My band mate has a Marshall AVT150 HX and even it isn't anywhere near as awesome sounding as the line 6. The Metal Setting has that crushing sound that guitar players world wide love, and those lows that seem to beat your chest in. I never cranked it up past 3/4 full volume, and I know I was drowning out a Yamaha drum set. The entire time I had the volume cranked up, It never lost any audio quality. As I walked away my left ear was ringing and deafend a bit, if that tells you about how loud it is. I am truly amazed by the incredible sounds this thing produces. So much so I ordered the 75w version just a few minutes ago. Hands down buy this amp if you're looking for a truly incredible sound.

I got this head and Line 6 cab used for a really good price so i can't complain about that. It has a ton of features but after hours of knob turning I couldn't get any of the built in amp mods (distortions) to sound useable. I am a big-time tweaker so I know it's not me. The distortions are just too muddy or tinny at high volume. However, I found that the best way to use this amp is to set every channel to Red Clean. I have the FBV Express pedal so I use channel 1 as totally clean, then add reverb, and different delays to the the other 3 channels to color the sounds accordingly. I use a ZOOM GFX-8 pedal in front of the whole rig for different distortions and it makes a world of difference. Using external distortion gives you the ability to turn the master volume up beyond 4 without making the whole rig sound like it's buried under a hay stack.

    Line 6 Spider 2

Only a few of the amp models sound okay. The red and green blues models sound the best, and the red clean channel is okay. I use a Fender American Stratocaster and a few pedals with the Spider 2. If you use one or two overdrive or distortion pedals with the drive turned down on these channels, you can get okay sound out of this amp.

    Amazing Amp

I bought this cause I needed a cheap head with some good effects, so I didn't have to buy pedals. But once I started playing it, I loved the thing. I can get all the tones I need for all my songs with the different channels and the effects are all I need. I love the thing. I'd also recommend getting the FBV Shortboard to go with it.

    techno metal?

    By Scuba

Got a good deal on the spider II head and played it through my Marshall cab and the clean channel is great. Good job on all the effects and it's great having 4 channels. The distortion channels sound fake/digital with no sustain and sounds no different with different guitars. If you are into KMFDM and Ramstein or any kind of techno metal this amp head IS for you. If you play all clean channel or country twang this amp could be for you too. It's great for a back up head but I'll never use it live or record with it!

    Spider II HD

What a great amp this is. It has everything to keep the musician content for a long time. Everything: The Clean, the Twang, The Crunch, The Metal, and the Insane, are all amazingly great. The only problem is that it is extremely deep. Sticking in a good stomp box, or a guitar with hot pickups helps eliminate this problem.

Ive had this amp head for about a year. It was used when i bought it but just a litle. it has all the effects on it that you will ever need and all the channels sound great. BUT the metal channel didn't have the sustain I needed. The insane channel has alot of distortion and sustain but it's not that great at REAL lows like drop C tuning. At loud volumes it's hard to keep it quiet. It's more of a practice amp.

i bought this amp 2 months ago and since then i really stopped playing guitar because it sounds like crap. on the crunch setting there is way to much bass even when the bass is set at 0. and a lot of buzzing in the distortion. the distortion doesnt even sound good. i like chugs and stuff this has a snap to it when you palm your guitar. i am disappointed in the amp.

    Ambivalent

I've played through and heard many line 6 amps... they're good for the price. I like the clean sounds. It's not quite a tube, but for the price it's good. The effects are nice too. However, I can't stand the distortion. It sounds like 'fuzz'. awful. crap. The different amp models all sound like different amounts of distortion. I love the vox valvetronix sound. the amp models are lightyears beyond the line 6 models. seriously, it's not even a competition. What makes this somewhat appealing to me is the 150 watts of power for such a great price. that's unbeatable. I would rather buy the vox valvetronix head. However, a 100 watt is twice as much, and a 120 watt (better model) is three times.if you're on a tiiight budget, go for it. Not the best choice though.

    spyder II

i bought this amp with a B-52 cab and it sounds great! i mainly got this amp because i needed somthing fairly loud and cheap. i was happy to find out it sounded great, but it could be louder for a 150 watt. the distortion on this amp is vary good considering the cheap price. the effects are good, the cleans are clean, and there is little fuzz. i am vary happy with this amp, and any one low on money should buy this. best for the price! better than crate, randel, and behringer
