Don't try to save $$$ with the Sanpera I; You need the Sanpera II to get the most out of your Vyper

I started with the Sanpera 1, but once I realized how amazing the Vyper's sound possibilities are, I wanted the additional presets & LCD.  Having these functions plus the looper, makes this worth the purchase, but it is not without some problems.  The pedal activation is very poorly designed.  It says in the manual to just tap the toe area to activate them, but it requires slamming them down repeatedly to get them to work.  So expecting to kick on the whammy while soloing live would be unpredictable.  Worse still, is that the whammy activates sometimes even when your foot is not even near the pedal.  All that Peavey had to do was simply install separate button activation switches to eliminate this problem, so I'm not sure what they were thinking.  I also had these same problems with the Sanpera 1, so I don't think that this is an isolated problem.  The built in chromatic tuner is not very convenient to use either, so I'd recommend picking one up.  But even with the pedal issues, I would still recommend this product, if you own a Vyper amp.  Everything else it does is awesome.

Must have for Vypyr 30 watt +

Features:

The footswitches are simple, the expression pedals are great (although to activate the tuner, you push down w/ the volume pedal, it's real touchy, so if you volume up to high, it turns into the tuner.) The wah sounds great as good as any other wah's I've used in the past, Morley's, Dunlop's.  However, I know it's brand new so maybe this is why, but I have to really push hard for it to activate the wah.  Saving presets and giving them names and saving them is easy once you figure it out.

Quality:

Although, this thing is tough.  I mean the casing is heavy it's the footswitch buttons I worry about.  First they're a little noisy when pushing them and I'm wondering after a lot of usage if they'll fall apart, like the springs etc.  But, I'm hoping as they get broken in they'll be less noisy and I'm hoping that they last a long time.

Value:

Can't get a better deal anywhere for all that you get.  I mean, a great wah ( over 100.00 by itself), volume pedal ( almost 100.00 by itself) just with those two features it pays for itself, then include the looper, the pitchshifter, plus the storage of over 400 presets...Amazing value..

Overall:

Couldn't be happier with this set up.  I liked the amp which I bought 2 years ago, I thought it was great.  I've had fun coming up with interesting presets and it's nice that you can find online different sites where people have posted "artist" presets as well.  I bought the Sanpera 2 a month ago and am blown away by how easy to use this footcontrol is, but also how great everything sounds and I don't have to stop and push the buttons on my amp in mid play anymore.  this pedal opens up a whole new world of playing.  Should of bought the Sanpera 2 when I bought the amp.  That's been my biggest regret.

Side note, **this is important**, Take really good care of the 8 pin midi cord.  I've searched everywhere online, I can't find one and although I found one on ebay, I ordered it and got ripped off, it never came, I emailed them w/ no response.  The only place I have found that is credible is Peavey itself.  When I talked to them, they said that these cables are made only specifically for the Vypyr/Sanpera 2.  So..Take good care of it or it will cost you about 30.00 and a few weeks to get it ordered through Peavey and delivered.

Buy the Sanpera II

| Review By: Larry Boeldt | 8 months, 1 week ago

Features:

The Sanpera II really brings out the feature set of the Vypyr line of amps. I own a Vypyr Tube 120 and bought a Sanpera I initially. That was a mistake. Since I sing, play rhythm and lead I found it too easy to unknowingly hit the looper, then suddenly loops start playing during live performances. Not cool! That problem went away with the Sanpera II it is bigger and the foot buttons are further apart.

I deduct one point because the screen is not bright enough or big enough and the tuner is a freakshow. Get a good BOSS chromatic tuner and you'll be set. Even if the tuner were better the display is hard to read from a distance.

Quality:

Rugged, solid, and reliable. My only complaint is the chord that leads to the amp should be about 25 or 30 feet that would provide enough distance from the amp that you can hear it in all its splendor.

Value:

Sanpera I, waste of money. Sanpera II worth every penny. Nuff said.

Overall:

I really regret spending the money on the Sanpera I. However I have to say the Sanpera II is just what I needed. My only gripes are length of cable to amp, tiny screen and crummy display for the tuner.
