This pedal is one of the most versatile ive ever come across! Im a huge van halen fan and really love 70's and 80's hard rock and heavy metal! This pedal is very useful for solos and lead work! it can give you a very spacious thick phase and then it can give you an almost chorus like effect depending on the settings u choose. The script phase mode is somewhat more laid back than the block logo, but both settings are very useful! This pedal is absolutely perfect for nailing EVH signature effects in the songs "Atomic Punk" "Aint Talkin' bout love" "Jamies Cryin" and any other EVH signature riff. This pedal is also perfect if you are a fan of Zakk wylde!!! Zakk actually uses this pedal on his pedalboard! it can give you very "zakk wylde" like tone if you roll the speed back to around 9 o' clock.
I have recorded songs on a tascam dp-02 portastudio using the phase 90 as a guitar effect and it sounds absolutely pitch perfect when played back! GET THIS PEDAL AND SOUND LIKE EDDIE VAN HALEN AND ZAKK WYLDE!

My wife bought me the EVH Phase 90 for Christmas at a local music store since she knows what a fan I am. I was really excited until I plugged it into my rig. Nothing! The effect could be bypassed, but when you kicked it on, no blue light, no sound, nothing. I took it back to the store, and they had to order me another to replace it. Well, my wife picked it up for me when it came in 3 weeks later. I hooked it up, kicked it on, and the bright blue LED came on. Great......except all that I could hear was just a step above white noise. Nothing but static came out, making it sound more like a bad fuzz than a phaser. So, back to the music store. They had another EVH in the display that came when they ordered my replacement. I tried that one out also, and there was the same problem I had with the first: no sound at all, and the thing wouldn't even come on. So, there's 3 EVH Phase 90s in a row, each fresh out of a factory sealed box, never played in a store, that were all non-functional. This tells me that Dunlop has some quality control issues in the factory that need hammered out. I chose not to re-order another since three was the charm for me and got my refund. This is the most painful part of it all: my wife bought this thing for the smokin' hot price of $58!!!! So, I blew it on strings and cables and decided that I had enough pedals in my board already.

Comments about MXR EVH Eddie Van Halen Phase 90:
There is a little drop in the volume when I switch this unit on. Not sure if that is normal for a Phaser. Had an MXR 90 years ago and don't remember that. Maybe it's just with an acoustic guitar? Haven't hooked it up to an electric rig yet!

Comments about MXR EVH Eddie Van Halen Phase 90:
If you do your MXR homework, you will find that this pedal is the 'Best of Both Worlds.' With the 'script' button out you get the modern (block MXR logo) phasing. With the 'script' button in, you get the classic 'script MXR logo' sound. The 'block' sound is a more enhanced, full-range phase, while the 'script' sound is a more subtle phase.
It's really like two phasers in one.
I really only use this to play early VH, with the script button in and the knob between 9 and 10. It VERY accurately replicates that early VH sound. I also use it to play Paul Gilbert's 'Fuzz Universe' with the knob at about noon.
I found it better to use this pre-amp vs. FX loop as the phasing was VERY IN YOUR FACE and enhanced in the loop. Placed preamp this gives you a nice subtle phase: You know it's on, but it's not overpowering.
I've tried my fair share of phasers and this one really knocks out the competition. Great bang for your buck and a phenomenal sound.!

Comments about MXR EVH Eddie Van Halen Phase 90:
What can I say? Ive been tying to emulate the sound of EVH for years but it never hit me to buy this phaser and it would push me over the top. I think the paint job makes me a better player also... well, maybe just makes me think Im a better player. I like this pedal a lot.
Comments about MXR EVH Eddie Van Halen Phase 90:
See my above comments, spells it out.
Not much to this pedal but you don't need much though a level knob might be usefull. I tried it in my effects loop and it didn't sound quite right for what I wanted (that EVH style phase sound.) So I moved it to in front of my crunch channel and that made all the difference in the world, exactly that Atomic Punk\EVH sound. If you want a more in you face phase sound in the loop would be good, in front of your distortion channel kind of blends it into your sound more. The script switch does change the tonal quality of the phase but it's isn't drastic.
Looks and feels like a rock solid pedal, can't hurt the thing though the LED light is insanely bright.
You are paying extra for a little switch (that does slightly change the tonal quality) and the EVH paint job. Seems excessive but the pedal is good and I've seen many pro's with this exact pedal so I have no complaints on the price.
Comments about MXR EVH Eddie Van Halen Phase 90:
This is definately a MAJOR part of the puzzle in getting the hard to find "brown sound". This pedal is NOT going to make you Eddie Van Halen. It will get you some great tones and improve what you already sound like. I've added a DD3 delay and TS9DX to get some really great classic sounds out of my Peavey Classic 30. In my opinion, it was definately worth the $130.00 and has opened my ears to a whole new pallete of sounds.
How simple is 1 knob and 1 button? I swear the blue LED on/off light could be used to assist in landing airplanes or finding lost boats at sea. The script button allows a little more variety as compared to other phasers. Simplicity at its finest.
The thing is a tank unlike other cheaper brands of pedals and stomp boxes. You could probably throw this thing through a glass window without a scratch but why would you want to do that?
I rated this a 5 simply because of $130.00 cost. Having an expendable budget, I had no issues in considering price. For the average teenage guitar player or someone on a budget, it might be a little too pricey as compared to other phasers. However, you get what you pay for in sound and quality.

Comments about MXR EVH Eddie Van Halen Phase 90:
I bought this pedal base on all thhe rave reviews and I thought I could not go wrong with an EVH product. There is nothing really wrong with the pedal but personally I prefer the sound, price and features of the EHX Small Stone Nano. I am going to keep playing around with this EVH phaser but so far the coolest thing to me is the paint job. The button that is suppose to switch modes tosound like 2 different voices of phasers is really small to me and too subtle. Also, if you do want this pedal then shop around as I paid 90.00 brand new. The Nano stone is like 78.00 anywhere and you may like it better anyway. I just feel like even at 90.00 I paid for the name and paint. Its just OK but not great...hopefully I can find the perfect match to pair it up with and overdrive, distortion or fuzz to bring out what others are talking about.
Comments about MXR EVH Eddie Van Halen Phase 90:
Like any pedal, you've got to move things around each time you add a pedal to your chain. I was marginally pleased with this pedal until I moved it in front of my EH Big Muff, at which point it became an excellent pedal. Now, whether using the Muff, my JCM2000s distortion, or my Traynor Custom 100 watt hi gain (with my EMG 81/85s - or other high gain pick-ups), it works equally well. I like the script button disengaged as the high end is a little more prominent - but that's personal preference. I wish it (and most pedals) cost less.
Comments about MXR EVH Eddie Van Halen Phase 90:
The EVH Phase 90 is essentially two phasers in one: the standard block-logo Phase 90, and the vintage 70's script-logo phaser. With the script button disengaged, the block-logo mode is more resonant and pronounced (great for funk and slower-speed settings). With the script button on, the effect becomes more subtle, almost similar to a uni-vibe at higher speeds. Unlike some phasers, this pedal is one that you can use all the time and won't be a one trick pony that you can only use on one song. To some, it might not be worth shelling out the extra cash for the EVH, but I generally prefer the script sound over the block-logo.
Comments about MXR EVH Eddie Van Halen Phase 90:
This Phase pedal is amazing...The stock effects are bright and almost chorus sounding. The script button slows down the swirls and it's noticeable if your dialed in around 1/3 of the way.I run my phase in front of all the other effects except for my EVH wah...Wah pedal goes first then run this one and anything else after...Always use an AC adaptor using pedals because this makes a hughes difference in the sound allowing the pedal to perform at 100%...
