Comments about Centerstream Publishing Sourcebook of Little Walter/Big Walter Licks for Blues Harmonica Book with CD:
Unlike many other tab/riff books out there that simplify much of the Walters' riffs in their tab transcriptions, Tom Ball illustrates all of the tricky tongue-splits, pop-kisses, chord-echoes, etc. of these masters in all of their dissected glory.Tom also brings great historical and personal context to the Walters' style along with discussing their mics, amps, effects and recording technique. But beginners beware, the majority of these licks utilize heavy use of tongue-splits and are pretty fast and intricate. The sections of 'tricky riffs' will challenge even the most experienced players. Beginning/Intermediate harpers may want to start on a book like Blues Harmonica Collection, which contain a variety of easier songs along with a ton of Little Walter tabs.It should be noted that this book is only a SMALL collection of short riffs in an aim to get a handle on the Walters' style. There are no complete songs/solos. Though after practicing some of these, you can much more easily start transcribing the songs yourself as the Walters repeat these same riffs and variations of them countless times.
