I bought the peavey XXX 1x12 combo today and I am completely satisfied with the purchase. It has simply the perfect distortion that I was looking for, a sweet clean sound, not to mention the huge amount of effects available. With 200 watts, this thing can get loud! If you need even more power and volume, you can plug it in to any 16 ohm speaker cabinet. Summary: It rocks.

    too muddy

    By redneckmetal

I recently tried this thing with an Epiphone Les Paul. I wasn't thrilled. It sounded very muddy, and I didn't get the gain I was looking for. I didn't even try the clean channel, because I usually play metal. It's very straight forward amp, not a lot of bells and whistles. It is a peavey, so I'd say it?s pretty durable (I own an older peavey that's been through hell), but I'd save up for the 6505+ if you're looking for a metal amp. I recommend playing one before you buy it, as I wasn't very happy with its tone. It?s just not for me

I used to own this amp a few years ago and I now realize how good it was. The dirty channel is just awesome. The clean tone was ok but seemed like it could use some more headroom. It was really small but sounded big so don't let the size fool you. I also owned a Mesa Boogie Single Rectifier and I must say that this Peavey sounds like a smaller version of it. It's better than Mesa "F" series.

Best amp Ive played in the price range!

    By Pat-F-RWL

This Peavey XXX is the best amp that I have played in its price range (I got mine for $650.) The crunch channel is pretty good, but it seems that there is a gap in gain between the crunch and Ultra channels. Clean channel is great, and sounds good with either humbuckers or single coils. The Ultra Channel is where this thing shines though. It has so much gain and volume, that I can overpower my friends 120 watt Crate Halfstack with it. The amp sounds great with scooped mids, or boosted mids, so it does a variety of different metal and rock tones very well. The only effect is reverb, which doesnt bother me, but might be important to some people. Also, this thing produces a ton of hiss and feedback whenever the volume is past 5, so you will need a noise gate for it. Overall, this is an amazing amp for hard rock and metal.

    xxx

    By SKOT-TgmIp

I bought this amp a couple of months ago and it is flawless. There is soo much power in such a small package. I have an old 100 watt laney amp and the Peavey blows it out of tha water. If your looking for sound quality and LOUDNESS go for this thing man.

    Awesome Metal Amp

    By Anonymous

    from Undisclosed

Awesome loud metal amp. I have had the Peavey XXX for about 1 month now and love it. I have used it for gigs which had about 100-150 people. It has 3 channels clean, crunch, and ultra. Good for metal and hard rock. The only bad thing is the clean channel but a chorus pedal can fix that.
