The Vox chime quickly turns to a gritty overdriven beast when this amp is put through its paces. It more than fills my living room with sound.
As others have said, this amp loves pedals. I was wanting some reverb, so I got an Earthquaker Devices Dispatch Master to broaden the spaciousness of the amp. It's a perfect pairing. The warble of an MXR Analog Chorus makes this amp do amazing things.
I picked the AC4 with an open box discount, so I paid a discounted price for an amp that looks and sounds brand new.
I'd love an AC-15, but have no need for it given the size of our house. Even at 4 watts, this amp more than meets my needs. Don't hesitate if you're in the market for a small practice amp for your house or studio!

I was looking for a small, portable tube amp that I could use at small room gigs. I came across the VOX AC4 at GC and thought I found a winner. For the price I jumped on it. Once I got it home and plugged it in it didn't sound nearly as good as it did in the store. I'm not getting those warm tube tones that I craved. I haven't had a chance to play out with it yet so this review may be a bit premature, but I'm seriously thinking of returning it and spending a little more for a Blues Jr. I realize that the Vox is only 4 watts compared to 15 of the jr., but there is just no comparison in my opinion when it comes it comes to sound and volume. If you're looking for a practice amp that's also a head turner then this is your amp. I'm not sure it will handle live gigs as well as expected.

Comments about Vox AC4C1-BL 4W 1x10 All-Tube Mini Guitar Combo Amp with Top Boost:

Stunning looking amp. This is not an AC4 with blue tolex. It has 2 x 12AX7s, not one like the AC4. This means more gain. It also has gain, bass, and treble controls. No wacky attenuator, which was just a few giant resistors in the AC4. It has a 16 ohm Celestion with a large ceramic magnet. Using the speaker jack disables the internal speaker. Tone is clear to about half way up on the volume control, then you get some nice tube break up. Cranking the gain up produces a different kind of distortion, less compressed. Cranking the gain and volume, get some ear plugs! It never sounds muddy, but can be weak with single coils, so use humbuckers, crsnk the bass up and be amazed. Input jack on mine feels like it could break at any time.

Comments about Vox AC4C1-BL 4W 1x10 All-Tube Mini Guitar Combo Amp with Top Boost:

The Vox AC4C1 is a killer little amp. The master volume, treble and bass controls make this amp a great improvement over its recent predecesor (AC4TV). Due to its size this amp lacks low end. It sounds best with humbuckers. With the gain set low and the master way up you can achieve British Invasion type chime and shimmer. With the gain cranked you'll hear the solo tones of the great Brit-Blues masters. For the price you're getting a lot of amp.

Comments about Vox AC4C1-BL 4W 1x10 All-Tube Mini Guitar Combo Amp with Top Boost:

I love this amp. I always play shows with my amp mic'd up, so loudness is not an issue. What this amp delivers is tone. Total tone. Even through the 10" speaker, it sounds awesome. There's plenty of variety of sounds from clean all the way though smooth overdrive. It doesn't matter where you set the tone controls, it will sound great. It responds great to changes in the guitar and loves pedals. I couldn't ask for more at this price!

            • Tones Big Amps Can't Get

Comments about Vox AC4C1-BL 4W 1x10 All-Tube Mini Guitar Combo Amp with Top Boost:

It's uses are only limited by your imagination and the amount of support gear you've got. Small gigs, just go bareback. it's plenty loud enough, since a good drummer will tone down for small places anyway. For larger gigs, mic through the mains.

I enjoy the simplicity. Just set the volume and tone where you want them, (I like the volume almost pegged and the tones set high) Then use the guitar controls to tweek tone and distortion. There's hardly ever any need to fool with the amp controls.

It's really fun with a pedal board. A boost or preamp pedal will send the tone to that wild, hard to find place that most amps will never let you experience, even with weak pickups or a light handed playing style. Of course the usuals like reverb, delay and phaser are a must too, and they sound great with this amp. Can't tell you why, but try one and you'll hear it right away.

Every guitar player should have this amp or something very similar, just for the simple ease of use and tone drenched playability, and nevermind that it looks just cool as hell.

Comments about Vox AC4C1-BL 4W 1x10 All-Tube Mini Guitar Combo Amp with Top Boost:

Got this on the SDOTD a week or so ago and man, I'm glad I did! I've been a Fender amp devotee for some time, Playing a PRRI (and still love it), but there are some sounds I just couldn't coax from it. Particularly, that chimey 60's sound (think "Son of a Preacher Man" or "Circular Story" from the Man from Uncle soundtrack). While the Princeton is great on stage, playing it at pleasing volume to me at home is not so pleasing to the wife. I thought about getting a pedal to try emulating a Vox tone and BAM, this pops up! I'd had the AC4 TV some years back and it didn't impress me enough to keep it. This one has separate treble and bass (and it's gorgeous) so I figured what the heck.

That missing sound I can't get from the PRRI is here in spades! With separate volume and gain knobs, I can put the overall loudness where I want and have a blast. The tone stack operates very differently than what I'm used to, but it's a welcome change that leaves me smiling. Sounds great with my Tele, but oh boy did it bring life out of my Gibson Midtown P90, which I never cared for through the Fender. No onboard effects, but I've got a combo tremolo/reverb pedal coming to give this all the vintage vibe I need! I haven't used it live yet, but it would definitely have to be mic'd up to the PA.

I don't understand the negative reviews related to "underpowered " or "lack of options" related to this amp. If you got a bad one okay, but the description plainly tells us it's a 4 watt amp with a 10" speaker and no effects. If you buy this thinking you're going to play on a stage unmic'd, the joke was on you from the get go. Rate it for what it is, already. And what it is is a great sounding (and looking), low wattage vintage vibed British toned amp for a home or studio application.

I picked this little guy up for live gigs. I wanted something small, light, and tube - and that's what I got! Mics real good, and a few pedals make it come alive. Pretty cool. Obviously, with one ten, it's not going to give much bass punch. But it sits in the mix real well.

Nice, quality tube amp. Tried both the 10" and 12" speaker combo's. Preferred the 10 to the 12 because of the tonal qualities and better breakup. Handles pedals very well. Just a great little amp with a surprising power and tone.
