OVERVIEW

Huge sound out of a microscopic package.

Orange Amplification launched the Micro Terror amplifier - their smallest Terror ever! Building on the winning recipe of the rest of the popular Terror series, the Micro Terror retains the beautiful unpretentious design, delivering a classic Orange sound way bigger than it looks, with a size and weight making it the most portable Terror yet!

With a high tensile steel case it is built to the same rugged specifications as the other members of the Terror family and is incredibly compact and highly portable. This is a true Orange Amp classic, with masses of vintage British character, clean crunch and full-on overdrive sounds.

Get the PPC 1x8 Cabinet to make a tidy little 1/2 or full stack. It looks cute and cuddley.... until you plug it in. Suddenly your face starts to get a little hot, but not unbearable.

Unplug from the 1x8 and plug it into a 1x12 or 2x12 cabinet then take this bad boy to rehearse with your band. Sure, they'll make fun of you for the 4 seconds it takes to turn it on and play the first chord. Your face will heat up a little more, and then your ears begin feeling a little damp. Then you think to yourself, "Wait a minute, this really sounds much better. Did I accidentally leave my 50 watt head plugged in?"

Now you're at the gig. You brought your 4x12 cabinet. But wait, this won't power a 4x12 cab, will it? Yes it will. Like crazy. The guys in your band know better than to tease the Micro Terror. Now it's time to prove it to the rest of the world. Trust me, they'll all be able to hear it. The bottom end response is killer, the gain is sick and the volume is crushing. Now your face is melting and your ears are bleeding, but you can't stop smiling!

The EQ seems to be active in the sense that 12 o'clock is flat. When you turn it up, the highs get boosted and the lows get cut at the same time.

This will fit in your gigbag or gear box... or your mouth.

Buy it and love it.

After writing a review here I returned the little amp. It is just to much a one trick pony. Even with the up graded tube. It would be a fine amp for bedroom distortion practice. Metal players and teens. For anything else it has no musical value. I decided to put the money to better use than for something that would be sitting on a shelf unused.

I specifically use this for church settings because you know how those loud amps are frowned upon. But for the size, it rocks!

Comments about Orange Amplifiers Micro Terror MT20 20W Hybrid Guitar Amp Head:

I bought this more as a novelty than any other reason. But boy, was I surprised with the volume & distortion this little box pumps out. I like it just fine as is but prefer a Boss Metal Zone along with it. I can run it through a single 12" cabinet or a 4 X 12 which really gets things going. Very well built but my only concern is that the unit is very light (which was expected) so I might have to anchor it down somehow.
    Nice work Orange!

Comments about Orange Amplifiers Micro Terror MT20 20W Hybrid Guitar Amp Head:

I bought this with a ppc108 cabinet - as my review for that cab says, I was very surprised how good and powerful they are together. I thought I would eventually get a larger cabinet for it, but i would only need to if using it for a live performance with a full band. (might be able to get away with ppc108 with a quiet drummer...) For just playing by myself or jamming with other guitar/bass players it is more than enough. This amp can get you great classic rock tone - but I play all styles of music and generally more jazz and hard rock sometimes into the metal range - and this sounds great for that as well. For full on metal you might want to add your favorite distortion pedal but the tube overdrive of the amp itself sounds fantastic! I haven't tried myself but this thing can drive a 4X12 cabinet pretty well according to videos that I've seen. It really sounds like a slightly scaled back version of a full amp head. for the price you will not be disappointed. You could definitely use this for amateur recording - probably professional recording as well but by then you've probably got a bigger amp. Any one who wants a tube amp to mess around with but doesn't have a lot of money to throw around should check this out - or if you just want something very portable. Note that this is a hybrid, it has solid state power and one tube for the preamp, but don't be afraid, it sounds great! It's louder than you might expect and although with the ppc108 it dosen't have extreme low end, it still has good low tones when used with six string guitars in standard as well as C tuning and I have used it with an 8 string guitar, which flops a little on the low string but with a larger cabinet would probably be fine. I highly recommend this amazing tiny amp. Watch some youtube videos if you aren't convinced. For portability the ppc108 cabinet works very well with this and still sounds very nice, but again you can power larger cabinets including 4X12.

Comments about Orange Amplifiers Micro Terror MT20 20W Hybrid Guitar Amp Head:

I bought this amp because I need something small to travel with. Boy was I suprized when I first plugged it. It sounds like a A Orange Tiny Terror! I thought it was going to be another "gimmick" amp, but I love it. The single tube preamp gives it a classic drive tone while the solid state power amp gives it the power to run a 4X12 cab! The only let down is that it has a single multi-bandwidth tone control rather then individual bass, middle and treble, but who can really complain at this price?

A great investment, works great with its counterpart the Orange 1x8 cab for just jamming at home or even recording. Also sounds great through a 4x12, and could be used for band practice or a gig. A little quiet if you're looking to play souly without any gain, but an awesome deal Aux in and headphone jacks are also great features, worth every penny!

Comments about Orange Amplifiers Micro Terror MT20 20W Hybrid Guitar Amp Head:

Like many others, I was impressed by the YouTube videos (especially Rob Chapman/Anderton's). However, I was surprised by the warmth and responsiveness of this amps. I've owned a couple (and used even more) hybrid amps. This is better, and not just at the brilliant price point.

Fiddling with the knobs on this box and on my guitars has given me access to almost any tone I can imagine with the exception of that syrupy Fender clean tone. Even so . . .

I bought this principally for higher gain tones, but have been very pleasantly surprised by the warmth and responsiveness of the clean tones. There isn't a ton of headroom on the clean tones, but there is a lot more than I was expecting. I've even used it for a jazz gig (coffeehouse sized venue--probably gets lost in a much bigger room). With everything on 10, you get plenty of crunch with sweet tone, and it's loud enough to keep up with most any drummer.

For practice and recording, I use a closed-back 1 x 8 with a Jensen in it, and for gigs I use an open-back 1 x 12 loaded with a Swamp Thang. Both sound amazing with this little guy.

The few pedals I've tried, it has taken well. (Boss Fender Reverb and a DOD chorus from the 80s) I mostly plug the guitar straight into the box, so you'll want a second opinion on this.

I bought this as a one-trick pony, but I keep discovering things I like about it. Which seems odd given that the thing only has three knobs.

It's a great little amp for playing at home as well as recording, and it sounds phenomenal. It has orange tone all the way, and it's really easy to use, but don't expect to walk into a practice and hang with the band.

Comments about Orange Amplifiers Micro Terror MT20 20W Hybrid Guitar Amp Head:

I decided to buy this amp because of the great reviews, price, size, and sure, because of the brand and styling. I was looking mostly for a small practice amp that could put out some rock-level gain. The take-away, though, is that it excels with a bigger speaker/cab and at volume.

In part because the Micro Terror is so small and discrete, I was hoping to get more use out of the headphones for quiet practising but I have to warn you: the headphone sound quality, at least for overdriven sounds, is poor and quite buzzy (I have a Blackstar HT5 which has emulated headphone output and by comparison is FAR better for this; its cleans are more limited, but its built-in gain is higher too, and it has two channels...)

I'd also recommend skipping the Orange PC108 cabinet. It's okay, and not a big expense, but limits the sound, especially the lower end and gain. For powerchords and solos, I felt I needed to add an OD pedal as a boost. Looks good, though, and I can fit the whole rig on a bookshelf :)

I recently picked up a Blackstar HTV-112 oversized 1x12" cab to pair with either of my amps, and THAT, I gotta say, adds a lot of lower end and really makes the Micro Terror shine. Sounds fantastic, and for those that like higher gain, will be a lot more pleasing than the smaller cab. I just want to keep pushing that volume up -- sounds fantastic. I imagine it'd be the same with a good 2x12 or 4x12.

All in all a nice little amp, and I'd say worth it for the price. Despite the size, it's better at volume!

This amp is great for the price. Very loud for the size of it. I bought the ppc 1x8 with the amp and was very impressed how loud it could get. The only thing I don't like about the amp is that the gain controls the volume more than the volume itself. Don't let that discourage you from buying this amp. It's an amazing practice amp and can even use it to jam or have band practice.
