As a classical guitarist who plays mostly weddings and corporate events, I often play outdoors. Many occasions I have had to stretch over 100' of extension cord across a manicured garden, sometimes tricky to hide, and hardly ideal. On a recent trip to New Orleans I spotted the Cube Street for the first time, then began to notice that every guitar-playing street musician was using one. Some were sitting on them, and several of the units showed great signs of outer wear which did not affect the sound. I really was impressed by the sound that a battery-powered unit could deliver - I'd stumbled upon a solution.
The day after mine arrived I played 2 gigs - an outdoor wedding (2 hours) and a restaurant (1-1/2 hours) on battery power. I had already played at the house on battery power for about 2 hours.
My wife, a singer, and my son, a gifted bass player, both commented that the sound quality of the Cube Street is very good. Certainly I had to tinker with the controls to optimize the tone I was looking for. Objectively, I am quite accustomed to the richer bass response of my primary acoustic amp, which I intend to continue using at indoor gigs. But for my upcoming outdoor gigs, the Roland Cube Street - a fine balance of tone, volume, and portability - will be at every one.
Be advised there is no volume control for the auxiliary input for MP3 players. When using this jack, volume must be regulated from the MP3 player or Aux device. Alternatively, you can use a 1/4" adapter and plug into the the mic channel, and use the volume/tone controls for that channel, so a non-issue.

Sound quality and loudness are great for vocal and guitar. I can see where this light weight, battery powered amp would be a fine choice for many for just this reason. However, I returned the cube because the effects were very disappointing to me. They can't be used in moderation for enhancement. The chorus effect might be OK for band work, but for a soloist it destroys the punch and sense of authenticity because it is set to dominate the sound, and it lacks the richness that a musician has come to expect in this era. Also, I play thumb bass parts, and this amp has no low end thump. My budget priced powered speaker does a much more credible job.

Comments about Roland CUBE Street Battery Powered Stereo Guitar Combo Amp:

Sound quality is equivalent to a high quality boom box...which is not bad...don't expect too much from 6.5" speakers. That being said...one can easily distinguish between amped classical, jazz archtop, or straight solid body electric...very nice. On board effects are excellent. Delay/reverb are the only effects for second vocal/instrument mic jack...disappointing, but not the end of the world. There are jacks for effects foot switches on the back. Sold seperately of course.

Comments about Roland CUBE Street Battery Powered Stereo Guitar Combo Amp:

The main reason I first bought this amplifier was it's small size and light weight. I was really tired of dragging heavy amps with me to play at various venues such as nursing homes, restaurants, etc. This little amp did not disappoint me in any category. On one occasion, I played for a Cracker Barrel restaurant and had no trouble being heard throughout the facility. Quality of the acoustic sound was excellent. This was surprising since I was playing a Taylor GS Mini with an after market sound hole pickup. I love the light weight of this unit, the sound quality and the fact you can use a mere 6 penlight batteries for many hours of play time. Audience response has always been very positive when I use this little amplifier. Several old time Georgia guitar pickers have admired this unit and asked me lots of questions when I've used it on many occasions. I play both acoustic and electric guitars through this unit with excellent results.

Really love this amp. It's perfect for rehearsal and house concerts. I really wish it had at least a 1/4 inch out in mono or stereo outs so that I could use it as a monitor on stage and take advantage of the electronics it provides to use during a performance. You can mic it... but that could lead to feedback if using it as a monitor.

Comments about Roland CUBE Street Battery Powered Stereo Guitar Combo Amp:

Just got it this afternoon so only been playing with it for a few hours, but so far it's everything I expected and more.

The thing is built like a tank. Other than knocking a knob off it will be tough to hurt. If weight is any indication there are quality components inside. Have not noticed any hum or extraneous noises, but really wasn't expecting any on a battery operated amp. Have not tried the AC adapter and probably won't. Can't attest to battery life, but unless your playing in a nudist colony it can't be too hard to find a place to store 6 AA bats. Back to the knobs thing, Roland even thought of that because the whole control panel is recessed so the knobs are below the surface level of the amp. I'd go into all the functions, but that's been pretty well covered by the product description and previous reviews.

Noticed in a previous review the design of the control panel was such that the controls appeared to be upside down during use. It's the same for me. I normally play with the amp in front of me facing away. And in that configuration they are upside down. Not a big deal, but it's there. I'm sure there's a reason.

All in all it appears to be a great amp. Yeah, it's a bit pricey compared to some, but I think the value is there. I'd buy it again.

Comments about Roland CUBE Street Battery Powered Stereo Guitar Combo Amp:

I have been using my Cube Street for four years regularly. It is an extremely dependable unit, delivers true acoustic tone, has wonderful and easily usable effects and can be brought anywhere...even impromptu street gigs without electrical access. I carry it in the original box, which has held up all this time. The controls are on the top of the unit, which makes them easy to access from my sitting position while I play. I set the amp up on a chair and the controls are within arms' reach. Remarkably clear acoustic guitar and vocals, simultaneously. I cannot speak highly enough about the quality of this small unit. I have entertained a group of 100 easily with Roland Cube Street and have NEVER had one single problem with it. It has a lot of power for being so small and also has stereo sound, especially noticeable with chorus. Buy it and have a great time performing!!

OK, so I perform at many assisted living facilities in my area. Sometimes on the fly they ask me to go outside or to a new room where it is hard to plug in. This little marvel goes forever on 6 AA batteries, sounds great, and best of all--no need for cords that can likely cause the residents to trip, hence my comment about taking the worry out of being close. It sounds as good as my Fishman loudbox mini, weighs less, has more features and is easy to use. I also play outside at Farmer's markets, etc. Plenty of volume for small outside venues where you need to be heard but don't want to overwhelm the area.
