This little bugger seems to like single coils a lot better than humbuckers. Humbuckers just seem to overpower it a bit. With a SD equipped guitar, at 5 it was hitting it's limit, any more and it became just a mess of noise. But around 5 was perfect, nice and crunchy. But it's sort of limited in that area. With singles, I could crank it to 10 and get a good OD, but honestly for what it is I should've expected that. The small speaker just ain't got the air moving ability a larger one has, but I can't dog it for doing what it does. I needed a late night amp so I could hear myself and this delivers and sounds pretty good for such a small amp. For me, it's worth every penny.

I got one of these because I was going to my Dad's house for a week and there was no way I could haul my 70 lb. vintage Marshall with me. He would have freaked at the sound anyway. This so-called amp doesn't have any tone, the volume works through the volume knob on your guitar, it doesn't have any knobs or features, and since it doesn't plug directly into the guitar, you have to find a place to set it down and a cable to connect it with your guitar, which in my opinion is a serious drawback. There's also a ton of fuzz and distortion and noise, so tune up before you plug in, although the signal to noise ratio is so poor that it may not make that much of a difference. The only good things that can be said about it are that it's small enough to hide in your case or purse, and it's louder than you'd think for the size. Parents hate it! It's loud enough that my Dad said, "Turn that down!"I'd say, skip this one and get something else unless this is the only small "amp" you can find, and you have to leave tomorrow to go someplace where you can't take a real amp. Good for annoying your parents, not good for much else.

Comments about Smokey Amp Mini Amp:
Maybe I recieved a dud and this actually a great product, I don't know. All I can say is the one I recieved was absolute garbage. The sound quality was absolutely horrible even for a mini amp and there was almost no volume. Tried putting in a fresh battery with no joy. I bought a mini amp at the military exchange for half the cost that sounded a thousand times better.

hI - I have 2 of these little guys and here's how I use them --- buy a 1/4 to 1/4 inch SOLID adapter used to plug stomp boxes together - insert into amp and now you have a usable UNIT without having to use a cable! This works best for "sitting down" if you use a SG or STRAT style guitar as you plug into the front of the guitar....... I have my practice guitar w/ strap on a wall hanger, and when I want to,I just put the adapter in the amp and insert into guitar and I'm good to go!!!! Simple and portable - hope this helps! ....... a rubber band for storage & travel.......... PRAY
Comments about Smokey Amp Mini Amp:
The only thing that's missing is a clip on the back. Now that would be useful, if I want to attach the amp to my pants pocket.
Other than that, the Smokey is what it is. And I wouldn't have it any other way.
Yes, some reviewers have said negative comments about the Smokey Amp. But for a $25 piece of equipment that can fit in your shirt pocket, I think it works great.
Let's be clear -- this isn't a Marshall stack or a Fender Twin reverb. But this little baby is perfect if I wanna play my electric guitar on the porch or at the beach. As a touring musician, it's also helpful if I want to practice in my hotel room, without driving the neighbors bonkers.
Comments about Smokey Amp Mini Amp:
Although this thing is tiny and well made, the sound that it puts out is terrible at any volume. I picked this Mini after reading reviews and I should have paid better attention to the bad reviews. The Low E, A and D strings make this thing crackle and pop, They are pretty much unplayable. The G,B,E sound like you are choking a cat.... All in all, waste of time and money.
Comments about Smokey Amp Mini Amp:
As others have mentioned, don't crank the guitar too much. When I first plugged it in, I hated it, then I backed off the volume. It is a good little practice amp for playing around the house. I use cable straps to hold it on my guitar strap. I like it.

Comments about Smokey Amp Mini Amp:
THis little amp is great. It sound like an old sixties marshall tube amp and it is only slightly bigger than a pack of cigarettes. It has warm and gritty overdrive nd sweet cleans ( it's all a matter of your volume knob and pickups). it's loud for its size and it has no buttons or knobs just putting the cable jack into it turns it on. It has a fairly balanced EQ with low midrange wich you get by strumming in the middle of the guitar, so it's no big deal for metalheads. It is a fantastic value, a U.S.A. made amp that sounds so great for onle $25.00. The battery that comes with it is a alkaline battery and it lasts about 20 hours of playing, my rechargeable NiMh 9 volts last twice as long. It's great and you need to buy it!

Nice amount of volume!...But it's all about distortion. No Clean setting so it's going back!
