OVERVIEW

Great Vox metal tone you can take anywhere.

Offering the easiest way to enjoy true analog amplifier sound in your headphones, the amPlug series has been a bestseller since it first appeared in 2007.

With amPlug 2, the crucial analog circuit has been drastically improved, and each model now provides three modes. Guitar types provide multi-effect functionality, and a rhythm function has been added to the bass type. A foldable plug mechanism that rotates 180 degrees and an auto power-off function are additional features that contribute significantly to improved convenience and ease of use.

The amPlug is the simplest way to get serious sound; occupying virtually no space, it's an ideal choice for any guitarist or bassist.

Plug the amPlug into your guitar and enjoy serious sound. It's that simple.
To use the palm-sized amPlug, just plug it into your guitar and grab your headphones. Playing your guitar or bass with amPlug results in serious amp sound that's overflowing with presence. A wide range of variation is available, as the lineup consists of four models: "AC30" provides the AC30 top-boost sound, "Classic Rock" gives you the classic crunch sound of a UK-made 100W amp, "Metal" delivers the extreme high-gain sound of a US-made amp, and "Bass" is designed specifically for bass.

A completely analog design accurately simulates the circuits of classic tube amplifiers, resulting in a rich, detailed sound.

While retaining the fully analog multi-stage gain circuit, additional refinements have been made toward reproducing the sound and performance of real tube amps. These refinements include factors such as reproducing the way a tube amp responds to different guitars, pickups, and volume as well as recreating the sense of air movement within the speaker cabinet. As a result, the carefully selected circuit structure and components of the new amPlug delivers a more highly evolved sound.

Nine selectable effects provide a great range of sonic variation
The second-generation amPlug adds a variety of new functions. To give you more variety, each amp provides three modes. "AC30" provides use of a tremolo circuit, "Classic Rock" features a mid-boost, "Metal" gives you mid-cut and "Bass" allows the amount of gain to be switched. The three guitar-type models also provide nine selectable effects with three types of Chorus, Delay and Reverb, while "Bass" contains nine different rhythm patterns. With versatile sound and functionality that is uncommon of such a compact unit, these models enable you to get even more serious about your guitar or bass playing.

Foldable plug that rotates 180 degrees
The plug that you insert into your guitar can rotate in five steps up to 180 degrees, enabling it to be adjusted for optimal visibility. This design also allows even more compact storage in your guitar's case or gig bag.

Auto power-off function ensures longer battery life
We've added a function that automatically turns off the power even, if you leave the unit with the power on. Since this function works by detecting operations or audio signals within a certain length of time (30 minutes), it has absolutely no effect on normal use. This feature further enhances the convenience of the amPlug.

amPlug is the most convenient way to play
With the amPlug providing up to 17 hours of battery-powered operation, you'll be able to play anytime and anywhere. Since there's no need for a guitar cable, it's a great way of practicing at home, or warming up before a live performance or while on tour. Also, there's an AUX in jack for your MP3 player, so you can jam along with your favorite songs.

Highlights
No need for a guitar cable! Plug it directly into your guitar; the latest version of this headphone guitar amp is the fastest way to get authentic amplifier sound.
The fully-analog circuit has been totally reworked for an even clearer and more present sound!
"Metal" gives you the extreme high-gain sound of a US-made amp.
Each model provides three amp modes, giving you even more variety.
Nine selectable effects (Chorus x 3, Delay x 3, Reverb x 3) are built into the guitar-type models.
A multi-stage gain circuit featuring VOX's proprietary analog technology perfectly reproduces the complex distortion created by a vacuum tube amplifier.
New folding plug mechanism rotates 180 degrees to fit any guitar
Play anytime, anywhere with up to 17 hours of battery life
Use the AUX input to jam along with your smartphone, tablet, or MP3 player

This item sounds very good, was very pleased when I powered it on. It has three settings for the gain structure, so one should be able to find a setting to fit their particular style by using the gain structure, gain level and tone controls. I was pretty surprised by the sound, expected little and got something alot more.

The effects seem pretty good, there are three settings for each (chorus, delay and reverb) - though I only use the delay (setting 2 of the three for delay). Switching the effects is done in sequence, so you have to cycle through all to get to 'off' and cycle back to where you were to have what you want 'on'. Not a big deal.

Battery life seems decent, this thing is pretty loud - I have not turned it up beyond ~5. I'm sure if you're cranking it all the way the battery life will decrease. I've got about 8 hours on a new set of Duracells and they still seem strong, about half the time is with delay.

For what it is, this is a great thing to have. I don't think I would track with it, but it's got a great sound for practicing or warming up. I have not used the AUX in to see how another input sounds on it yet, however - it is there if you want it.

My only gripe would be that when it folds, the knobs are too easily adjusted by accidental contact, so use a stool or stand.

Cheap

This broke within 48 hrs of receiving it. I did not drop it. The weight of my guitar ON A BED snapped off the cheap plastic housing.

Comments about Vox amPlug 2 Metal Guitar Headphone Amp:

This is a great device for practicing. It's powerful enough to blow up your headphones (if you so desire). I never turn it past 5. It provides good metal crunch without any fuss. My only issue, and it's a small one, is it does tend to flop around a little while you play. No biggie.

Comments about Vox amPlug 2 Metal Guitar Headphone Amp:

I use this with both headphones and the Vox speaker cube that was designed to go with it. The sound through headphones is reasonable, less so through the tiny speaker in the cube. For me, the best thing about the amp in the headphone mode is that you can play you guitar at any volume you want (within reason) and not disturb anyone else.

Really cool device for composing, practicing or just rocking out in your living room without someone telling you to stop. The tones and various effects work well. It is built cheaply but then it sells for a cheap price. I have no idea whether it would work in a live or studio environment but I tend to think not.

Comments about Vox amPlug 2 Metal Guitar Headphone Amp:

This is a serious upgrade from the first Metal model. The tone is amazing and I mean that truly. The effects are mighty. Mid-scoop ability is great to have as there's not only one Metal style.

I prefer to use the first mid-scooped sound for old-school sounds ala Metallica's "...And Justice For All".

The second scooped sound veers into modern Metal styles and works best with the gain maxed out IMO.

The tube amp and speaker simulation are impressive. It's my favorite feature of this amp. I just can't believe it. :-)

        Great purchase.

Comments about Vox amPlug 2 Metal Guitar Headphone Amp:

Somewhat annoying to go through and find the right effect, as nothing is labled, and you hit one button a series of times to cycle through. Also the amount of time you hold said button down changes the intensity of the effect, so that can get frustrating, but it's a design they had to utilize, as there is no led display, and not enough room for many knobs and buttons.
Sound is decent. Tone and gain control with different distortion settings, and a series of effects that can be applied to each.
Great for practice, or plug right in to a recording interface.
The design is not perfect for those who have their input jack on the bottom of the guitar, as it is hard to reach to change settings, and poses a problem with getting in the way of what your sitting on when you sit and play. Even though it is swivel adjustable, it sticks out uncomfortably, with the danger of hitting it on things and damaging it, and your jack input.
Overall a great little amp for the money.

Comments about Vox amPlug 2 Metal Guitar Headphone Amp:

For practice, it has a solid distortion tone (no clean tone on this guy) with three mid settings. All of them are a little too scooped for my tastes, but I do like a lot of mids in my tone. It reminds me of a Rectifier in tone.

It's definitely nice to be able to practice anywhere near-silently with passable tone. I also like the built in FX (delay, reverb, and chorus), despite them being slightly over-bearing.

It is a little too floppy on guitars with a loose input jack, but that is mostly to the fault of the guitars, not the amp. Another complaint is that it is hard to plug into a speaker and use a reasonable amount of volume without some serious "clipping" noise. I actually bought this to be used with a speaker, so that was a slight disappointment.

All in all, it will appeal to the average Metal guitarist, who just wants to be able to practice quietly anywhere with headphones.

I was very impressed with the performance. It doesn't have as much sound versatility as an amp, but it's not meant to replace an amp. I love it for practice. I plug in the headphones and roam the house as I please. Love the portability. I enjoyed this product so much I ordered another to send to a friend.
