Comments about BSX Bass Allegro Acoustic-Electric Upright Bass:

No it isnt an acoustic upright but it sound better than most uprights that have a mic.Sounds close as you can get.If you can play unplugged then stick with your upright but if you are gonna need to be amplified then get this.Very sweet sounds and very beautiful instrument, very easy to play and boy does it growl.Best electric upright you can buy.The hollow body makes a big difference.Dino makes these in the USA.Dont buy the imported emminence these are way better.

Great Travel Bass!

Comments about BSX Bass Allegro Acoustic-Electric Upright Bass:

This bass is a decent alternative to a true upright bass. It will never replace one but it does do a great deal better then any of the Stick versions you can find out there. I was in school and wanted to learn upright but had neither the money nor the space to store a full upright so I got a Wave bass. It was good for a while and did it's job but now that my Jazz band is starting to do some better gigs I realized that it was just not going to cut it. This bass was the answer. It plays, sounds and feels twice as realistic as the Steinberger. If you have the means, get a real upright. If you need a replacement for transportation or storage issues get this.

Comments about BSX Bass Allegro Acoustic-Electric Upright Bass:

The BSX Allegro has excellent sound quality for both arco and pizzicato playing. Feedback won't be an issue for most players in most circumstances. The on-board active electronics are both useful and good (although I haven't used it in a recording studio environment). The display stand should be considered a mandatory purchase because, like most EUBs, the Allegro doesn't rest on its side very well, if at all, and standing up the instrument in a corner on a gig isn't always possible or a good idea.I've managed to draw very favorable comments on the sound of the BSX Allegro from a few individuals who are, or were, die-hard fans of the conventional acoustic double bass.I normally use the G-K combo amp (12" speaker, 150W amp), but any good quality bass amp should work well with the BSX Allegro.

Have had my BSX Allegro for 6 months

By Mike Bhone

from Bakersfield, CA

Comments about BSX Bass Allegro Acoustic-Electric Upright Bass:

The bass is incredible! People flock to the bandstand to look at it before I even start playing. The sound is the real deal, as close as you are going to get to a double bass. Very smooth, even, deep and loud! I sold my double bass because I was having back problems. This bass is light weight and very portable. My son like the sound of the Allegro better than my $12.000.00 double bass. I would recommend this bass to all bass players.

Comments about BSX Bass Allegro Acoustic-Electric Upright Bass:

I bought one of these because I travel to Ireland once a year and couldn't afford to take my upright bass with me. I haven't flown with it yet, but I've used it in the studio and on stage a couple of times and was great each time. It has a great natural tone.

Excellent Tone Quality

Comments about BSX Bass Allegro Acoustic-Electric Upright Bass:

The instrument has an excellent sound with or without a bow. The hollow-body construction adds the "wood timbre" to the sound of the instrument, particularly when playing with a bow. And it's considerably less vulnerable to feedback than a standard acoustic bass with pick-up.

Comments about BSX Bass Allegro Acoustic-Electric Upright Bass:

This was on back order, so I had to wait awhile to get it, but it was worth the wait! I love it. I mostly play acoustic bluegrass/folk music, and have played an acoustic bass for 40 years. This is my FIRST foray into electric basses, and I was highly skeptical. However, the tone is gorgeous and sounds acoustic (when using the right setting on the amp). Without an amp, you can easily hear for practicing, but would not be heard in a jam. However, using a bow - it sounded surprisingly loud sans amp, and the tone sounded significantly better than my old acoustic Kay bass. The only problem is a buzz in the G-string for which I haven't yet discovered the source. I trust I will, but if not, it will definitely be a problem. The best part is that it looks and sounds acoustic, so it should get me in the "no-electric" door at some Bluegrass festivals.

Comments about BSX Bass Allegro Acoustic-Electric Upright Bass:

I use the BSX Allegro for recording and gigging. Works great for bluegrass, folk, jazz and, what's most exciting, you can crank it for rock venues with hardly any feedback issues! The only thing keeping me from giving it 5 stars is the craftsmanship is just okay. It could be more tightly built and carefully painted for the price, especially considering my upright acoustic is a meticulously crafted instrument for exactly the same price.

Even though it is not listed and the sales rep said it didn't, this does come with a very nice heavy padded case. For the price I was glad to see this when we opened the box.
