Now come on lets dont take the G-5 seriously for live application, it is what it is! Its not for anything else other than individual practice and testing. Or maybe a private little semi acoustic jam or something. Distortion is more useful when set at lower gain. P90's sound better than humbuckers for the G-5, I imagine single coils would sound good too. Knowing which guitar sounds best thru what amp is common place, even th G5 has its niche. Nice little amp as long as you know its boundaries. Understanding what thie G-5 can and cant do is critical, as with any amp. Overall sound is ok, having reverb would bring it higher numbers. An open back space to carry the adaptor would have been a plus too. Also the 9v power input jack should have been placed on the back or side, not the front. All in all, I'm satisfied , it is what I expected.
Input, gain, volume, tone, distortion switch, headphone out, comes with a 9v adaptor, or use a 9v battery to power up(located inside and countersunk in the back panel). Has a real handle, rubber legs, protectuve corners. nice grill and logo. Light weight. About 4 x 10 x 10 in size. And closed back design. If it had Reverb I would have bumped it up a number.
Seems a very good build for a little guy, quite sturdy. No issues in cosmetics.
Rated at a 9 because I knew what I was getting and thats all I wanted. Useing it for low volume individual practice and testing when I work on my gear. Very portable and thats a plus, I already have have everything in between up to a full stack+.

I wanted an amp to busk with, but this is simply too quiet. My cohort has a Vox, the 3w mini one, and it's about twice as loud as this--even when I crank it. The tone is OK, but not good. Simply put, I'm buying a new battery powered amp.

Poor sound

Comments about Rogue G5 5W Battery-Powered Guitar Combo Amp:

This is the same amp sold by Lyon (Washburn) as the LA5 and Cresent, with a different name. Tiny speaker has no bass. This is slightly better than the plastic mini amps that are little more than bookshelf decorations from the name brands at least it has a proper box and covering.

Great Little Combo Amp For Practice

By Duts

Comments about Rogue G5 5W Battery-Powered Guitar Combo Amp:

You cannot go wrong with the ROGUE G-5 mini amp. Just remember it is only 5 watts output so use and enjoy it according. I also found out I could run my keyboard through the input and use it as a practice amp for my keyboards and guitars.
Has gain, volume and tone controls with input and phone outputs. On & off switch with lighted LED. Powered by 9 volt DC battery or included 9 VDC power supply which plugs into the front of the amp by the on/off switch. This Rogue G-5 looks and feels like a much bigger amp.
Cabinet built very sturdy with handle on top. All side corners have plastic protectors. The sound is what you would expect for a mini - amp. This would be excellent for practice or just playing in a small room for fun. Also with the battery backup you can take this outside and play for hours.
The ROGUE G-5 is an excellent mini-amp which you will find handy for practice or just playing without waking up the entire house or neighborhood.

Not really an Amp

By Wayfinder

from Midwest

Comments about Rogue G5 5W Battery-Powered Guitar Combo Amp:

For my needs, this device proved to be useless. For others it may have some very limited application (such as practicing their electric solid-body guitar at 2am without disturbing others). It also makes an attractive doorstop... which will probably be my application. Honest. ; )
Has all the basic controls, easy to access. Battery is easy to install. Device is easy to use.
It's well-built and sturdy, not flimsy at all.
It could only be considered an "amp" by the furthest stretch. Even at full gain and full volume, sitting right in my lap, playing my electric accoustic classical guitar, the sound was no louder than the guitar itself. Indeed, playing the guitar at low-strum (ie, lower volume), the guitar drowned out the "amp". The only use I could consider for this amp is if one had a solid body electric guitar that they just wished to hear while they're practicing, without disturbing the person in the room next to them (for the sound surely would not carry that far). Were one to use a microphone and voice... your voice would drown out the amp itself.

Comments about Rogue G5 5W Battery-Powered Guitar Combo Amp:

This is a good option for a very small, very portable practice amp. The sound is not great, but it's good for trying new ideas or just bending strings. It's an inexpensive practice amp, so that's what you get. The sound is better with head phones, but that's not typically an option for me. I'm happy with the purchase, it's what I expected for the price. You want 100 watts of Marshal tube crunch, buy a Marshal tube amp. You want to hear your guitar over the washing machine, cleaning your clothes for your trip to the daily grind, then this is a great amp for the price.

Comments about Rogue G5 5W Battery-Powered Guitar Combo Amp:

I love this amp! It has options for portable battery power, or a 110v plug-in power supply (included). The sound is great for small gatherings on the patio at home, a small studio for lessons, and personal practice. I haven't tried it for larger events. The battery can drain quickly if you crank the volume up, but the sound is very nice and clear on 110v power, and the overdrive gives a great boost.

Comments about Rogue G5 5W Battery-Powered Guitar Combo Amp:

I'm presently in a rock bank and built a studio in the basement. It is a perfect little practice amp to keep upstairs in my room, where I can practice without lugging something heavier upstairs. I seen it on Stupid Deal of the Day for $20, If I would have known how good is sounded, I would have bought four of them. Perfect for bring to my favorite camp ground and playing with my Buds.
Gain, volume, tone, and a clean or distortion botton, It can run off battery or 9V ac adaptor, included.
    Very solid, and compact.
Great value, counldn't pass it up.

    Basic but fun.

    By Kenneth Burke

Comments about Rogue G5 5W Battery-Powered Guitar Combo Amp:

I bought this as a "Stupid Deal of the Day" and at the price, I must say that I was more than satisfied. It's important to remember to put the 9-volt battery in correctly and plug your guitar cord in completely, but once you do, the sound is clean on the normal setting and pleasingly nasty on overdrive. This Crate look-a-like is perfect for practice sessions or small scale jams with one's friends. As another reviewer wrote, the only thing that would make this perfect would be a reverb setting. As is, it's fun, inexpensive and really quite useful.

    It is what it is

    By Thomas Barrett

Comments about Rogue G5 5W Battery-Powered Guitar Combo Amp:

I didn't expect much and I was not disappointed. It's a good cheap way to get amplification for your guitar. If you don't need the small size and portability, try a larger all electric model.
It will amplify your guitar. You're just about required to use gain in order to get any volume.
    It seems well built enough.
For the price, it's a good deal if you don't have any other amplification. I have a small fender amp that I went back to immediately after trying this. I don't see when I'll use it, but it might come in handy if I'm ever away from electricity.

    My favorite practice amp!

    By Brenda Rogers

    from America

Comments about Rogue G5 5W Battery-Powered Guitar Combo Amp:

Great amp. Skip lunch and just buy the amp. Its so portable, its the size of a lunchbox!
The controls are basic. The best feature is its portability. It won't wake up the house, but it has good tone, and is FUN to play through! After warming up with this amp I'll go plug into a bigger amp. You can take it with you and the sound is good on all settings. Its louder than the Smokey Amp, which I also love. For the money as a stupid deal of the day, its a best buy.
Its very sturdy. Everything worked great out of the box. Its pretty, well finished, and everything works. It seems quite durable and will last for my purposes for years. (don't play your bass through it!)What more do you need for the price?
I am very happy with this amp. Other practice amps with more features cost more. If you can live and have fun with basic features, you won't be dissappointed with this amp!

You can take this little portable amp on your canoe trip. If it falls overboard, no loss. If it works you can play your guitar in the outdoors. Takes a 9Volt battery. If you only get to use it once that's cool.

This was a stupid deal of the day. I've been looking for a practice amp, and this does the trick so I don't have to fire up the Marshall half stack just to play/write riffs on the electric. It has clean/distortion & an AC adaptor.

    Don't Expect Too Much...

Comments about Rogue G5 5W Battery-Powered Guitar Combo Amp:

Usable power on "distort" only, but can be adjusted to a fairly clean sound. A simple reverb would help make this a handier unit.
Got this as "Stupid Deal" and didn't expect too much. I was not wrong. The $19.95 price is about what it is worth. Only by using the "distort" button do you get any volume at all. If it is on "clean" the guitar is louder than the amp at full volume (using a powered pre-amp acoustic/electric).
That said -- the little amp is ok for what it is.
I use it with a Zoom A4 to get some reverb/chorus. The portability and battery power feature is its strength.
    Seems well made and durable.
    See above.

Comments about Rogue G5 5W Battery-Powered Guitar Combo Amp:

Quality construction, built like a mini-tank, excellent fit/finish and a general wide range of musical tones in a teeny package that runs either AC or DC. Works well with piezo or magnetic pickups, pedal friendly portable to a fault. I find nothing to not like about this little amp, it was far more than I expected and that is a pleasant way to be surprised anymore. It's no Marshall stack and it won'y be heard with a show drummer but it does what it was made for exceedingly well. This is a GREAT value in a sub compact amp.
for a little El Cheapo amp you get volume/tone/gain and an OD button. The gain is very interactive with the volume, surprisingly the tone pot has an effective range, as much gain as you'd ever need on tap. The features are what I'd expect on a more costly amp and a treat on this little beast. The 9v option is a real bonus as well, take this little dude anywhere. I can see a real use for this little amp as anyplace I'd use an acoustic I cab now take an take an electric. Hard to believe but pedals sound really good through this litte terror.
Hands down the construction is way over the top for the ducats your spending.I have several mini amps and this is a real gem amongst them. At the price point it's pretty unbeatable. The pots are smooth and not scratchy at all. The battery box is really 1st class, fit and funcion of the cab and componets are really beyond the cost. The little speaker is crisp and articulate.
No question this is way more than the little plastic 9v amps one is used to. With the gain turned down it has a really good clean sound that is plenty loud enoungh to keep up with an acoustic. I have been playing a cigar box guitar through it and it sounds terriffic, a little compression and chorus mwah! It is a bargin. If you are looking for a small, portable amp look no further this is a great little amp for an outstanding price point.

G5 5Watt battery poawered combo Amp

Comments about Rogue G5 5W Battery-Powered Guitar Combo Amp:

    This is a good value.
I recieved the well packed G5 and immediately opened it. Mind you, it's not a huge amp, it's a portable battery powered amp, so it doesn't have a lot of features. However it does have a Gain control, Volume control and tone control. It also has a simple overdrive switch. The sound is more than what you'd expect for the price, however it is a small practice amp so it isn't going to compete with the big boys in tone. What it does offer is just fine though for practice and it is fun to mess with. I tried out my one pedal that I use consistently, a compressor and the pedal did what it's supposed to and the amp did what it's supposed to. This amp is a good value for the money.
    It's nicely finished and solid.
Good little amp for little money.
