I previously had a spider 2 which was a decent amp but I needed something for a live and band practice situation. So I bought this head. When I got it it looked well put together I doubt it will fall apart and it looks good all black with chrome knobs and a metal grill with the Randall logo. The instruction maunal was pretty vague not to detailed but there isnt anything complicated about the amp. It has two channels clean and a distortion with a clean boost for the clean chanel which gives it a volume boost and a slight breakup if you strum the strings hard. On the distortion channel there is a countour know that affects the overall eq of the channel and a voicing button that if pushed empasizes the mids. Plus there are two different gain types the red gain is more heavy and modern sounding and the green one has less gain more tight sounding. I have it hooked up to a crate cab with celestion 7080's. The first thing that you will notice is that this thing has bass up the anus. Very very overpowering bass. So I ended up turning it down pretty low around 1 and it still has quite some omph but is controlable. I figured I wouldnt use the green channel because It would have enough gain but It does have enough gain and it more tight than the red channel wich I like. The red channel works excellent for a solo bost when Im playing rythm ill be ont he green then when a solo comes boom go to red and its louded and more gain perfect for a solo. This head is pretty much total brutal heavy metal in a box. The clean channel is pretty much just neatral it doesnt really have any voicing its just plain clean which isnt a bad thing because that means effects will work good and the tone wont be altered. But dont expect fender cleans, but i doubt you would be buying this amp if you were lol. The amp comes with a nice big footswitch where you can switch channels and gain types and the clean boost. Also there are seperate reverb controls for both chanelles which is a nice feature but I dont use reverb alot. This thing is god damn **** ****** loud! Its probably around equal to a typical 100 watt tube head. My drummer hits as hard as you can and breaks symbals and sticks alot but I can get over him easy. This head acts alot like a tube head too even if it only has one tube. On low volumes it doesnt sound as good as if you crank it. And like a tube head you can crank it wiht out it sounds like crap like most solid state heads Im really impressed. All in all a great metal head with plenty of head room and a great price tag get it now!

These are fantastic amp especially when compared to other high end tube amps or amps of its kind.
My band mate plays through a Mesa dual rectifier and admits that the tone from the Randall is fantastics and jaw dropping when compared to the Mesa. This amp is absolutely awesome, i own the 300 and the 150 watt version, these amps are great for any style of playing, contour voicing, dual gain channels 12at7 preamp tube, swap in a groove tube 12ax7-R and unleash extreme metal fury and anyone within earshot and with 300 speaker pounding watts, And it looks as mean as it sound, parents and neighbors beware

The overall sound quality of this amp is pretty decent and for the price you wont find anything louder than this amp head. It has a very good palm mutting sound as well as sqealing harmonics, but the only thing lacking in this amp is the midrange. The bass also has to be set low, otherwise it overpowers everything else. The clean channel is basic with no real sparkle to it, but it's not the worst out there. Overall this amp is Extremely LOUD!!!! With the help of an equalizer this thing can sound amazing. I use a GT-8 with it and the sound is perfect for me. I love the 12AT7 preamp tube also, it gets you as close to a full tube amp as you can without spending a ton of money. Try swapping out the preamp tube and try other ones. You'll be amazed at the difference the tube makes.

I bought this amp to replace my old Randall Titan. And this amp more than does the job! It has a nice tight bass to the palm mutes and screams harmonics out like nothing. Still looking to get the Randall cab with the Celestion Seventy 80

Alright. I just got this head with the matching cab not too long ago and I cannot say many bad things at all. (By the way I play on a Gibson Explorer) The distortion has this rawness which is just great for metal. (which is all I play) It does cut out when the master and level knob is around 8 1/2 or so, but i will never need it that loud so it doesn't bother me. The only thing i wanted was a gain knob on the clean channel. Other than that its is a great head for anyone that loves metal, old or new.

G3 review

By General Lee

from Felton, CA

I got my Randall G3 a month ago, I previously owned a Mesa triple rec and a Marshall jcm 900 so I have had some nice amps to compare. First off distortion: very very heavy distortion. Tons of low end. The clean is well, clean, the onboard reverb is ok. Overall I personally prefer this amp over my old mesa for what I do. A good value if you play hardcore/metal stuff and don't wanna blow 2 grand on a head.

This amp is amazing for the price. It has great tone and has some great distortion on it too. 300 watts for only this much, you can't find that everyday. It is built well and looks cool too. This is great for hard rock, and metal.

Randall RH300G3

i purchased this head in november of 06. This is a great head for the price. It has a nice mesa "esque" tone to it. I run it through a crappy little hartke 4x12 cab with celestions and it kicks ass. I use a digitech GNX1 for a preamp and effects switching. I turn the output up on the digitech and it screams. This is in my opinion a great way to go. I love it. I can get any tone with this amp. My USA dimebag washburn smokes thru this thing. I would not trade this setup for anything, well.... maybe a better cab like a vader cab or a VHT cab.

Randall amps equal great tone!

By rhoads392

from Bellmore, NY

First of all, with this amp the clean is very clear like on a high class fender. The gain 1 is good, it has sort of a lamb of god tone if you put the gain on 10. The gain 2 is slightly heavier than the gain 1. Plenty of volume. I ordered mine from this site and a b-52 cab for more power and less distortion of the speakers. Overall its a great buy.

The Randall Rh300G3 is a must have for the sound conscious on a budget. This head truly delivers! Anyways, if you're looking for an amp that can do anything(it will make your ears bleed it is so good), then this is the one. Here are some important details.1.)It has a slight "Hum", but at least you know it's pumping some power right?2.)It has a contour knob that allows you to get any tone imaginable.3.)Buy a good cab with it to maximize performance.(randall cabs are nice)4.)It will give most guitars a makeover for the better.

Metal to the bone

By mEtalMan20

from leland, MS

I just took my RH300G3 out of its box about two hours ago and WOW!! This head means business. I have it run through a B-52 AT480 4x12 cabinet and it kicked my ass. The Clean channel is warm and adds a nice thick tone to my Jackson KV3 that was missing before. All I have to say about the overdrive channels is that they have the heaviest sound I have ever heard from a head in this price range. Its made for balls to the wall metal and if your looking for a new head then look no further. Good price, Great looks, and even better sound.
