Deluxe, Czech Republic-crafted version of the WAV 4.

The NS Design CR Series 4 String Electric Double Bass was made in the Czech Republic, where there is a long-held reputation for producing the highest-quality upright basses. In its June 2000 issue, Bass Player magazine, citing its impeccable craftsmanship, stated, "This bass plays so well, in fact, that upright players may find it plays too easily."

European maple neck and body with a flamed maple face. The neck has a traditional profile and is fitted with a Macassar ebony fingerboard. An active 18V hum-canceling preamp with volume, bass EQ, and treble EQ controls is wired to both a Polar bridge-mounted piezo and an EMG magnetic pickup.

The CR Series Upright Bass comes with a foldable chrome-plated tripod stand, a padded Cordura bag for the bass, and an interior bag for the tripod stand.

I have owned and played the NS Design CR Series 4 bass for almost a year, and use it for everything from americana roots, blues, and country and to southern rock. It's been a big hit with every band. The tone is amazingly fat, the action is very smooth and you can't beat the portability. My only complaint is that bowing is a bit tricky as the bridge is a bit flat in comparison to an accoustic upright. That said, I like this beautiful instument so much, I have since sold all of my other bass guitars. You can say good bye to back and neck pain!

Comments about NS Design CR Series 4-String Electric Double Bass:

Extremely well made instrument with infinite possiblities. Looooove the feel of the smooth neck and ebony board. The pre-amp's controls offer plenty of tonal palettes.

I bought this bass used in condition 1 (mint). It arrived with too much neck relief and the bridge was too high making playing not comfortable. I'm sure that's why the previous owner returned it because they didn't know how to properly set up a bass. I spent two days readjusting the neck relief to be flatter and lowering the bridge to where I thought it had the best tone and easiest playability. I even readjusted the magnetic pickup heights for a more consistent volume between strings. All this adjustment info is in the manual and if you're not comfortable making these adjustment then take the bass in to a good luthier for proper setup.

I intend to use this bass for all types of music. I play Fender basses in my band and this is my first upright bass and this will definitely be going out on gigs soon.

Very easy to play and transport compared to a standard upright bass. Many tonal possibilities with both magnetic and peizo pickups -- sounds great through an acoustic amp. Beautiful workmanship.

Comments about NS Design CR Series 4-String Electric Double Bass:

Unique sound like no other. More "wah" than any fretless, almost too much. Huge wide neck and very skinny strings. Not easy for players w/ small hands to get around on this bad boy. New stand is not as friendly as the early model. Very expressive sound. Go for it.

        The BEST bass EVER!!!!!

Comments about NS Design CR Series 4-String Electric Double Bass:

The first day i got this bass I played it for about 5 hours straight, then played a gig with it later that night. To add to that, i had only played a upright one other time. It almost plays itself. It will fit any playing style, also. If you're looking for a electric upright, this is the one.

        Excellent Bass

Comments about NS Design CR Series 4-String Electric Double Bass:

Well, I think there is not much to say, its designed by Ned Steinberger, he is the best - the sound, the playability, the design, all is flawless, so why does it have a low rating? Believe me, it deserves a 10!

I play for the 108th Army Band in AZ, and I love this bass, it's so versatile and so much easier to cart around than a traditional double... what's not to love. It sounds great when put through the right equipment. I love it.

Comments about NS Design CR Series 4-String Electric Double Bass:

I have played electric/double bass for over 30years and this CR4M is the smoothest player out there. I have owned/gigged with the CR4M for over a year now and it feels/looks like the day I bought it. The capabilities of this bass is countless from being in the pocket with blues to playing tasty lead bass lines.

Its hard to play and it costs way too much for the quality of it. I don't recommend it.
