Comments about Rogue VB100LH Left-Handed Violin Bass Guitar:
Just had no opportunity to take my main instrument (MM StingRay 5) with me, and played a couple of gigs with this one, previously used only for being shot in photosets and music videos, and it definitely plays and feels good. The weakest detail are electronics, but whatever. It rocks, it is clearly pronounced within a band and actually I liked its sound more than my fretless Lakland (with old strings, but anyway).
Great surprise and that's why, after four years of not using it i'm writing this review =)
Comments about Rogue VB100LH Left-Handed Violin Bass Guitar:
Overall I am very happy with this bass guitar, it's lightweight, it has shorter frets and fretboard for people that do not have long fingers.
The quality control could be a little better during manufacturing, but if you invest the time or the little money to set it up correctly, you'll have a beautiful violin style bass guitar that plays great too.
First off, let's try to keep in perspective that this is a $200 bass and not a $ 2000 one.
I think this is a good bass, maybe it doesn't show the best attention to details, but definitely it has a nice warm sound and it's very playable.
From my experience, out of the box this bass is not so great, out of tune (of course!), the action is too high, the pitch between open strings and 12 fret is not identical, the electronic works erratically.
The good news is that with a little tune up (tighten the truss rod, raise and move the bridge to avoid buzzing and cure the pitch of the 12 fret, solder a little wire that came loose in the electronic) I got myself a beautiful bass guitar. I did all this myself, but the local shop would have asked 50 bucks for a tune up not a huge amount of money in my opinion.
I also put a set of GHS flatwound strings, they sound much better than the stock one and are easier on your fingers too!
The overall quality of this bass is good, it has minor blemishes here and there, the plug and one of the tuners were loose on mine and had to tighten them, etc., personally I think it looks pretty, and its performance is where this bass really shines!
The value of this bass is phenomenal, I think that compared to a higher end bass this one has nothing to be ashamed of.
