OVERVIEW

Wild West distortion.

Don't let its compact size fool you - Widow Maker is not for the faint of heart. Boasting scorching, saturated distortion with tight attack, this is one dangerous, high-gain beast.

Three distinct EQ voicings let you fine-tune Widow Maker's gruelling tones to your tastes. BOOST OFF gives you a sinister, hard-hitting tone ideal for rhythm parts. LO BOOST takes things into '80s territory by scooping the mids. HI BOOST provides devastating, razor sharp tone with blistering highs, ideal for darker amps and cutting through the heaviest rhythm sections.

Featuring True Bypass switching, Widow Maker lets you unleash lethal amounts of potent high-gain from a pocket-sized pedal.

Outlaw Effects are a compact and sensible line of guitar and bass effects pedals. They are slim and low profile, and take up very little room on a pedal board. True bypass switching, a rugged chassis, low noise and affordability are the hallmarks of the Outlaw Effects line. Saddle up, partner, there's a new sheriff in tone.

Comments about Outlaw Effects Widow Maker Metal Guitar Distortion Pedal:

First things first, this thing is tiny, and it is POWERFUL. I don't think I've ever had the gain past noon, because I've never needed to. My amp is by no means a super high gain monster (EL84 circuit, 1x12 combo), but this pedal makes it one. For the kind of stuff I like to play (80s thrash, early death metal), I think it does a really good job. Between the three switch positions and a really flexible tone knob, you can get a really wide range of usable tones with it. When I showed it to my brother (a much better player than me, with a lot better gear), he was astonished when I told him the price. I almost had to pry him away from the thing.

If there are complaints to be had, I have to echo one of the previous reviews in saying that the hi-boost adds almost too much highs to be useful. But I guess if you switch to a neck pickup and roll off the tone, it can be okay.

If this one breaks (hopefully not), I'll definitely replace it with more of the same.

Comments about Outlaw Effects Widow Maker Metal Guitar Distortion Pedal:

I bought this pedal on a whim a month or so ago and was pleasantly surprised by the tones offered. It delivers a very nice vintage 80s metal tone...think Judas Priest, Mercyful Fate, Accept, Ozzy. It's very treble and mid heavy with a bit of that nasal quality that pedals like the MXR Distortion + produce (which I personally like...might not work for all styles though). You have to set it fairly flat and work with the tone knobs on your amp to get it where you want sonically. I'm running through a solid state amp right now and think it sounds pretty good...but I bet it would shine through a warm EL34 tube amp with the power section cranked a bit. The tone knob works as a mid boost/cut, and I think it sounds best just slightly under 12 o'clock. The top boost switch adds way too much high end to be really useful IMO, unless your amp is ridiculously dark or something. It has more than enough gain on tap with humbuckers. I actually like it best with stacked strat pickups to cut the gain down to a nice chug, and boosted with a TS-9 Tube Screamer for leads. The only fault I can find is if the gain and volume are cranked it can produce a whistling internal feedback if your guitar cable comes unplugged. But with the volume around 50% like I leave it you won't get that. I probably wouldn't recommend it for death metal or modern metal/rock, because it doesn't sound too great with the lower tunings for some reason. But for standard/D tuning and classic metal, or maybe black metal or something, it's a great pedal and a real bargain.

Comments about Outlaw Effects Widow Maker Metal Guitar Distortion Pedal:

I have an 25 year old BOSS Heavymetal, Danelectro French toast, Behringer Tube overdrive and Heavy distortion. My favorite WAS the Danelectro French Toast (what a great value!). All these are good the BOSS enables some 'severe' harmonics WOW!
The WIDOW MAKER is AMAZING. THE BEST I HAVE HEARD !!! all that power and small size means it does need a 9 volt AC power supply. fortunately my Danelectro amp adapter worked so I could ROCK as soon as it was out of the box. IF you like POWER, distortion, overdrive while still recognizing notes this is ONE EFFECT YOU MUST HAVE, ESPECIALLY AT THIS PRICE & FREE SHIPPING!! INCREDIBLE!
