Not the cheapest compressor pedal, but very good for its price.

There are other good compressor out there, but for those who doesn't like a lot of controls and knobs to tweak the sound, this is the best option.

There are dip switchs inside to make it more versatile, but since the controls are internal, this is more apropriated for those who likes the "set and forget" kind of pedal.

The best feature is the blend knob, so you can avoid the over compressed attack blending it with the clean guitar signal. You can go from a Dynacomp squashed sound to a more subtle compression with just one knob. The compact size is also a plus.

The controls are Volume and Dry/Effect Blend Knobs and a switch with three levels of compression/sustain (lo, hi, mid). Plus, 4 internal dip switchs to control the Attack/Release time, High Cut Filter and Input Pad/Low Cut Filter.

    In general:

Well built, easy to use, versatile, sounds great, low noise (for a compressor pedal).

Not recomended for who likes to tweak and change the sound all the time, since some controls are internal.

I bought this pedal and had to return it due to the high levels of noise in the mid and high compression settings. The compressor works just as a Ross type compression should. The blend knob is a nice feature, although there are other compressors out there that offer blend.

If you just using the low setting, the noise isn't an issue. At the highest level, the noise is overbearing and for me it is unuseable. The medium setting is fine if the blend is dialed back. However, I bought this compressor to use it fully and it did not deliver for me.

On a positive note, I do like the layout and design of this compact pedal.

Comments about Xotic Effects SP Compressor Guitar Effects Pedal:

I work in a duo with backing tracks, and wanted a compressor to make the live guitar "sit" better with the tracks. I tried a setting that I liked at home, took it to the gig- expecting to have it on for only certain songs- but it never went off. It almost seems to make playing easier (I've never used a compressor before- I hate that squashed sound). Love it, even though living in South Africa made it very expensive.

Comments about Xotic Effects SP Compressor Guitar Effects Pedal:

I have several of these for the touring board, the fly board, and the studio board. They can shape tone, be an effect, be transparent, limit, compress - very versatile units. 3-way toggle settings are very good but the added internal adjustment allows users to really dial it in. There's a lot of power in those little boxes. Highly recommended!

Comments about Xotic Effects SP Compressor Guitar Effects Pedal:

great little ross style compressor. I mostly use it with my ep boost and a carbon copy or memory man to get smooth and deep delay tones. great for my rhythm playing. slightly noisy on higher setting but all comp's are. I would recommend this to anyone due to build quality alone. sounds great.

Comments about Xotic Effects SP Compressor Guitar Effects Pedal:

Really easy to dial in any sound you may need. I don't need a totally "squashed" Nashville type of sound but I do use it for beefing up a clean tone or for making my higher overdrive sounds just soar. Well built, and despite the small footprint, really thoughtfully laid out.

Comments about Xotic Effects SP Compressor Guitar Effects Pedal:

I've tried many compressors going back to the old 70's DynaComp. I don't need a lot of compression, just something clean that can add a bit of sustain. Run first in my chain, this pedal does it better than any I've seen. I thought the 3 position compression would not be as versatile as a knob with many positions, but the blend knob more than makes up for that. Great sounding compressor, little or no noise, compact, and great build quality. Only complaint is the internal DIP switches. Would rather see those adjustments on the outside, but with a compact pedal, probably not possible.

I can't see ever needing another compressor.

Comments about Xotic Effects SP Compressor Guitar Effects Pedal:

I'm wasn't a big fan of traditional compressors for electric guitar because they always seemed to squash my sound too much and took away from the dynamics of my style. The blend knob on the SP compressor, however, lets you dial in just the right amount of dry signal so you can get all the benefits of subtle compression without compromising your sound. Of course, if you like a squashed sound it does a great job at that also. I'm a big fan of Xotic and all of their pedals are built like tanks and occupy a very small footprint on your pedalboard. Internal DIP switches let you tailor the sound even more if i.e. you are using high output humbucker pickups. The SP Compressor was just what I needed to put the final finish on my tone and I highly recommend this product.

Comments about Xotic Effects SP Compressor Guitar Effects Pedal:

I love this pedal. No noise/true bypass circuitry. Beautiful simplicity. Small footprint for my pedal board. Rugged casing should be able to take a beating. I waited about two months for this pedal and, it was worth the wait. Made in the U.S.A. by fellow Americans. The price is awesome compared to other compressors.

This is the best pedal compressor I have ever heard. I did a side by side with the MXR Dyna Comp and this absolutely blew it away. If you want to sound like the 70's, go with the MXR, but the SP is simply the better compressor. Technology has come quite a way in the last 40 years. I'll choose the pedal that does the job better over the time capsule every day.
