Right around the time that this pedal first came out, I heard a local guitarist using it at a show. We started talking about it and from what I heard, it was enough to convince me that I had to try it. I've messed around with several Digital Delays over the years and the sound of the Analog Delay just won me over immediately. Once this pedal made it onto my board, it's never came off, except to re-position it. I even went to the store with my guitar and tried out the Carbon Copy against all the other Analog Delays that the store had available. This thing still won me over.
I play a variety of Strats through a Tweed Fender Bassman. I'm not huge on using a lot of effects to alter my sound. I enjoy playing with a clean or slightly overdriven tone with the use of some pedals to color my tone slightly. The only drawback I see from the Carbon Copy is it not having the option of reverse delay, which can be a very useful effect from time to time, especially in solos.
This pedal is extremely easy to use, very reliable, and affordable. The modulation button is an awesome function that, with the proper adjustments, adds much more depth to the overall sound.
The only reason this doesn't get a full 10 is because to me a full 10 rating on a delay would be for one that included reverse delay. There are 2 tweakable adjustments on the inside of the pedal for the modulation button. Might be a bad thing to some that it's necessary to open the pedal to make these adjustments but I'm sure for most players it won't be a problem. The 2 adjustments are more of a set and forget feature however they are extremely useful!
MXR builds great pedals that last and take a beating.
Compared to the higher price of some other pedals, especially Analog, the Carbon Copy holds it's own with a lot of delay pedals out there. Even though there are more expensive Delay pedals that sound better, there are also quite a few that are more than double the price that don't touch this one in terms of sound quality.

Okay, bought this in summer '08 when the second run came out and it was backordered. Was looking forward to this affordable analog delay as my first. Previously I used a Boss DD-6 with high cut mod. This is a decent delay pedal. I thought there could be more range in the mix knob. Mine was hard to dial in the right amount. Never used above 9 or 10 O'clock when soloing over something. Mod button didn't do much. It was true bypass and passed signal with no power. I may or may not have still been using this if it hadn't died. After 2 or 3 months I think, it stopped passing signal when engaged. I had registered it, so I sent it back with paperwork. I had it back in 3 weeks. They repaired it and I had to pay shipping to Dunlop. If it's helpful to anyone troubleshooting theirs, Dunlop said "replaced Q10 transistor". It seemed to sound better when I got it back, maybe they adjusted it. I don't remember if there are trimpots besides the mod trim. Maybe just my imagination. Anyways, it probably would have been fine, but I decided to sell it because I didn't trust it. I now have a real nice analog delay I built myself. It sounds better than the MXR. The M169 may be a good pedal for the price, but I'd buy it new and fill out the warranty card. I also wouldn't discourage anyone from getting a digital delay. There are probably as good if not better deals out there among the many delays available. Haven't tried it but like the BBE two timer. Maybe boss DD-7. Shop around.

Comments about MXR M169 Carbon Copy Analog Delay Guitar Effects Pedal:
This pedal is simple to operate. It is warm and very natural sounding. The power supply Jack is in an odd location. It is on the right side near the input jack. The lights are very bright. The sparkle paint job looks very nice. Analog delay is very old school. I like it and I bet you will too.

Comments about MXR M169 Carbon Copy Analog Delay Guitar Effects Pedal:
I really like this pedal, but I have experienced some problems with it. Sometimes it makes a continuous "growling" sound, even when it is the only pedal I have plugged in. The delay repeat become very faint as well. I have tried batteries and power supplies but always have the same problem. When it works, it is great, but it has become a very frustrating pedal to own.

Comments about MXR M169 Carbon Copy Analog Delay Guitar Effects Pedal:
I've owned this for about a year and can't say enough good things about it. I use it for slapback and subtle delay but this thing can do it all. It adds a very warm, organic sparkle to your sound. I run it through a plexi or tweed bassman and its awesome in both amps. Like all MXR/Dunlop stuff it's very well built and won't add noise to your signal path. If you want a warm, old-school style delay this is a great option.

Comments about MXR M169 Carbon Copy Analog Delay Guitar Effects Pedal:
This pedal really opens up the sound of the guitar and amp without muddying it, like you might expect from an analog delay. I've monkeyed with the regen and mod features - and they're a lot of fun. But I love keeping the settings on this pedal simple. With all three dials between 7 and 8 o'clock, there's a great reverb/slapback effect that - when plugged into my tube amp - gives me the rockabilly sound I'm looking for. The hardwire bypass is impressive and keeps the sound pure.
Not only would I buy this pedal if lost, I plan to buy another one for my keyboard.

this thing sets the mark for a delay pedal and will likely be something you use a lot in your rig I am planning to add another one so can leave the settings alone and switch it up for different songs/sets well worth the cash

Comments about MXR M169 Carbon Copy Analog Delay Guitar Effects Pedal:
This pedal is simply outstanding! I used this along with a TC Flashback and when the Flashback X4 was released I had planned on selling my Carbon Copy.
-Couldn't do it.
The dark, rich, ANALOG sound this pedal produces can't be replicated. The 'analog' mode on the Flashback comes real close but it's just not the same. This is a very authentic sounding delay in my opinion. It might not have bells and whistles or presets of a digital delay, but what it does it does exceptionally well.
I mainly use this to add a little echo to my leads as a subtle effect--but that's because of how I have it set. It works great for early Van Halen solos too! You can really get a plethora of tones/delays out of this. You really get a great 'clean' sounding delay with warm and naturally decaying repeats.
I personally can't recommend this pedal enough if you're looking for an analog delay!

Comments about MXR M169 Carbon Copy Analog Delay Guitar Effects Pedal:
The Carbon Copy is a sweet pedal. Let me start by saying I almost sold this pedal when I first tried it. It sounded great when I played clean but terrible with overdrive. I found out why. I had it placed in front of all my other effects pedals. After some research I found out it's best to place any delay or modulation (chorus, phaser etc..) at the end of your chain (IMO delay should be last). After I moved it to the end of my chain I was sooo happy. The pedal sounds awesome (like I was expecting). I'm very happy with this pedal. Now I have to re-route my entire pedal board, should have done my research before I set it up in the first place, DUH!

Comments about MXR M169 Carbon Copy Analog Delay Guitar Effects Pedal:
When I was searching for that *perfect* analog delay, I did a lot of homework and asking around... and guess which pedal kept coming up at the front of the pack.
The price point is unbeatable. The pedal itself is compact and built like a tank. Oh, and the tone is KILLER awesome. I especially love the sound diversity and the internal trim pots for the Modulation setting.
In fact, I love this pedal so much I bought a second one. Don't judge me... Remember when I said the pedal is diverse? Maybe I don't like making 1,000 adjustments in a set. Maybe I stack my delays. Maybe I'd rather have 4 of these instead of a Boss DD-20... but I don't think it'll come to that.
Just do yourself a favor and get one of these little monsters NOW.
