OVERVIEW

Go solid state or tube with ample power.

The Markbass Little Mark Tube 800 bass amp head solves the "tube or solid state" dilemma. But it goes a step further by addressing that other perennial concern, "Will I have enough power?" The 800 watts from this powerful bass amp will satisfy any thirst for power, and the two bendable preamps give you the warmth and richness of a tube preamp, the clean attack of a solid state preamp, or a mix of both. The Markbass head features a mix control for mixing between solid state and tube. The result offers a range of sounds, from the crisp sound in the solid state, to a full, heavy tube sound in the tube state, as well as anything in between. On the front panel there are two inputs with separate gain controls: one 1/4" jack, and one combo jack that accepts either an XLR or 1/4". The Vintage Loudspeaker Emulator (VLE) and Variable Preshape Filter (VPF) allow access to a wide array of timbres, from classic tones to modern hi-fi sound. The Little Mark Tube 800's phantom power switch accompanies the XLR input, for using a microphone on a double bass. Mute control is as simple as a push and a pull on the master volume switch. Additional features include four bands of equalization, line out control, and pre-post EQ switch for the XLR out (on the rear panel). Markbass Little Mark amps and combos are manufactured to be sold and used in the country of purchase, and they are factory preset to that country's voltage. Due to homologation issues, the voltage may not be changed. Rack ears not included. The head features a single 6205 miniature tube.

I purchased this bass head because of the added power you get with the 800watts, its compact size and its low weight. I play in a loud rock band, think Marshall 4/12s and big drums and this head is powerful enough to keep up no problem. I use two 15" Eminence Kappa Pro drivers in two Lopo cabs and can turn up about half way before I start to drown out the other guitars. I think 500watts would be enough for most situations but the 800watts really gives you head room. As far as tone goes this head sounds wonderful, clear with a lot of punch. Set your eq's at 12 o'clock and use the VLE and VPF to set your desired tone. After your satisfied with your tone, you have all those nice eq knobs to fine tune your sound. This is a solid state head, so don't let the little tube graphic on the face plate fool ya. However there is a "sweet spot" you can find with the second gain and solid/tube blend knob that can add a little sizzle to your sound. I gave it a 4.5 on features because you only have one speakon out. Other than that its packed with usable features like an effects loop, tuner out, post/pre line out, and a XLR input with phantom power. On the "quality" side its built solid and the inputs, outputs and buttons feel sturdy. I gave it a 4.5 on "value" because I think anything new is priced at least $100 more than it should be. However I was willing to pay for the extra wattage. One thing for sure, as far as size and weight go it cant be beat. I'm able carry it in a small padded bag over my shoulder and I never have that dreaded feeling of seeing a giant flight of stairs. Overall the Markbass Little Mark Tube 800 was an excellent choice for me. It has plenty of power while not weighing much and has tons of tone with nice input/output features. Most people will go with one of the one of there lower wattage models, and that in its self is an excellent choice. But, if you need some head room and don't mind paying for it........ here ya go.

Awesome Sounding, Powerful, Lightweight, Quality Bass Amp! I knew it would be light, but the biggest surprise for me was how exceptional and clear it's tone is with a variety of bass guitars, loud too. Love the tube pre-amp. Using it with a GK Neo 410 front ported cab, a fantastic sounding combination.

Comments about Markbass Little Mark Tube 800 Bass Amp Head:

I bought this amp and 2 Mark Bass cabs; the Traveller 1x15 and Traveller 2x10. I like this amp head a lot. Indeed, it is not an full on tube bass amp, but the tube it does have inside of it makes a difference. The power and tone, ease in transport, and versatility of the head and cabs is fantastic. I can run either cab or both together, and it has an XLR out with an output level control! That is a great feature and sound guys love it.

I bought rack ears for this (from MF) and in my opinion they were slightly overpriced just for 2 bent pieces of steel with holes in them, BUT the amp now sits protected in a rack I have with an EQ and power strip. I used to have it in a bag and I'd have to hook everything up for each gig and it was getting scratched from transport. Now it's safe and I just plug and play.

I play an (active) Ernie Ball Music Man Sterling 5 string bass. I agree that the mute push/pull is not great on the amp but I just turn the volume pot all the way down on my bass between sets. I use a basic, digital chromatic tuner plugged from the tuner out of the amp and it works fine.

When I first got the amp, before using a rack-mount EQ, I had a Hartke pre-amp pedal because I felt like the amp was a little dull sounding. That pedal broke from gigging so now I use an EQ which basically does the same thing. I haven't experimented with the tube/S.S. blend so I just keep it in the middle. I barely have the Variable Preshape Filter or Vintage Loudspeaker Emulator engaged; I have both knobs halfway around the 1st hash mark and it makes it sound slightly "old school" which I like. I prefer the low rumble of a 5 string but for other players that prefer a more melodic sound I can see those tone shapers being beneficial. I found a tone I like but there are many options and this amp is great for any style, especially slapping.

I have heard nothing but praise for Mark Bass and after 2 summers gigging with it I am extremely happy with the way this amp has never once had a problem. It has been put the test in hot, humid, salt-air environments for long periods of time. Once the speakers in the cabs got broken in the tone got even more fantastic. Plus, if that tube in the amp goes bad you are still left with a great-sounding solid state...yet another feature!

Comments about Markbass Little Mark Tube 800 Bass Amp Head:

I prefer Markbass over Ampeg, GK, and Genz Benz. I found ampeg and GK and GB, had a hiss or white noise problem. This Markbass head and my Lakland 4401 and my Furman power conditioner almost zero noise. I think the Mark bass tube800 is a true 800 watts. I had a carvin bx500 and a Genz shuttlemax 9.2 both seemed under powered compared to this head. On the Genz I had to push the filter buttons to get the full sound I needed. With the Markbass its right there no fuss. I loved my Markbass LM3, I sold it and got the LM tube800 which is even better.

Comments about Markbass Little Mark Tube 800 Bass Amp Head:

This little amp packs a powerful punch. The tone is great and offers a large variety of voicing. I play very large venues and have a lot of room left on the master volume. The one complaint I do have is that the mute switch is in the Push/pull master volume. I have a tendency to change my volume setting accidentally when using the mute. This will not be a concern if you use a tuner that acts as a mute when activated. This compliant is of little consequence when compared to the vast benefits this amp offers. I own Ampeg and Genz-Benz amps and this is my new favorite.
