Well built reliable easy to use and very flexable as far as what it can do despite the fact that is has only two controls.... more knobs to twiddle with don't make things better.
This baby is totaly foot control-able if that is even a word.
I could go on and on about this pedal It's been around awhile I have a really old one and the only differance is the old ones didn't have a lite on them.
This is the best comp box there is and I think the fact that it has only two knobs is part of it .
this is a great box for getting that Nashville sound but that is not all it can do .By setting the threshhold low it can mimic the sound of a tube rectified amp because as a note beguins to die the box brings it back to life so to speak creating sustain. Tube rectifiers choke heavy signals but as the note dies it's voltage increases creating sustain I like to use the little rubber thing on the output control so I can control it with my foot it is great as a volume control. This pedal is not just for country players it will make any amp and guitar sound better ...great really it helps breath life into notes if you don't run the threshold to high it is a monster volume boost get one I have been playing a long time and unless you find an old lab series L-5 amp this is what you should have best tool you will ever own.R.N.H
I think it is a ten and I can't think of too many other boxes that you can really say that about I've had mine thirty years it's unreal I must have gone through dozens of amp's and guitars but I some how held on to this old stomp box heck if it had blew up after a year I probably would still got another one.
I Also had an mxr distortion plus that I lost in a fire and it was a great tool as well.
I thiink I paid about $40.00 in 1979 for one of these baby's and I still have it and it has more than paid for itself I hope they bury me with it. there are always critics out there that nitpic but most of those cats cant play anyway so they blame the gear this thing will make you sound better if you let it.

I like MXR effects often because of build quality and because of the stomp switch, which I find personally more reliable than the treadle-style switch found on most Boss effects (for example). This effect does add the sparkle, and it definitely compresses. However, it is quite modest used as a clean boost. With some guitars, it seems to boost a useful amount, but not with others. I would recommend shopping for one that could add more boost if that is what is needed. Otherwise, it's fine.

A Few Complaints.... Not Mine Though

Comments about MXR M-102 Dyna Comp Compressor Pedal:

Lets get this staight first. I've only played this pedal twice. It has a great compression sound, days of sustain, but thats what a compressor is suppose to do, Right? Well it could also be used as a good boost pedal too. Now I know what all the complaints are about. This pedal tends to HISSSSSSS when its on. Well, when I played it, I noticed the same thing! and the thing is, theres a way to fix it. You don't need to buy a smart gate, or noise gate pedal to fix it. Theres actually a built in noise gate that comes within the pedal. All you need to do is unscrew the back and turn the noise gate up with a little screw driver. So next time you read a review about this pedal saying it is noisy, know theres a way to fix it. This is actually a great pedal, buy it.

Comments about MXR M-102 Dyna Comp Compressor Pedal:

Only annoying thing is the power plug on the side instead of at the top of the box like every other pedal in the world.
I've tried a few compressors in this range. Spent days fiddling with knobs and came up with nothing earthshaking. This one in about ten minutes got it. Or what I like. Left knob at 3:00 to 4:00. Right knob at 9:00 to 10:00. Nice sustain, sound very close to clean signal. Telecaster through Fender tube amps. No other pedals for gain or distortion. Country and blues.

Comments about MXR M-102 Dyna Comp Compressor Pedal:

I am totally disappointed with this pedal. I had high hopes since I read the good reviews for it. This pedal had no sustain whatsoever, it's way to noisy, also there's volume issues. I just couldn't tweak it to get any sustain.
It just has 2 knobs.
The construction was good.
The price was good.

Comments about MXR M-102 Dyna Comp Compressor Pedal:

After trying out many compression pedals decided to try the DYNACOMP and was absolutely blown away. After getting it home, as even more impressed. After a little tweaking found the sweet spot and it stays on all the time.

A good compressor should add something to your tone without completely coloring it. This pedal does it after a little tweaking. The BOSS sounded the same regardless of where you set it-colored, supersquashed, etc. The MXR has half the dials, and twice the range. In fact, after using it, I don't notice it's there until I turn it off, then it sounds like there's something missing.

Try it, use it, and play around with it, you'll be sure to find a setting that ENHANCES your tone. I did!!!

Came down to this Dyna Comp and the Keeley. Compared them next to each other and simply could not tell much, if any, difference. Musician's Friend sold me the Dyna Comp for about 1/4 the cost of the Keeley!! Nuff said!

For It's Price, It's Worth It

Comments about MXR M-102 Dyna Comp Compressor Pedal:

I decided to get one of these and play around with it to see if it's actually worth it. To be honest, the price point is excellent and even though it's light, it's built like a tank.Let's get this straight, I will not sit here and say that it is worthy of a comparison to a Keeley two-knob or a Diamond compressor (which I own both). If you're on a tight budget, this is probably the best compressor for it's price range, but investing in a Keeley or a comparable compressor is certainly better than this one. It definitely does what it's supposed to do and that is to compress your guitar signal, but it compresses it to the point where it squashes the signal too much. I find myself pushing the Output all the way, but that creates ridiculous noise.Overall, I like this pedal with the exception of over-compression. The price is unbeatable and it does what it's supposed to do so I guess, in that respect, it's a great pedal. I decided to mod this pedal to give it more clarity and bass.

There are two pedals you must have. A compressor is one of them.

Comments about MXR M-102 Dyna Comp Compressor Pedal:

After moving the amps out in the nook area, hooking up all the pedals and cranking it up, I knew I needed a compressor...and a noise gate. The noise gate I wanted was out of stock so I decided to go with only a comp for now. The MXR does a great job of smoothing things out, and even goes a long way toward taming the nasty, noisy hiss I was getting.

Other than an EQ, a compressor should be in your signal chain.

Compressor, Distortion, and EQ: these three will get you closer to that tone you're after.
Two knobs and a switch. Not much in the features department, but this pedal does exactly what it should.
Another well made product from MXR.
This one is priced just right. It's not fancy but it does a great job.

All depends on STYLE and AMP

Comments about MXR M-102 Dyna Comp Compressor Pedal:

I've been using this pedal for about 8 or 9 years now. I can say this. Obviously, you need to know for what a compressor is used. After you've googled that one, it's hard to go wrong with this one. For the money, it absolutely cannot be beaten--hands down. It can do quite a bit despite only having 2 knobs and the low low price tag. To put it bluntly, when I'm playing clean chords, I have yet to find a situation where I can afford to turn it off. But know this: it really depends on your amp. Cheaper amps--especially solid state amps, benefit GREATLY from having this pedal on all the time. I keep the knobs at 1 Oclock and 11 Oclock and it adds a severe level of warmth to an otherwise, cold or dry amp. It can even do so for cheap tube amps (like my hot rod deluxe). When i'm playing my hot rod, I NEED this pedal. When I'm playing my vintage bassman, I can click it off.
