This is a great bass for the price. sounds awesome acoustically and plugged in. The satin finish looks very natural (wood isn't naturally shiny) The tone of this bass is great and it even sounds good when playing slap bass.
my electric bass is fretless and i use fender tapewounds so this bass was a completely new experience. the action is high, but not unplayably high, and the strings are roundwounds, not as finger friendly as tapewounds, but expected.
This bass plays very well and is a joy to own. acoustically it is fairly loud, although you might have to use a pick (I know a lot of pick haters out there would disagree) but it is sometimes necessary to cut through the sound of other instruments. This bass won't out-play any other acoustic instruments but it is able to play with them. Electrically this bass is a little weak, it has alot of finger noise but if the tone is turned all the way down it sounds almost the same through the amp as it does acoustically.
This bass does great when jamming with an acoustic guitar or two and even a cajon (box drum) or other slightly quiet percussion.
Overall this is an amazing acoustic bass that is fun to play and is loud enough to be used as it is intended; Acoustically
good tuners, straight neck, well dressed frets, no buzzing when fretted with enough pressure, and nice finish. The only complaint I have is the one strap button (common with acoustic guitars) so i just use string to tie my strap to the headstock. still an awesome bass nonetheless
best value as far as acoustic basses go. This thing rocks and its cheap too. You can get that acoustic bass sound you've been looking for without breaking the bank.

I was given this item as a gift a few years ago along with the matching hardshell case. They bass was great at first. To protect it, I left the bass in the case all of the time when I wasn't playing it. At one point, I had not played it for a while (about a month) and the case had not fallen during this time or experienced any damage! The next time I went to take the bass out of the case, the body was cracked in the seam on its back. I was very disappointed by this and the bass is unplayable in my opinion.

Very happy i bought this. Sounds much better than i was expecting. Very good tone, very good volume, and to me the neck is just right, i have no trouble hitting the 1st fret. Only problem is one of the tuning keys is hard to turn, but nothing that couldnt happen to ANY guitar.

Comments about Dean EAB Acoustic-Electric Bass:
I bought this Bass about two years ago. I knew it was made in China and I knew it was cheap. I changed the strings to the phosphor bronze, adjusted the truss rod and its played great for the last two years. My bass stays in tune great and plays well. My biggest problem at first was where to place my thumb. I just started floating my thumb to make up for the lack of a pickup. It is a long bass but I'm 5'10' and I have no problem playing the 1st-3rd frets. It isn't super loud unless you plug it in but that's cool with me because I have little kids. I jam with a dude that plays acoustic guitar and it holds up fine.

Comments about Dean EAB Acoustic-Electric Bass:
I bought this bass for my son and the fret buzz was extremely bad, especially on the G string. It seems to be an issue with the nut. I am probably going to exchange it and try again. Hopefully the next one is better or I probably wouldn't buy a DEAN guitar again.

Comments about Dean EAB Acoustic-Electric Bass:
Read reviews regarding use of Fender Tape Wound Strings, took some set up for them and now it sounds & feels somewhat close to my Kay Upright. It's big, but not as large as upright. It's very handy due to nice sound with/without amplification. Wasn't expecting to sound as good as it does.
A real SOUND BARGAIN!!!! (Please pardon pun.)

Comments about Dean EAB Acoustic-Electric Bass:
...meaning, like everything else that I've received through the mail from 'Musician's Friend' (and any others that I've dealt with, lucky me) the product arrived on time, in working order, and without a scratch! As for the Dean EAB Acoustic-Electric Bass, I again give high marks. First, as others have mentiond, this is a big boy! My cousin (with whom I occasionally jam) mentioned recently that if he were get another guitar anytime soon, an accoustic bass would be a good idea, because you always have plenty of guys bringing guitars, but basses and bass-players are rarely on hand. Having a little bottom end would definitely make the the play arounds a bit richer and more lively. So, up comes this item offered to me in conjunction with a pretty fair discount, meaning that I could own it for less than the already low price! "Done and done!", says I. I'm not a bass player, but like noodling around and, as with anything else, you can't help but get better if you have the incentive to work at it. This big black beauty allows me that incentive. Once tuned up, it stays in tune. There are no sharp edges and it is well-crafted, solidly put together and produces a rich, thick sound. All of the frets were fine, (no sharp edges) I get no buzzing, and the action is perfect. It needed no set-up and it sounds pretty cool plugged into my small practice amp, as well. I like this critter! It's cheap, pretty, and worth the price. Thank you, 'Musician's Friend' from a happy and satisfied customer...

Comments about Dean EAB Acoustic-Electric Bass:
It's a Dean so +1. Once I get the neck zoned in, which took about 30 minutes (crank a 1/4 turn, wait for result 5 minutes), it plays perfectly. The passive sound system is easy to work with, and no battery hassles. I wanted this for a couple reasons including an acoustic startup band. It's perfect.

Comments about Dean EAB Acoustic-Electric Bass:
This is a great bass and sounds nice. As others have said, it is very large but I like the size. I'm 6.5 and it's a stretch to the end of the neck.
Acoustically, I love the sound it has.
Internal electronics are OK if you run a preamp. I have to run the volume almost all the way up on my Randall to hear it which causes feedback.
All in all a great value that could be upgraded if you want with good tuners and better electronics after you've had it a while.
