OVERVIEW

Big, high-performance Vox sound with modern versatility.

The two-channel design delivers not only the traditional VOX clean and crunch sounds, but also modern high-gain sounds as well. In any music scene, you'll be able to experience serious full-tube sound any time and in any place. The Night Train G2 adds a new 1x12" 15W combo amp to the lineup. Equipped with a Celestion greenback speaker, it delivers uncompromising full-tube sound. It's a distinctive combo amp with the eye-catching "All Tube Legacy" badge that guarantees this unit to be a full-tube amp built in the VOX tradition.

Traditional VOX all-tube sound
VOX's traditional tube sound is alive and well on the Night Train G2 1x12" 15W combo. The class AB design delivers awesome power, with a preamp containing three 12AX7 tubes and a power amp containing two EL38 tubes.

Girth/Bright two-channel design provides a wide range of tonal character
Each model offers up two channels with a differing tonal character: Girth and Bright. The Girth channel has a powerful modern high-gain sound that's unparalleled even among VOX amps. It's also ideal for the guitarist who seeks an even heavier sound. The Bright channel provides VOX's distinctive clean/crunch sounds and also features a Thick mode that bypasses the tone control circuit and boosts the gain to obtain a thicker tone, achieving a rich variety of tonal character. An optional VFS2A foot switch can be used to switch between the two channels with your foot, for convenience during your live performances.

Excellent expandability
For the guitarist who seeks more originality, the Night Train G2 series provides send/return jacks that are a convenient way to connect an external effect unit to your amp. You can easily connect your favorite effect units without impairing the potential of the Night Train G2, dramatically expanding your sound-shaping possibilities. A high-quality reverb has been added to all models, letting you obtain a broad variety of sounds without needing to involve any other equipment.

Comments about Vox NT15C1 Night Train G2 15W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Black:

I would like to give an honest review since there isn't much user information out yet on these fantastic amps. I've always been a huge fan of the classic Vox sound and always wanted an all tube amp. People are quick to put this amp down for not sounding like it's big brothers. I find this amp to bit a bit brighter than an AC15, more likey it's due to the partially open cab. This amp has an incredible tonal range that requires a lot of tweaking to get classic Vox sounds. It's the type of amp you need to have the patience to dial in, but definitely worth the effort. I was a little bummed at first about digital reverb, but Vox had done a really good job with it and it doesn't sound digital. Only when cranked to the max it sounds a little unnatural, but I rarely play like that so it's not a big deal. I figured they went digital to save on space. The gain is where this amp gets criticized the most. It's a more powerful overdrive that is very different sounding than traditional Top Boost at first. While the "girth" switch is engaged I find it best to turn the bass and treble down low and turn the mid up high. I roll back on the gain and turn the tone on my guitar down low. The "dark" switch also tones it down to reach that sweet spot. This gives me the traditional Vox Top Boost sound you would get from an AC15/30 with that powerful Brian May like crunch. Overdriving the amp on it's own with the "bright" and "thick" switches engaged also gives it that classic Vox crunch. The option for more modern type gains is there as well. Many people find using a boost pedal gives the amp a much more powerful overdrive. The cleans are heavenly and the partially open cab gives the Celestion Greenback a very chimey sound. I don't find it necessary to upgrade the speaker, but I would be curious to hear how this amp would sound with an Alnico Blue. I bought this amp on sale and was very lucky to get the limited edition. This amplifier will satisfy fans old and new.

Comments about Vox NT15C1 Night Train G2 15W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Black:

So, the Night Train G2 Combo has very few reviews out there. I recently purchased one and let me tell you it's awesome. A pure tone machine. If you can't find good tones with this amp you need your hearing checked. The bright channel can go from clean to crunch easily. The thick switch on the bright channel jumps the volume level/gain up, you have to readjust the volume accordingly. I wish the thick has its own volume knob so you could preset the volume to match the normal bright channel.

The grith channel is not your normal Vox gain, more modern. Kind of close to an orange or Marshall type sound. Very good ol school blues tones can be found at the lower gain settings. Upper gain setting give that rock tone your looking for.

The eq section is very interactive and responsive to the slightest changes. Very dynamic.

I have a wide variety of guitars and find that with hot pickups this amp will break up easily depending on how hard the strings are not. With bright tele pickups there is a dark switch which will help tame those pickups. I find the reverb just fine, others may complain about it being digital but I think it is good at low to medium settings.

I find this amp to be excellent in terms of quality fit and finish. The sound can go from a close AC15 tone to raw blues. This is not an AC15/AC30 and is more fender like on cleans and more heavier tones on grith. I really like the tones.

The only things I would change would be to include a foot switch with the amp and also have it control the reverb in addition to the grith and thick modes. I would also include a dust cover in the deal. The last one would be to have a separate volume knob for the thick setting as the volume jump is pretty great compared to the bright channel.

Overall, this is an excellent amplifier with modern tones but can still pull off the classic sounds. I believe mic'ed it would be great for club gigs. It really packs a lot of value into a small price tag. I would buy this amp agai.

Comments about Vox NT15C1 Night Train G2 15W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Black:

I purchased a used Night Train amp head that sounded great but had no reverb. I had no speaker cab and found that to build my own and add a reverb unit would cost nearly as much as if I bought a new amp, so that's why I bought this with built-in reverb. I have a lap steel that I wanted that old country and Hawaiian sound and this one does it nearly perfectly. But with two channels and other switchable effects, you can get almost any sound you want like crunchy blues. I also bought this because my Bugera 5W system was too weak to be heard with the group I play with. This one seems to have much more power but I haven't played in that situation with it yet to say if it is powerful enough or not. I wish it had 5 or 10 W more power, but as long as people can hear my [not very good] playing I'll be happy. I was disappointed with the owners manual. I know nothing about amplifiers. I look at the stats and compare but that's it. I don't know what bright or thick or gain or other things like that mean. The user manual shows a picture of the controls, with arrows that point to the knob labeled 'volume' or another pointing to the switch that says 'thick' telling me this is the thick switch. When I first turned it on I knew to put in standby to let tubes warm up, but the instructions don't tell you that. After it warmed up though it didn't do a thing. It took me several minutes before I discovered that the Bass knob had to be turned up before you could get sound. Anyway, these are minor things because you figure it out in time and doesn't affect the performance; and most people probably know this already. The weight is such that you can carry it around without much difficulty and that's a good thing. Remembering that I've had this only two weeks I can say that it appears to have good quality and durability.
