No it isnt an acoustic upright but it sound better than most uprights that have a mic.Sounds close as you can get.If you can play unplugged then stick with your upright but if you are gonna need to be amplified then get this.Very sweet sounds and very beautiful instrument, very easy to play and boy does it growl.Best electric upright you can buy.The hollow body makes a big difference.Dino makes these in the USA.Dont buy the imported emminence these are way better.

This bass is a decent alternative to a true upright bass. It will never replace one but it does do a great deal better then any of the Stick versions you can find out there. I was in school and wanted to learn upright but had neither the money nor the space to store a full upright so I got a Wave bass. It was good for a while and did it's job but now that my Jazz band is starting to do some better gigs I realized that it was just not going to cut it. This bass was the answer. It plays, sounds and feels twice as realistic as the Steinberger. If you have the means, get a real upright. If you need a replacement for transportation or storage issues get this.

I bought one of these because I travel to Ireland once a year and couldn't afford to take my upright bass with me.  I haven't flown with it yet, but I've used it in the studio and on stage a couple of times and was great each time.  It has a great natural tone.

Excellent Tone Quality

The instrument has an excellent sound with or without a bow. The hollow-body construction adds the "wood timbre" to the sound of the instrument, particularly when playing with a bow.  And it's considerably less vulnerable to feedback than a standard acoustic bass with pick-up.

The BSX Allegro has excellent sound quality for both arco and pizzicato playing.  Feedback won't be an issue for most players in most circumstances. The on-board active electronics are both useful and good (although I haven't used it in a recording studio environment).  The display stand should be considered a mandatory purchase because, like most EUBs, the Allegro doesn't rest on its side very well, if at all, and standing up the instrument in a corner on a gig isn't always possible or a good idea. I've managed to draw very favorable comments on the sound of the BSX Allegro from a few individuals who are, or were, die-hard fans of the conventional acoustic double bass. I normally use the G-K combo amp (12" speaker, 150W amp), but any good quality bass amp should work well with the BSX Allegro.
