Good sound and playability. The bass chords are C and G. It's tuned just like a C major diatonic harmonica - your second C is on the pull instead of the push. The sound is very rich and not too bright. I'd say it sounds like a very dry tremolo harmonica - there's only one reed here, but it has a similar tone quality. It's still a bit shrill or "cheesy" sounding but this can be improved, see below. If you have the tools to work on reeds, you can turn this into a professional instrument. I retuned mine to C Harmonic Minor, which gives a more traditional accordion sound. I used the notation chart on Lee Oskar's website. With a little work, the reed response can be improved significantly, and it becomes possible to play fast runs.Very fun, worth checking out.

Well,it is what it is. Not to bad, seems to hold up good. Only recomend for small kids. I would invest in a better accordion for better results. Kids love it.

I bought this out of curiosity, and since my wife thought it looked cute. We have a young daughter and thought she might enjoy it. I expected it to be a toy, and it is, but this little thing actually puts out a pretty nice sound. Definitely worth the money. This little thing is a lot of fun, and really does sound nice.

Comments about Hohner UC102R Toy Accordion:

for the cheap price, this is a nice little accordion. the sound is good, the buttons are easy to press, and it stays in tune well. the "only" complaint i have with this instrument is when you are playing it and you are opening and closing the bellows, it is very noisy and tends to creak and sqeak. there isnt much to complain about though because you must remember that it IS a "toy" AND is cheap. there is a way that you can change the reeds in this instrument to make it sound a little better so if you can do that, do it. if this is the only accordion available to you, BUY IT. for such a cheap price, this is a very good deal. i have had a lot of fun playing this little thing. it is very easy to learn, it's very fun to play, and it's also a great little accordion to simply start playing on. as long as you are playing music and having fun with it, there is no bad instrument no matter if it isnt the best quality or the greatest sounding!

This is the first musical instrument this child has received and he is loving it! Very easy to manage, just the right size for a young beginner.

What are the chords? And a story.

Comments about Hohner UC102R Toy Accordion:

Can anyone explain what chords are played by the left hand--in an out, starting at the air valve? Thanks. My Story: Years ago I was at the Champlain River Festival at the Button Box tent. In walks a large man and I was informed that it was X, the great Quebecoise player. He picked up this instrument, then called a HERO, and played it. Magnificently to my ears. He looked at the box, made that "Not bad, not bad at all" face, and returned it to its place. This is no toy.

            A Toy?

Comments about Hohner UC102R Toy Accordion:

Recently received my "toy" squeeze box, what a fun little instrument! Works great for fill-ins during recording, and the kids I teach pick it up quickly. Real quality toy, have purchased worse "real" accordions. Good job Hohner!!

good as more than just a toy

Comments about Hohner UC102R Toy Accordion:

I'm not completely sure but I think this is the same model i bought a few years ago, I had forgotten about for a long time but eventually, after I began playing guitar and piano, I picked it up again. It certainly isn't a full size accordion, and it sounds nothing like youd really expect, but that being said it's pretty awesome. It sounds pretty good to me, and it is really easy to play, I'm waiting for a chance to use this in my home studio, until then, it's fun just to mess around with it. So, whether your buying it for your kid or for you, have fun

I was actually in Long Beach when I found one of these things in a thrift store. The lady offered for 10 bucks but I didn't have any cash, so I have been searching for it and it sounds great. I am not experienced but it was really cool. It REALLY easy to play. I felt like a pro. lol
