Huge sound out of a microscopic package.

Orange Amplification launched the Micro Terror amplifier – their smallest Terror ever! Building on the winning recipe of the rest of the popular Terror series, the Micro Terror retains the beautiful unpretentious design, delivering a classic Orange sound way bigger than it looks, with a size and weight making it the most portable Terror yet!

With a high tensile steel case it is built to the same rugged specifications as the other members of the Terror family and is incredibly compact and highly portable. This is a true Orange Amp classic, with masses of vintage British character, clean crunch and full-on overdrive sounds.

Features

  • Volume, Tone and Gain control
  • Single channel hybrid
  • Tube preamp with solid state power amp
  • Aux input for MP3 or CD

I bought this amp looking for a backup head for my Marshall 6100LM for gigs. I wanted something small and portable and loud enough, but yet something that sounded good, and this fits the bill. There are three things that surprised me when I received this amp the other day: 1) How small and light it was, 2)how good it sounded, 3) how loud it was. There's nothing fancy about this amp, as it works same as other Orange amps such as the Tiny Terror and Dual Terror. Volume, gain & tone knobs. Aux input for MP3's, and speaker out in the back to 4, 8, or 16 ohm cab. I ran this thru my 4x12 and this amp sounded huge!! Would definately be able to use this for recording, gigging at small venues unmiked, and gigs at medium size venues miked. Loud enough run thru a 4x12 to keep up with a drummer. The sound is what you would expect from Orange, very similar to my Dual Terror that I used to own. Good warmth for a solid state power stage. Comes w/ a quality JJ ECC83S tube as well.Would highly recommend this for the [$] price tag. Great item that is much more than just a novelty peice.

After writing a review here I returned the little amp. It is just to much a one trick pony. Even with the up graded tube. It would be a fine amp for bedroom distortion practice. Metal players and teens. For anything else it has no musical value. I decided to put the money to better use than for something that would be sitting on a shelf unused.

Comments about Orange Amplifiers Micro Terror MT20 20W Hybrid Guitar Amp Head:

Subcompact lunchbox practice and headphone amp. I think it lacks headroom driving a cab or through headphones. The gain is good, from clean to very saturated. I think it sounds almost like a rat. This could be a good amp to toss in your car for jams and practice sessions, but I would rather take one of my real tube heads or combo amps. I use mine mostly as a very good headphone practice amp. I hate the external proprietary wall wort power supply.

Comments about Orange Amplifiers Micro Terror MT20 20W Hybrid Guitar Amp Head:

I was amazed how well this little amp sounded and how versatile it was with just volume, tone and gain controls. I was even more amazed at how a bass guitar sounded as well, this amp is the best amp you can buy in this price range and the sound exceeds that of amps costing much more.

Comments about Orange Amplifiers Micro Terror MT20 20W Hybrid Guitar Amp Head:

Great tube sound from such a small packsge. If you plan on playing metal through this amp without a distortion pedal, forget it. You would be lucky to get classic rock tones. It does take pedals well fortunately and sounds great with the right ones out front.

Comments about Orange Amplifiers Micro Terror MT20 20W Hybrid Guitar Amp Head:

I have read many comments about power and volume for this extreme compact amp. I just finished a jam session with my band. The drummer is very loud. I has the gain almost maxed and the volume only at 1/4 and I cut right through. The volume and sound from this tiny little Micro terror has to be experienced to actually believe it. I have it paired with an Orange 1 12" speaker cabinet. Even without the low price, this amp is killer!

Comments about Orange Amplifiers Micro Terror MT20 20W Hybrid Guitar Amp Head:

I seen some vids of this thing in action online so I went out and bought one. I am extremely impressed haha. I sold my half stack that day. and been using this since! i have it for about 4 months now. i run the gain around 1/2 , tone at 11oclock and volume about 1/2 to 3/4 to gig shows with a full band (mic to pa) through a 4x12 cab. I have it matched up with a mxr fullbore metal pedal with gain a little less then 1/4 just to boost the low gain tone up some and use a EQ pedal to do the rest. also having a OD or distortion pedal works great to have a cleanish channel. i absolutely love this monster and have no problem gigging in a full band on a big stage or small club. im gonna match it up with a orange 2x12 or 4x12 cab. id rather the 2x12 to make gig load in even easier and ill try a maxon od pedal also and see what i like better. overall this thing is awesome. and i got great reviews and laughs from sounds guys and the audience about the great tone and how it looks on top of a 4x12. try some different pedals for your style and you WILL NOT be disappointed! i play alternative rock to melodic/hardcore and found a great tone after some tweeks. eventually i will upgrade to a bigger orange head but ill still bring this micro monster to gigs and show it off! orange lifer!

Comments about Orange Amplifiers Micro Terror MT20 20W Hybrid Guitar Amp Head:

I use this for...Jazz. Believe it. It's great for jazz because it is tight and keeps up to the notes. Settings: Tone 3, Preamp 3. I love tubes, but this amp is so advanced as a Class D that I have to put it at the top of the list. I bought it as a joke but I'm not laughing anymore. This is a serious amp that I use everyday and everywhere. I've built and modded my own amps and pedals in the past so I was curious to see how it was built. Extremely sturdy and a very clean build. Soundwise, it can be either crunchy, heavily distorted, or very clean. The key to this amp is the Headphone Out. This is a preamp out. For performances I plug this little amp from the Headphone jack into delay effects and then into a power amp which drives my Creamback speaker(s). With this configuration you could perform in front of the smallest to largest venue imaginable.

Blows away pure solid state amps and many tube amps costing several times more! No kidding. Don't believe me, go to youtube and search for Orange Micro Terror 20 Watt Head by Rob Chapman. Want to kick it up a notch then replace the stock JJ tube it comes with with a vintage UK made Blackburn 12AX7 from the 60's.

Comments about Orange Amplifiers Micro Terror MT20 20W Hybrid Guitar Amp Head:

The Micro Terror can't touch vintage or high end tube amps for tone, but at this price point, absolutely nothing compares to the Micro Teror.

A version with an effects loop would be handy.
