This is a very nice guitar amp if you can dig running thru a single channel-(which i'm used to doing). It is waay loud, and covers clean to chunky rock. (depending on the tube compliment, it can even approach metal).I've been thru and thru this amp inside and out, and can attest that any lack of tone issues are ALWAYS related to other factors- (ie: below spec preamp tubes, dirty/loose tube receptacle contact pins, failing guitar cable/cord, and component failures resulting from physical abuse). The only complaint I have was the preamp board wiring layout, which makes it a long process to remove it for mods. I added a bias ckt on the pwr. supply board, which allows me to run my output tubes a little hot...or adjust for various manufactured tubes. I also run a 120vac 5.5" box fan onto the output tubes and tranny, so that i can play loud and long-(and still touch the tubes). The amp is quiet enough that the fan does'nt interfere whatsoever. This is a very respectable amp irreguardless--when compared to other close equivelant output tube combos.Replace the cheap plastic feet with rubber, Install decent (and tested) tubes, Don't allow it to fly around when transporting, and Assist ventilation..(on any tube amp for that matter).,and this amp DOES deliver.Now......Put that in your pipe and smoke it!

My Pignose 60VR played well for a month with decent tone and certainly ear-splitting volume, but then the story turns sour. The amp started crackling and popping for no reason and the sound faded in and out. Left with the burden of shipping it to A real New Jersey "tough guy" who did nothing and sent it back with a giant cockroach in the box, I was back on the phone with the owner of the Pignose company. He told me he would send another amp, we discussed the finer points of having slaves make your merchandise for pennies on the dollar and selling it to the very people who could have performed the jobs themselves....we discussed the poor quality of Chinese goods, we discussed diplomacy....poor guy has his hands full, the next amp he sent was the wrong one! I returned it. He sent the correct amp,it was worse than the first! Crackling and popping from the first plug-in. If you are asking me whether you should buy this amplifier at this point you should let someone else shop for you, like your mommy. I care about people like myself who do not make a lot of dough, but want a real amplifier..Stay away from Pignose,,and stay away from their tech dude in New Jersey..They are not your friend in my opinion..Look elsewhere for an amp, the days of US made Pignose are over...it's the end of an era friends.

Great Amp

By Rondo08

from Miplton, Fl

I've played this amp for the past six years and really like it. I replaced the 12" factory speaker with a Celestion and also replaced the tubes with Tongsol, it is excellent for blues, rock and country. You can get a british sound if you attach an extension cab.

Good with Flaws

By jpopovits

from Atlanta GA

This is a solid amp tone wise, but the feature department is really lacking. IF you are looking for a straight ahead guitar amp, then look elsewhere because this will not give you what you need. It IS however, a good all around amp for keys, pedal steel, harmonica, and it certainly CAN be a great guitar amp. But it's features and set up are not guitar oriented by any means. Technically the only problem I have had with it has been a loose input jack, which is what I imagine the guy above with the crackling and popping also had. That's not too bad, it's only a cheap fix, but still for this kind of boutique price I expected a lot more quality. One thing I can't complain about is the volume, this thing gets very, very loud.

This is a fabulous little all-tube amp!

By burntoutoldhack

from Wichita, KS

This little critter is simply amazing. Two 6L6's and 4 12AX7's. I'd put it up against any Mesa, Marshall, or similar 1-12 tube combo, and I bet it would win (at half the price). Maybe the best sounding amp in it's category I've heard. Good fit and finish. No BS controls I don't need. Tube-driven spring reverb sounds great, but the pot isn't very linear. The preamp clips really nicely and master volume allows great tone at any level. I put it on top of a 2-12 Marshall Celestion cabinet for a 3-12 config and it was truly a beast. Unbelievably loud if you want it to be, but very quiet at idle, almost silent. Needs a standby switch, and rubber feet instead of hard plastic. Other than that, it's killer. Worst thing I can say about it is it's Chinese (designed in the USA). Time will tell how well it holds up, but it appears to be very serviceable if there is a problem. Chinese speaker sounds good, but I'm worried about its durability. I just wish Pignose would have built it in the US and charged another $100 bucks. I'm rating it 8 overall but it would be a 9.5 if it was USA-built.

The basic amp is pretty good. I changed out the chinese tubes for USA ones, and put in an Eminence 12" and wow! Way better sound! Have had no problems with it.

Retube for reliability and tone

By ToneHound

from Concord MA

I would replace all of the Chinese tubes with Russian/Slovik tubes before using this amp for any gig or other extended use. The tone will improve significantly, and the power transfomer won't burn up when one of the tubes shorts out.

A lot of amp fot a small price.

By LongtimeGuitarist

from Northridge, CA

This is a decent all tube amp at an unbelievably low price. Works well for practice or small gigs. A little bit noisy, but not bad for a tube amp.

Loud amp with lots of tone

By Reverend

from Port Townsend

This amp is great when used as a guitar amp for music styles like rockabilly and blues, but could use a standby switch and a reverb footswitch. It can power a 4x12 cab with a nice loud and clear sound. It sounds like some Fender tube amps with middle ground bluesy gain, you may need a distortion pedal if you plan on playing punk or hard rock. Overall it is a very affordable loud and dependable amp with a nice sound.
