This is a great bass for the price. sounds awesome acoustically and plugged in. The satin finish looks very natural (wood isn't naturally shiny) The tone of this bass is great and it even sounds good when playing slap bass.
my electric bass is fretless and i use fender tapewounds so this bass was a completely new experience. the action is high, but not unplayably high, and the strings are roundwounds, not as finger friendly as tapewounds, but expected.
This bass plays very well and is a joy to own. acoustically it is fairly loud, although you might have to use a pick (I know a lot of pick haters out there would disagree) but it is sometimes necessary to cut through the sound of other instruments. This bass won't out-play any other acoustic instruments but it is able to play with them. Electrically this bass is a little weak, it has alot of finger noise but if the tone is turned all the way down it sounds almost the same through the amp as it does acoustically.
This bass does great when jamming with an acoustic guitar or two and even a cajon (box drum) or other slightly quiet percussion.
Overall this is an amazing acoustic bass that is fun to play and is loud enough to be used as it is intended; Acoustically
good tuners, straight neck, well dressed frets, no buzzing when fretted with enough pressure, and nice finish. The only complaint I have is the one strap button (common with acoustic guitars) so i just use string to tie my strap to the headstock. still an awesome bass nonetheless
best value as far as acoustic basses go. This thing rocks and its cheap too. You can get that acoustic bass sound you've been looking for without breaking the bank.

My son has this bass. For the money, it's unbeatable. It sounds and plays as well as instruments over twice the price.

The pickup is inexpensive so don't expect pro quality sound from it. It's fine for plugging into a little bass amp and playing with friends.

It sounds considerably better played acoustically (which is true of all acoustic bass guitars, but moreso for the Dean.)

The only issue was the bridge separated from the body, behind the bridge. I think it may be a design flaw as the bump on the fancy shape makes a narrower point which will get more stress. Therefore I recommend against medium or heavy strings (unfortunately).

We'll have a luthier glue it back down and hopefully it's not a design flaw but just a bad glue job, and won't fail again. Even including the repair cost, it's still a good value, if it doesn't fail again and need a complete new bridge.

If not for the bridge issue, I'd give it 5 stars based on value.

Comments about Dean EAB Acoustic-Electric Bass:

The bass is very nice and came with a good setup, however, some of the frets had sharp edges sticking out the sides. I had to spend about an hour dressing them with a flat file and emory board before the bass was comfortably playable. Now that the frets are all smooth on the sides, it plays great for the money.

Comments about Dean EAB Acoustic-Electric Bass:

There are some bad reviews on here. I don't doubt that they have some duds on the production line, but I have TWO of these basses. One is a Dean and one is a playmate. The pickup is garbage, but it's acoustic so I don't mind. I'll probably get a Dean Markley acoustic pickup to double as a thumb rest (needs one badly). Yeah, there are some buzzy frets but only high on the neck (15th fret and up). I plan on ripping the frets off of one.

Comments about Dean EAB Acoustic-Electric Bass:

Reading all the reviews on every site I could find, I decided to try one of these. Maybe I just got a good one, but seriously, for the price it's pretty amazing. The truss rod was loose and the action a little high when I got it. I adjusted the neck, it plays sweet with no buzzing and stays in tune. I've played the Martin, Breedlove, Ibanez etc. I think there is something not 100% right with every one I've played. For the price, the quality is very good, I mean seriously, for the price, it's a good bass with a great sound. I suggest using a preamp if amplifying, if you do, the sound is adjustable and fine. I play it through a PA with compression, reverb and EQ pedals. This is a gem. I have many fine instruments and this fits in the arsenal just fine.

This bass sounds great and needed no setup as delivered, BUT, some of the frets had sharp edges sticking out along the sides of the fretboard. A little bit of masking tape, a small file, and I had it perfect. This kind of thing is to be expected at this price point I guess, but someone should probably have run their hand along the side of the fretboard and caught this.

The fit and finish on this was near flawless. I did not have any issues with set-up as did others. Played good right out of the box. Surprised by the quality of this at this price, I don't care where it's made, whoever can deliver this quality at this price gets my money, no regrets.

I go this as a practice instrument mainly. I like to just pick it up and start playing without any need for an amp or headphones. I can play it quietly in my house and can still hear it clearly without waking everybody up at night.Since it is a little harder to play than my electric bass, it is helping me build up my left hand wrist and fingers giving me better technique when I do play the electric. Someday, I hope to play with acoustic guitars in an unplugged setting and I think this would work well.

Comments about Dean EAB Acoustic-Electric Bass:

Purchased as 'minor scratched' for acoustic use mainly. The thing to remember when purchasing less expensive guitars is that most will need a set-up. This can cost almost as much as the instrument itself, but anyone can learn to do this with substantial savings. After set-up and a string change, I found this bass to be a pretty good deal. The electronics / pickup seems a bit weak, and if you are buying strictly for amplification I would look elsewhere. The acoustic sound is quite nice, even though it won't compare well with an expensive model constructed with choice materials.

Comments about Dean EAB Acoustic-Electric Bass:

Avoid this guitar like the plague! If I could give this zero stars I would. It is part of the Dean Playmate line which are notoriously bad quality. It did not mention that in the write up so I bought it not knowing this. Right out of the box the hole for the control section had been cut too big so one side of the controls was loose because it had nothing for the screw to hold onto to. Once tuned up it would not hold tuning and the D and G strings buzzed horribly in all positions. There was obviously a neck and/or fret problem. This was cheap and there's an old saying you get what you pay for but in this case you will get less than what you pay for. I could not return it quickly enough and hope to save anyone looking at buying this the hassle. Musciansfriend should drop this item.
