Part of the VTX Series, the Valvetronix VT40X is a perfect combination of innovation and tradition. These amps combine sophisticated modeling technology with a multi-stage tube pre-amp circuit to reproduce the unique distortion, touch sensitivity, and the response that is characteristic of classic tube amps. Its unique modeling algorithm actually recreates the analog circuits of some of the most coveted tube amplifiers and allows you to adjust the gain structure and bias of the internal tube in real time. Also, when using certain models, the amp can be switched between Class A and Class AB operation.

The effects section has also been revamped and now offers 12 classic effects based on some of the most iconic stompboxes of all time. These amps also feature a USB port, which allows you to connect the amplifier to their PC, Mac, or iOS device (with optional USB Camera Adapter Kit) and manage programs and customize amps and effects by using VOX’s Tone Room software. The Tone Room software allows for deep editing of all of the great amps and effects so you can carefully craft your sound, which can then be saved as one of the eight customizable programs. There is also a built-in tuner, an AUX-in jack for jamming along with recorded music, and a headphone jack for silent practice.

Comments about Vox Valvetronix VT40X 40W 1x10 Guitar Modeling Combo Amp:

Nevermind what the guy in St. Paul says about this amp. The truth is the exact opposite. This little Vox sounds so good for its size and weight, it's really quite surprising. I haven't gotten into programming it yet as I'm still having so much fun going through all of the presets and tweaking them- they don't disappoint at all. It sounds great from clean to crunchy and is really easy to use. If you have a need for a compact amp with a ton of on-board effects that can shred, buy this thing. It's a great value, and I'm thrilled with it.

Comments about Vox Valvetronix VT40X 40W 1x10 Guitar Modeling Combo Amp:

I purchased this as a lightweight, take-to-quieter-gigs/jams amp. It weighs 20lbs, my other small (Mustang !!!) is 31lbs.
I expected it to be close to a 15w RMS tube amp. volume wise. It can put out some volumes, but if you need loud-ish clean volumes, it is not that loud. I normally play a Tele and turn the guitar volume down to clean up my tone, thus losing volume from the get go. This amp, like the Mustang II, just didn't work in that capacity. It is best mostly for overdriven type tones, which gives more volume.
It can put out some bass oomph, but for me, like the Mustangs, there is that solid-state top-end treble that is hard to impossible to dial out.
The controls are easy to manage on the top and there are more amps in the Vox Tone Room. Effects don't sound bad, they do their job.
On a downside, to me, each preset amp sound to chose from only seems to work on it's color side (eg. red to red only, not also to green).
Not a bad amp, just didn't do the solve-all for me.

Comments about Vox Valvetronix VT40X 40W 1x10 Guitar Modeling Combo Amp:

I'm not a pro, but I know good tone when I hear it. Been goofing around with guitars for a while now and I have spent hundreds on other equipment that didn't get sounds as cool this little amp. A pretty good bargain for this price, being so small.

Comments about Vox Valvetronix VT40X 40W 1x10 Guitar Modeling Combo Amp:

Wow...this is a truly fantastic modeling amp. It kills for practice and home studio use and I can't say enough about how great it sounds...from clean to mean, it really does have tube characteristics and nuances. I own several tube amps including an HK Tubemeister 18 head and a Marshall DSL 40c...and while this isn't a tube , amp it is absolutely amazing for the price and the features. I love the Vox Toneroom software as well...not flashy, just straight forward and easy to use. Great work Vox!

Comments about Vox Valvetronix VT40X 40W 1x10 Guitar Modeling Combo Amp:

Having used other modeling amps like the Mustang and the new Marshall Code, my modeling amp of choice is the Vox VT40x. I prefer the interface and layout of the Vox. It's much easier to use in my opinion and I don't waste time tweaking everything. I actually play guitar. On top of the, the tones are much better than the others. Not going to sit here and say it sounds exactly like a tube amp, but the EQ knobs work, it's very crisp, no low end mush, responds well to dynamics, and offers a plethora of pre amp models. I plan on using this for bedroom practice, jams with a band, and I would consider taking it to a show if I am being mic'd. If you're like me and the interfaces on amps like the Mustang annoy you, and the tone of other ones just don't meet your expectations, give this amp a try.

I've had this for a few months and think its a great value. Hybrid solid/tube.........lots of warm tone plus the modeling! Manual doesn't tell you much......but once you download ToneRoom app and hook up to device/computer..........you can really get the most out of it.

Comments about Vox Valvetronix VT40X 40W 1x10 Guitar Modeling Combo Amp:

Use it for two different gigs, miked. I don't need the pedalboard anymore, the effects are that good. I choose an amp model, gain level I want, distortion or compression, delay, chorus, etc and tune the package then save it to a patch. Build several patches of increasing sonic mayhem, and I'm covered. This is an astonishing amp that can get any tone you want - BUT you need to work with it a little as the defaults are just places to start.

has a great sound, added tube warmth. lotsa bells and whistles for the low price. only thing I didnt like was the hissssss at idle made it unrecordable for me,but it might not be an issue for you. no idea how long it would last. seems sturdy enough . i really would recommend it just because of the power, features and killer sound.

Comments about Vox Valvetronix VT40X 40W 1x10 Guitar Modeling Combo Amp:

I liked this amp enough to buy two of them (got both on sale at different times). I run them in stereo out of my TC Mimiq or DD7 Delay pedal with one on each side of my chair. I like the onboard modeled sounds but like with most modeling amps the volume is a bit touchy when you switch between sounds.
They are a bit loud for apartment use, but if you run manual mode it is easy to keep volume down, or if you have some kind of volume pedal or volume knobs in your chain before the amp. If you have a practice space where you can turn up a bit, the tube has a nice breakup that you can roll on and off with your guitar's volume, especially with a humbucker pickup.
I'm not sure how well the handle would keep up with road use but I'm sure you could swap the handle out if that was a concern. I think it would be fine if you don't abuse your gear like a normal person.
As for volume I think one of these amps would be fine for most bands unless you're playing heavy metal or have a really wild drummer. Never really seen heavy metal guys use Vox though, so that may not be a concern? Since I have two I would probably never turn both all the way up, just strategically place them on stage so I can be heard clearly.
The only thing I wish the amp had was an effects loop, but I can see why they wouldn't be able to fit one in at this price point, and they probably want you to make use of the built in effects.
