Comments about Peavey Classic 30 Special Edition 1x12 Tube Combo:
I am moving towards a Jazz sound although I also like and play Classic Rock and 60's and 70's music. I have been playing the guitar for around 30 years on and off, in bands and just at home.
Recently bought a Epiphone Sheriton II and JP Emperor II. Played thru my Fender Mustang III, SuperChamp X2, and Vox AD60VT, both guitars sound good but not great. The SuperChamp is a tube amp using 6V6's.
Just on a whim, GC had a new Peavey Classis 30 Special Edition on the floor and I decided to try it. WOW - this is the sound I have been looking for! I had tried the Tweed Classic 30 before, one with the standard speaker, and it sounded good but not great.
The new Classic 30 (w/standby switch) appears to be an improved model, but the real interesting thing is with the Celestion G12 V type (70w) speaker - it has a wondefully musical sound. It sound amazing with a clean tone and also very good using the built in higher gain channel. A number of other people do not like the high gain channel on this amp but I did not buy the amp for that. One can easily put a favorite pedal in front of the amp to get the desired type of distortion.
The clean sound is the killer feature of this Special Edition amp.
If that last sentence interests you, you must at least try this amp out (remember with the Celestion G12 V speaker, not the Peavey one). The Celestion speaker transforms this amp into a completely different amp in my opinion.
Within 10 minutes of trying the amp, I put a sizable deposit on it and picked it up the next day, trading the SuperChamp in for this amp.
I will never sell or trade this amp in.
