Comments about Marshall 2551AV Silver Jubilee 240W 4x12 Angled Guitar Speaker Cabinet:

I purchased this cabinet about a year ago through MF's sister company, around the same time that I purchased the matching 2555X head. The cab ships stock with Marshall/Celestion co-branded Vintage 30s and they are OEM U.K.-made speakers. They are not your retail/boxed Made in China Celestion Vintage 30s. I visually verified this myself by taking the back panel off. If you dislike the mid range tonality of a Vintage 30, look elsewhere. But if you like it, it's here in spades. The cab is constructed of plywood and the look of the silver Tolex is quite sharp. 16 ohm and 4 ohm mono connections, and also 8 ohm stereo connections. The cab is slightly larger and weighs more than your typical 1960A / 1960B models.

My only complaint is the poor packaging from the factory. I had to return the first two I purchased due to nicks in the Tolex, which was a complete headache to deal with. Perhaps they changed things since I got mine, but it was literally, without exaggeration, Tolex-on-cardboard. No protective materials, no plastic covering, NOTHING. This was not a matter of customer returns being resold either. They were factory sealed. Just think of shipping those from the U.K. to the U.S., then from the warehouse to you. Lots of opportunity for the cab to get knocked around. The only reason the third one arrived unscathed is because the staff where I made the purchased hunted down a contact from the warehouse to explain to them what was going on with the poor (and inexcusable) Marshall packaging. Thankfully they then double-boxed the shipment and all was made right.

Play it loud and play it hard to break in those sweet, sweet speakers.

Comments about Marshall 2551AV Silver Jubilee 240W 4x12 Angled Guitar Speaker Cabinet:

I bought the A and B cabs for my 2555X.

First, there is some conflicting information. The cab comes with Marshall G12 Vintage speakers. These are rated at 70W, manufactured in the UK, and specified by Marshall. This cab does not come with Vintage 30s. I've seen that in print and mentioned by sales and marketing. The G12 Vintage mmmaaayyy(?) have been based on an older V30, but it does not sound like a modern Vintage 30. For me, that is a good thing. The G12 does not have the V30 "honk". Instead, it's a tight, present speaker with nice lows and high power handling. I only planned on buying one cab, but I was pleasantly surprised by the stock speakers and I decided to keep one cab stock and buy another cab for speaker swapping. There are a few video comparisons on YouTube. The speakers sound quite different from V30s - have a listen for yourself.

I read these SJ cabs are slightly oversized.

If I were making the cabs I would have beefed up the handles and wiring/connections.

Marshall's big fault with these cabs is the minimal packaging they use. Several of my forum buddies bought these cabs and many were damaged in shipping because the packaging is slightly more than a cab in a box.

The B cab I bought was a Scratch & Dent. I suspect that occurred in shipping then was returned and got even more banged up by UPS on the way to me. There was a good amount of damage and several rips in the tolex with minor gouges in the box corresponding to the tolex rips. I bought the cab and saved the online pics of the damage MF provided.

The A/Slant cab I bought arrived in good condition -- with only a minor dent in transit.

Finally, I think the initial asking price of $1300 each is high. I bought both of mine after the 2555X had been blown out and the cabs had been discounted to move.

Considering what I paid, I gave the B cab 3 stars because of the damages from poor packaging (not cool, Marshall) and the A cab which arrived with only one dent 4 stars.
