OVERVIEW

A new generation of wah that’s true to the original sound and then some

The legendary V846 is back, and it’s better than ever. Introducing the V846-HW, a wah pedal for the tone enthusiast, featuring hand-wired turret board construction and premium components.

VOX created their first wah wah pedal back in the 1960s and guitarists from around the world rushed to embrace it. Now in 2011, the V846 has been reborn as the VOX V846-HW Hand-Wired Wah Wah Pedal. While its classic tone is undeniable, VOX’s V846-HW writes new chapters in the wah book of sound. As its name implies, the V846 Hand Wired boasts hand-wired turret board construction. Every component, including the inductors, resistors, capacitors, and the potentiometer has been carefully selected for premium fidelity and tone, a tone-preserving true bypass was even added to the original design. Outside, the die-cast body features a sandblasted exterior with crepe finish. The V846-HW is a perfect combination of VOX's world-famous technology, with classical yet modern specifications.

Hand Wired Artistry
The hand-wired turret board construction of the V846-HW requires a high level of craftsmanship, technical skill, and precise manual assembly. Labor intensive, this hand-wiring artistry creates an ideal and efficient signal path. Responding to every nuance of the guitarist's touch.

True Bypass
Designed as a premier pedal for the tone purist, the V846-HW provides a true bypass circuit to meet the needs of today's guitarist. Any coloration of the sound or loss in audio quality when the wah function is off has been totally removed.

Vintage-Spec Inductor; Smooth Potentiometer
The VOX V846-HW Hand-Wired Wah Wah pedal uses a specially-voiced vintage-spec Halo type inductor. The carefully selected magnetic core material and winding ensures a perfect reproduction of the original V846's wah sound. The potentiometer features a distinctive response and is sealed for durability. Thanks to a remarkably smooth curve, the region at the very beginning of the pedal's travel – a region difficult for conventional wah pedals – is assured sensitive response with an unprecedentedly fine degree of control.

Premium Components
Carbon composite resistors (made by KAMAYA ELECTRIC CO., LTD) are used for their extremely low noise and uncolored sound. The high-quality footswitch made by Carling Technologies, was selected for both its reliability and its good feel underfoot. The Switchcraft® jacks used are well-known and trusted for their sturdy bushings, simple construction and high reliability. These carefully selected components come together in the amazing VOX V846-HW Hand Wired Wah Wah.

FEATURES
  • Hand-wired turret board construction; premium components used throughout
  • Vintage-spec Halo type inductor; precise control potentiometer; Switchcraft jacks

Comments about Vox V846HW Hand-Wired Wah Wah Guitar Effects Pedal:

The sound is very similar to the V847A. Both pedals have about the same amount of sweep. The V846HW is slightly more warm and subtle.

Comments about Vox V846HW Hand-Wired Wah Wah Guitar Effects Pedal:

Love it. Great tone. No adjustment required. I have had 5 wah wah pedals over the last 25 years and only one was worthy for live performances, and this one is superior in tone. I've only had it a couple of weeks so I can't speak to the durability question - but it is all metal construction and seems very sturdy. I play edgy electric blues, sometimes with a Les Paul, but usually with a Strat; the tone is beautiful whether clean or over-driven. My other wahs have had a dramatic signal cuts in some freq's and the guitar would disappear in the mix. Not this one; it provides a tightened boost thru-out the full sweep that just makes notes and chords thicker. Works well for classic wah wah tunes ala Hendrix and SRV. I'm glad I spent a few extra clams for this one!

Comments about Vox V846HW Hand-Wired Wah Wah Guitar Effects Pedal:

ALL METAL! not plastic like the newer v847a's. (a plus in my book) My pedal was rather stiff right out of the box so I lubricated it with a little grease and wah-lah! loose as a goose and ready to rock. I'm very satisfied with the handwired board and the pot is VERY smooth. The input/output jacks are also very good quality.I will say though that the stock inductor really falls short if you're looking for that original v846 sound.. I modded mine with an Area 51 inductor and now the thing really speaks vintage to my ears. Be warned modding will probably void your warranty, but there's not much that can really go wrong that you couldnt fix yourself anyway. I have also read, for anyone having a problem, there is a grounding issue with these pedals. it causes very strange noises when stepping on the pedal. But that can be easily fixed by roughing up the contact points where the feet screw in.

Comments about Vox V846HW Hand-Wired Wah Wah Guitar Effects Pedal:

I bought this pedal slightly assuming that it would not be the vintage-esque wah so many of us hunt for. I was pleasantly surprised. I was also surprised how much better it was than other wahs i have tried. It isnt just "oh i like the sweep a little more and the sound has a little more wah." its "oh wow, THIS is what a wah feels like.." Wonderful subtle sweep, its lowest setting is exactly were (i at least) would want it to be and its highest is not super treble. It wahs your tone, simple as that. no extreme change in tone, no weird added noises. I have heard built like a tank. i have said certain pedals i have are built like one. this makes them look like they are made of plastic. i honestly think it may be heavier than my strat.

Comments about Vox V846HW Hand-Wired Wah Wah Guitar Effects Pedal:

Ihad the vox 847 for about 11 years and the button finally went on me. i needed a new wah and i've been a vox guy since i was 15, i went on musicians friend and saw a handwired ox. the price threw me off but everyone told me a handwired pedal is worth it so i bought one. it may not have the growl of 847 but is super smooth. the sound is very clear, im using it in a hardcore band right now and those guys were surprised at how killer it sounded. if you are a funk or blues player i strongly recomend it as well. the only bad thing i can say is after spending [$] on the pedal vox didnt give me a battery with it
