OVERVIEW

It's retro, it's chic, it's all-tube and it's all VOX.

Way back in 1961, VOX rolled out the AC4 amplifier. Nearly 50 years later, VOX is pleased to announce the AC4TV—the all-tube practice amp with remarkable self control. This up-to-date Class A version retains the distinctive EL84 power tube of the original AC4 amp and features a 12AX7 powered pre-amp, all driving a custom-made Celestion 10" speaker. The sophisticated sound is unmistakably VOX, delivering that distinctively British top-end tone.

Simple and sexy, the AC4TV wears its pedigree proudly. The cabinetry features the same TV-front design first used on the classic 1958 AC15, and still in use on today's AC15H1TV Heritage Series. One of the challenges confronting an all-tube amp is retaining a full tone at lower volumes. To solve this issue, the AC4TV features a built-in power attenuator, with 4W, 1W, and 1/4W output levels—ensuring you never lose that classic tube tone, even at the lowest listening levels.

The AC4TV also adds a 16-ohm speaker output, allowing you to add an additional cabinet and state your sonic signature with authority.

FEATURES
  • Affordable all-valve design
  • Switchable output levels: 4W, 1W, and 1/4W output
  • Quality vintage VOX styling

I upgraded the tubes in this already great little amp from the stock Sovteks to NOS General Electric JAN tubes. The difference is profound. I use the amp as a head for a 1 x 12 cabinet (which began its life as a Jet City - an excellent cabinet) loaded with a Celestion G12 "Blue". For the price of the amp, tubes, speaker, cabinet and yard of Marshall Bluesbreaker grill cloth (all <$1000.00), I have a setup that looks great, has a built-in attenuator for home use and recording, is loud enough for small combo jams and can be mic-ed for club use, and sounds better than many boutique amps that cost much more. I really don't see myself ever needing anything else; to my ears, I've found my perfect tone.

Features-3 I love the power selector so you can pick your volume but that is the only feature- everything else is vanilla. Quality-2.5 the first one I got didnt work but the second one did. It is a nice expensive looking amp though.Value-5 It is an all tube amp with a warm sound for $250Overall-3 Why, because while I wasn't expecting any Slayer-like overdrive I was at least expecting some 70's classic rock crunch but the overdrive is pretty tame so why have a tube amp if you are going to end up using a pedal on it anyways???Bottomline this is a great amp if you don't live past 8 on the volume knob because the 10 on this amp is an 8 on most others. I think I may send this one back as well and stick with my old Fender practice amp. Nice warm amp though.

Comments about Vox AC4TV 4W 1x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

The Vox AC4TV amps up your sound with ballsy tone and attitude. Controls are dead simple. From 1/4 watts to 4, you can get pretty much anything you want. It makes my Gretsch Corvette sing, my Ibanez artcore semi-hollow body sound great and my strat clone sound better than it looks. It's new, so the tone gets a bit ragged as the volume goes up. I tamed it with an xotic xp compressor, and a reverb pedal. Turning the volume down on my neck pickup gives me jazz tones, turning it up and switching to the bridge pickup makes it growl. If you prefer not to spend countless hours tweaking digital controls and modeling devices and rather just play yer guitar, get this amp. This amp replaces both my digital practice amp and my "play it louder" 22w tube amp with the zillion tweak knobs. It also jacks into a speaker cab for larger sound. I use it at 4w to go into an 8 ohm 16" speaker cab and it rocks. Don't know how it plays at large venues, but expect to have to mic it if you go there with it.

Comments about Vox AC4TV 4W 1x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

A few years ago, after having had a few really disappointing practice amps, I came across the Vox AC4TV in the local Guitar Center. It sounded great, so I scraped the money together and took it home. I just love this little amp. It is a tough, extremely honest, amplifier, with myriads of great tones at all wattages and volumes. I plug my Tele directly in, and just can't believe how good this little guy sounds! I happen to love the Vox sound, so, despite having a great old Mesa MkIII purple stripe in the same room, this is the amp I'm usually jacked in to. I've had it for a little over 3 years now, and notice that, over time, the sound of the amp has just gotten creamier and more complex. The Celestion 10" breaks in very nicely, if a bit slowly. I remember being annoyed for a minute when I first got the amp home due to a bit of boxiness in the sound, but that went away quickly. This amp moves beautifully from the bedroom to the stage, and I have no problem recommending it to anyone.

Comments about Vox AC4TV 4W 1x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

A great amp for the small price. With a power attenuator to select the output level you can achieve gritty tones at lower volumes. I would say this is a great amp for someone who is looking to see what the fuss is about with tube amps versus solid state amps.

This is a Vox product so for the most part it is good quality. However, !DO NOT! change the power output setting while the amp is on. The one that my friend has (the one that I'm basing this review on) died after less than a years use... Granted, he had changed the tubes and speaker himself - Voiding the warranty.

Great value for an amp that you can use an extension cab with. I ran it through a 1x12 cab in cooperation with the 1x10 in it and it sounded so much bigger and better. It's hard to find the headroom with such a low ceiling in this thing but it gets a great boxy tone if that's what you're looking for.

Comments about Vox AC4TV 4W 1x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I have been using the AC4 for once a week rehearsals for my 7 piece funk band. After 3 months I have had no issues. Because the drummer is quiet I can run the volume between 4 and 5. It takes all 4 pedals very well: Boss Phaser, Guyatone Funky Box(envelope filter), Ibanez TS9, and VOX wah. It sounds tighter and more focused than the Marshall Class5 and the Fender Blues Junior. It has a closed back sound that I have never heard before in a combo amp. I love it. And the triple stitched red-gold-green diamond pattern on the grill cloth is sweet.

I purchased the AC4 2 years ago. At the time I had no rehearsal studio so I could only run the amp on 1/4 watt in my living room. 6 months later I was finally able to run it full bore and realized that it had a bad preamp tube. It came with Ruby's. I upgraded the 12AX7 to a Groove Tube Gold Series and have had no issues since. The stock power tube is still in it and sounds great. The stock speaker is still in it and sounds great also.

If you collect low wattage tube amps this is a must have. And if you move it around a lot, get the padded cover for it - it's inexpensive and the gold embroiderd VOX logo looks amazing.

I love this amp. I own an ac15. For one booking I played at, I did not have a way to take my own amp, so i had to use the 8" ac4 available. I Loved it!! It sounded great, didn't have to be cranked, and looked freakin adorable!! It sounded great, pretty much like my ac15, and took my pedals really well. My friend recently ordered the 10" one, and it plays even better, and it sounds like there might be a little more headroom. Bottom line, if you play jazz, blues, or worship and need an amp with in a certain budget, look no further!!

I purchased this amp about 6 months ago and man does it sing. I was looking for a little amp to use teaching my lessons and so I bought this little beauty. Man after I got this home I found myself bringing out to gig after gig and being more and more impressed with it's sound.

If your plan to mic your amp this is all the volume you will need. And with a few mods this amp will be more than enough for you to practice at home and bring to the gig.

Trust me pull the trigger on this one...you won't be disappointed.

                product failure

                By Michael Rivard

                from Seattle Washington USA

Comments about Vox AC4TV 4W 1x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

Mine failed in 6 months of lite use. It was overheating with a guitar effects box (zoom G3) and I exchanged that for the Vox Tonelab ST effects box. That helped a little until the amp died. I put in new tubes and checked the fuses and it's still dead, even if the power light shines. To top it off Vox ignores requests for warranty service, I waited the alloted 72 hours and no reply, and no reply to follow up. There must be something wrong using this Vox amp with an amp modeller / effects box. It looks like a loss and I'm going to shop around for a replacement.
I like the simple control plate, it does not have bells and whistles. It looks good.
The tubes seem kind of on the cheap end, they are Slovtek. There is not much attention to detail on the exterior or interior. I'm sure it was assembled in a hurry. The sound is not all that amazing and it's quite hard to put it in overdrive as is.
Got it here at a good price.

Comments about Vox AC4TV 4W 1x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I gave it a 9 for the reason of the low E and A string get muddy alot. (Mostly E) This amp is varry divers for a $250.00 tube. I run a Maxon Od9 Pro Plus in to mine. It really brings it to life and opens it up. The natural Over drive on the amp is nice but i find after you turn the vol nob past about 4 oclock it starts to get a little icky... But with the Maxon i can push it with vol at about 10-11 oclock and achive nice clear, thick, full bodyed distortion. I love this little amp, its nice and compact, good for travle, and you dont need to do more than turn it on and plug in to achive beautifuil vintage vox tone. This amp is hard to make sound bad.
Master Tone. Master Vol. 4-1-1/4 wat slecter. Lovely sounding tubes. Closed back.
                Sturdy caseing,
$250.00 for a nice warm sounding tube amp that you can get nice cleat over drive from allowing you to play classic Hendrix to jazz and blues. Cant beat it.
