OVERVIEW

It delivers what the others promise.

The Marshall MF350 Mode Four 350W Head delivers powerful sound and plenty of it. Though many amps claim to produce classic and modern tones, most fall short. The brutal yet toneful 350W hybrid output is just the beginning of the story. With its two-amps-in-one design that employs dual preamps, each with an ECC83 valve, you get totally independent amp configurations. It also completely reconfigures its power amp section depending on which amp type is selected. Both of the amp types have two footswitchable modes, with Amp 1 offering Clean and Crunch modes and Amp 2 delivering two distinct overdrives. Amp 1 is the classic side. When selected, it re-creates the unmistakable sound and feel of Marshall's 100W valve power roar. The Clean mode produces incredibly dynamic, 3-dimensional clean and bluesy crunch. Click into Crunch and unleash the unbridled aggression and bite of the JCM800 Series with levels of gain never conceived of in the '80s. Amp 2 takes over where Amp 1 leaves off with OD2 dishing up more sheer gain than any other Marshall ever while giving you maximum control in shaping your signature sound.

This is one of the most versatile amps I've ever owned. It seems marshall hit the nail on the head with this one.Mode 1: Great for any kind of funky type of Jimi kind of stuff. I use it on songs like Little Wing and Wind Cries Mary.Mode 2: I don't use this one very often but I do use it for punk type stuff and even nirvana type rhythms.Mode 3: Really great for Classic rock like Skynard, Deep purple, Stevie Ray.Mode 4: A really great shred tone without too much noise. Zakk, Slash, Eddie, Vai, Satch, I use this one a lot it sounds really great.Only thing I don't like about it is that this would be the perfect amp if every mode had a separate volume and gain knobs. That would be the greatest amp ever. If marshall made one I'd pay 2 or 3 times as much as I paid for this one. Other than that its a great amp. I use it at every gig and it sounds great.

Comments about Marshall MF350 Mode Four 350W Head:

The MF350 is a hybrid 350 watt head with a tube preamp section and a solid state power section. The wattage is so high that it doesn't have the traditional problems that solid state heads have when turned up awhile still being able to maintain a brutal high gain sound at lower volumes. The bad news is that the head is absolutely enormous and it will be a bit tougher to find a cabinent for this thing. The MF400 cab is the best choice.

The clean channel is about as good as you expect from any high gain amp. It is no Fender. It is primiarly concerned with headroom and being a basis for other preamps and pedals.

The Crunch channel and the OD2 are very similiar to each other. They both have very high gain useful for thrash and modern rock just with slightly different EQ's. It is natural, juicy, saturated, sizzling distortion with a massive bottoem end.. It is the exact opposite of a Boss Metalzone. If you hate that pedal this is the amp for you. The OD2 has slightly more gain than the Crunch, but if you plan on boosting this amp with a pedal it won't make much difference whether you use the crunch or the OD2. For my style of music (black metal), the amp had about 90% of the gain I needed. I still needed to boost it with a pedal. Thxfully, the amp has a very natural sound to it and can be boosted with either overdrives, distortions, or even fuzz's. I choose a transparent fuzz box.

The OD1 is more of a light gain distortion channel. Good for AC DC or Deep Purple kind of tones.

All the channels have a sccop button, but I found them to be a bit overkill so I used a MXR-10 Band EQ to shape the mids instead. Every amp I have every played had wrong sounding mids, so this is only a minor complaint.

The amp has one effects loop with a volume knob. This is typical for an amp in this price range, but if this amp is going to premise itself on versatility it would of been cool if it had multiple effects loops. It also has two emulated outputs (XLR and 1/4").

The amp has a footswitchable solo boost with its own volume knob. It doesn't really add gain. Only volume.

The best guitar to use for this amp is a humbucker equiped guitar with "bright" tone woods. Such as a Charvel, an Ibanez, or a Jackson. It didn't like my Mahogony EMG equiped guitar. The bass was overpowering. Not tight at all.

      Good Amp high price Tag

      By LedHed

Comments about Marshall MF350 Mode Four 350W Head:

Listen if you have the money for this then by all means by this and its signature cabs (either one) but the reason for the low over all value is due to the very high price tag and extreme weight. Very heavy (why do u think guys who play stacks are always jacked) however that being said this is an extremely versatile amp because I play in a band based on all the greats (page,Vai,Malmsteen,Hendrix,Joe Walsh, eddie of course) so I need to go from sweet blues to screaming fingerboard burning and back. Like a jcm, jmp, and jtm maybe even a little fender (check out the deville).

Comments about Marshall MF350 Mode Four 350W Head:

I bought this head about a month ago and love it. It DOES take some time tweaking it and, like all-tube amps, its sound at high-vol can be different than at bedroom level. But, once you get your sound dialed in (that is, your sound from FOUR different channels all with footswitch control, including Reverb and Solo) it is outstanding! MARSHALL says they copied the tone on Channel 1 from their JCM800 with this thing - and they don't lie. The thing is EXTREMELY light for such a large and powerful head. You'll see negative reviews from people who don't OWN it - they just tested it out for a few minutes...that usually won't do it with this thing, it just has too many variations and you can make anything sound crappy with a bad setting in a store. MARSHALL loves this amp, I love this amp, Mode4 owners love this amp (tell the 'all tube' snobs it all tubes and they wouldn't notice the difference (except that Channel 2/OD2 has more distortion and full-bodied tone than they'll ever get) - I don't care what they say.

Comments about Marshall MF350 Mode Four 350W Head:

I have owned my Mode Four head and MF 400 cab for over 2 years now and I am still very pleased with the purchase. It does take a while to dial this head in though. I use an Ibanez RG1570 with Seymour Duncan Invaders and an ESP Steven Carpenter 7 string with EMGs. Either of them will rip your face off. Highly recommended.

Comments about Marshall MF350 Mode Four 350W Head:

When I got this head home and plugged it in, I was blown away with how much power this amp has. It really delivers where other solid state amps cant and it sounds great at higher volumes. The distortion is over the top and gives alot more spice than any other marshall amp I've ever played. This amp is a great buy for the price that you pay and it deffinately satisfies.

I tried this thing out and instantly fell in love with it. The tone is so full. I sounded just like slayer with this thing. It cranks out, and shreds beautifully. You can really hear your notes. Anynoe who doesn't like it put it on a less tonal setting, because the low end and highs are perfect!

I baught this amp almost a year ago I think or however long it's been out. I must say I am please with it's kick in the balls attidute, however I find it limiting not to have an eq on it. never the less this amp is more than I could imagined. 350watts of pure volume. I can drown out my friends $4000 sound system with just a half stack. just try it and you'll understand.

      Great new amp for Marshall!

Comments about Marshall MF350 Mode Four 350W Head:

Tons of headroom on the Clean Channel(Shimmering, no dist.), and more than enough gain on Channel 2 for anyone. I've been playing for 8 years now, and this defiantly added a huge end to my setup! I also own a Mesa Tri. Rec.,and I feel the MF350 is equall to it! I actually own two of them(MF 350's), I liked it so much! I use one for the cleans, and the other in conjuntion with the Tri. Rec. for my distortion tone! Unbelievable.

The features on this are nuts. The emulated line out is great for recording. Also, having two independent amps - with completely different tones... awesome. The price tag is also the most friendly for how much power and tone you're getting. I can tell you - you buy this head and you're going to own everyone on stage.
