The Fretboard Logic books are the best guitar books, period. The name says it all. Other books show you a scale or a chord and you just have to see it, then memorize it. These books show what to play, where to play it, but also, most importantly, WHY you play it as such. As the name implies, he shows us the logic behind the fretboard patterns and the guitar's unique tuning. Speaking of which, after reading these, I hardly ever play in drop-anything tuning anymore because it feels like I'm screwing up perfection.I will admit that the books might seem a little bit daunting and confusing if you've never picked up a guitar. But after you pick up the basics, these books are all you need.I have not seen the DVDs so I can't comment on them. But if you only buy one guitar book in your life, make it Fretboard Logic SE. It's the only one you'll ever need.

The title of this series is misleading. "Logic" is in no way a good descriptor. I bought this a year ago, and viewing it for the first time back then, I was left with only one thought, "What the?" Many other viewings this year have left me with my initial thought of, ?What the?? This set is not for beginners. I would not buy this for any aspiring young players. The DVD is dull, methodical, and reminds me of a college chemistry lecture. Boring! Definitely not something I want while trying to improve my passion. I can?t imagine anyone enjoying the drudgery of this DVD to pick up a few tips. The same techniques and skills contained in this DVD can be found in a much more entertaining fashion on the Rock House Method DVDs and Hal Leonard series DVDs. At least John McCarthy (Rock House Method) and Greg Koch (Hal Leonard Series) both have great personalities and inspire you to keep following along. For adult/ advanced learners who want to really dig into music theory the Fretboard Logic series is great. If you are looking for something entertaining to learn by, I would steer clear of this set.

Comments about Bill Edwards Publishing Complete Fretboard Logic Box Set:

This really teaches you to think differently and SPECIFICALLY about the guitar. Lots of other lessons are basically about monkey-see, monkey-do and rote memorization. This volume teaches you to think in terms of a basic system that once learned is expanded upon. Very helpful for improvisation once you understand the framework. Is it easy? Not necessarily... Is it fun? Depends on what you make of it. But it is a very valuable perspective and once understood, the fretboard will open up to you in unexpected ways that will surprise you. There are lots of books that teach just patterns. There are lots of books that teach "systems" but this is a very well-thought out and comprehensive system. The theory is very specific to guitar. The book isn't half-full of chord diagrams of every possible variation of every chord available. What is there is needed and what is needed is there. If you really want a solid foundation and true, in-depth understanding of the instrument, pick up this volume, learn it step-by-step and before long, you will be surprising yourself with your ability to play whatever you like no matter what the key.

Comments about Bill Edwards Publishing Complete Fretboard Logic Box Set:

This box set has helped me learn so much and I have a great understanding of how to use lead patterns, arpeggios, and scales to my advantage. I wouldn't say it is for beginners though, because you have to have an understanding of chords before learning the CAGED positions and forms. I also agree the DVD is a little dull, but its definitely worth learning. The price isn't too bad, if you think about what you pay for lessons then its really a great deal.

I have bought almost every guitar instructional series on the market this is the best there is. Bill Edwards has developed the most logical, and comprhensive method for learning guitar that there is. It starts with simple framework and then it builds. Everything is linked together so that the student learns quickly. He also puts the student first. Once you start learning from him you can tell that he has though of whats est for the student. No excess at. Amazing piece of material...enough said.

      Not for beginners.

Comments about Bill Edwards Publishing Complete Fretboard Logic Box Set:

This is not a bad series but beware it is not for a brand new guitar player. I highly advise a new player to go with Mel Bay volume one and go from there. Once you reach Mel Bays volume 4 or 5 then you can look into this series for more insight.

      To the point

      By gory

Comments about Bill Edwards Publishing Complete Fretboard Logic Box Set:

Quite simply that is what this method is. To the point. Each of the three books builds upon the last in developing patterns and formulas that are simple to understand and incorporate into any playing style. I have been trying to play guitar for 13 years and I can confindently say that this book has finally made sense of the instrument. Mr. Edwards seperates the guitar from other instruments and explains why it is important to have knowledge of the instrument before theory will really start to make sense. I am currently in the middle of the second book and have peeked into the third, where he really starts to tackle theory. For a self published series the author has really developed a resource that has opened up the guitar in ways that I never thought that would be possible. Buy the box set, you'll get more bang for your buck (I got it when it was on sale for $55 but all of us can't be so lucky). This series comes with the highest recommendation.

notice the fact tht there is one poor review...

Comments about Bill Edwards Publishing Complete Fretboard Logic Box Set:

Because this book is magic-tastic. Most guitar books are crap. The Grimoire books are great- but players need to be able to evaluate where they are on the neck as well as the options they have in choosing where to go next- the Bill Edwards books teach that... Yeah- the CAGED sequence is not what you were taught as a kid and you might have to do some unlearning... but you need to- because it is how you SHOULD have been taught. Not only does the book provide a very simple method of using what you know already to get results- it provides you with the knowledge to de-construct what were previously mystery riffs on your own guitar and then tell others where and what they are... which is, after all, what music theory is supposed to be all about. I had to think a lot harder than this at the UGA school of music to learn a LOT less

      Fretboard Logic Series

      By TaylorMC

      from Warren, ME

Comments about Bill Edwards Publishing Complete Fretboard Logic Box Set:

The information in the FL series is indispensible, if you play guitar you need to know the CAGED theory, moveable chord forms, scale forms, lead positions, along with the various scales, modes, arpeggios and plethera of other knowledge Mr. Edwards presents. Even if you have been playing for a while, there is always more to learn, and it is VERY hard to find a source of guitar-specific information as thorough as this.

Comments about Bill Edwards Publishing Complete Fretboard Logic Box Set:

I own many guitar books and videos. Fretboard logic books 1 and 2 are the best way to go period. Memorizing shapes and scales is a joke. By the time you are done with these books, you won't need them anymore. You will understand. Period. Don't waste your time with anything else.
