Standard guitar repertoire by Carcassi, Carulli, Giuliani, Sor, and Tárrega is included along with seven transcriptions of works by J.S. Bach, Paganini, Pachelbel, and Beethoven, spanning 250 years of music. Pieces are organized in order of difficulty from Grade 1 to Grade 4, as set by the American String Teacher's Association's Guitar Division.

Classical for Guitar is not geared for the fingerstyle virtuoso. Most of the selections go beyond the simple 1 note per beat melodies that I've seen in a lot of other "Beginner Classical" books but I don't find it to be difficult with the fingerings they choose. A major advantage of this book over other classical books is that they show the chord diagrams above the staff. I think that is this book's shining feature. I've often wondered what chord I'm utilizing while playing from other beginner classical books. The addition of the chord diagram shows me that I can often just finger a chord the way I normally would and use find the incidental notes from that position. Within the staff it also lists the fingerings as it would in any decent sheet music. The arrangements are ear-pleasing though at times they seem a bit sparse. The chord diagrams and low price reinforce the great value that this book is.
