The MXR M77 Custom Modified Badass Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal is a classic overdrive circuit with modern modifications for improved performance and versatility.
For added flexibility, there's a 100HZ cut and boost control that allows for a more focused EQ when cut, or a beefier tone when boosted. The Bump switch engages an alternate EQ voicing that boosts the lows and mids. Put it in front of the '78 Custom Badass Distortion for a slew of amp-like gain structures that won't mask your tone.

This is just what I was looking for!! Was interested in a blues driver type stomp, but played this and really preferred the tone and flexibility. Very quiet, and the 100hz adjustment does just what it's supposed to. Great for adding clarity and emphasis to solos.

I use this through a Bugera V22 tube amp, which is a great amp but the overdrive/gain channel is pretty bad. I'm a fan of early Aerosmith, AC/DC, Thin Lizzy. Classic rock tones. In my band we play blues/rock/funk/r&b/soul tunes with a rock edge.
I tried this pedal on a whim, and instantly fell in love. It's got the classic rock overdrive thing, but the secret weapon with this is the frequency knob, where you can cut or add...i don't know what. It just works. It adds a nice, thick body to the notes, almost like it mixes in some fuzz tone and complex harmonics to the overdrive, but it's still focused and tight.
I use an Epi Sheraton with Gibson 57 Classic pickups, and even with the gain almost all the way up, when I roll back my volume knob, it cleans up very nicely.
Nice, thick, overdrive. Not heavy metal, but def hard rock. I play roots/alt country, too, and putting the gain knob at around 9 o'clock it does that, too.
That blue LED is wicked, I agree.
I've had no quality issues with mine, and I've gigged with it, play it all the time.
My one single complaint, if it's a complaint, is that I have to keep the level knob at 9 o'clock to be at equilibrium with the bypass mode (using the amp's clean channel). But that's really not a big deal. Just odd...usually you want that equilibrium up around noon on the dial.
I'm going to get a second one and use as my solo boost.

I was intrigued by the 100 hz knob so I purchased this pedal hoping it would thicken up my tone as needed. it did not disappoint.
The 100 hz knob works as advertised and thickens or thins your sound to make this a versatile addition. Sound quality is all there and its compact with a classy looking enclosure also. Very nice.

I picked this up on a whim - looking for something different to try out and add onto my pedal board. I looked at quite a few different overdrive pedals but bought this one on an impulse mostly becuase it was the cheapest option. I ran it through my Vox AC15C1 and it sounds great. Not a true boost pedal per se becuase it does add a little bit of grit to your clean tone but works great as an overdrive.
The only complaint that I have about this pedal is that the blue LED for the Bump switch is blindingly bright and the red LED for the pedal indicator isn't very bright at all... and sometimes I can't see whether it's on or not if I'm standing more than 5 feet away from my pedal board. Not a big deal though - I can tell when it's on by the sound.
Sounds good - Definitely gets the "Bang for the Buck" seal of approval.

I recently purchased an MXR M77 Custom Modified Badass Overdrive and really liked the tone but was extremely disappointed in the quality of the pedal. In regard to the tone it was close to the sounds I get from my MXR distortion II. The tone functions like the filter on the MXR II and the 100hz cut resembles the resonance. I am not sure if that was the intent but the color of the label on the box and the instruction manual are very close to the color of the MXR Distortion II. Overall when the pedal worked I was very satisfied with the tone and transparency. The problem I had was the that the LED for the footswitch and the bump no longer worked after 10 minutes or so of play. This still occured with a change in the battery and using DC connection. The tone of the pedal also changed once the LED was no longer working. In fact it sounded like a pedal with a low battery. Since I liked the pedal I exchanged the pedal for another MXR M77 and had the same problem with the second. Unfortunately a nice pedal with great tone but not the quality I would have expected from MXR.
It would be a better value if it worked

what is there to say about this pedal other than its a monster. If this was my first boost like pedal this would be the only one i need, even though i also have the badass distortion which it really does sound good in front of. Its best when theres another boost of some sort really it almost really doesnt matter if its your amp or another pedal its the best pedal for its money.
