OVERVIEW

A re-invented version of their often-imitated softshaker with a new twist.

Latin Percussion's new patent-pending Twist Shaker is a set of twin dumbbell-shaped shakers that are connected with a unique rotating lock mechanism that allows them to be played together in one hand or individually in each hand. Because the Shakers can be "twisted" apart, musicians can experiment with different volume combinations to achieve exactly the sound they are looking for.

LP Twist Shakers come in three different volume levels: Soft (Yellow - LP441T-S) which is ideal for studio and acoustic performances; Medium (Blue - LP441T-M) which is versatile for use in nearly any musical situation and Loud (Red - LP441T-L) which is perfect for live performances when you really need to be heard.

Sometimes with LP products, they can be a hit or a miss. Most of the time they are a hit. With the new LP Twist Shaker, I was surprised on many levels. First off, the design of this shaker is unlike others on the market. I have yet to see shakers that allow lightening of the sound just by separating the two shaker tubes. It is very easy to separate and they connect just as easily. It is very versatile in the fact that one can combine the sound of the loud with the medium or soft! The ease of holding the shaker is great. It has these grooves in the tubes which feel great in the hand. I had some trouble in the studio with egg shakers because of shape and feel and then I used the Meinl Luis Conte shaker. Comparing the sound of the loud LP twist shaker to the loud Meinl shaker, I would say that the LP on has a grittier sound because I think the pellets are a little larger and the plastic may be a little thicker. Gives it a slight bite over the Meinl one if that's what you are looking for. It cuts perfectly through the music. I perform with an 11 piece country rock band...I need the cut! I am very pleased with this product and would very much recommend this.

I don't like the tone of this red/loud version. I'm going to return it and buy the soft or medium one, which I hope will have a more pleasing tone. I think the difference is the size of the media/pellets inside it and this loud one must have very big pellets. So, while it is loud as advertised, its tone is harsh to my ear. How to describe...? More of a "rattle" rather than a "swish". Otherwise, it is well built like other LP products and probably will suit somebody's needs. Just a tone preference thing for me

        Comments about LP Twist Shakers:

This shaker has a neutral, light sound, with the flexibility to be divided, lightening the sound even further. Shaking (like a maraca) is extremely easy and the weight distribution make playing precisely easy.

These shakers are a perfect addition to anyone's sound! Not only is there the loud version, but they also have medium and soft. You can twist the two in each set apart and use individually for a not so full sound or you can combined one loud side with a medium or soft to completely change the tone and sound! These are awesome shakers and for the price you'll never regret buying them!

              Comments about LP Twist Shakers:

I love these. I use the soft(yellow) ones as a constant in a 2 part shaker style. Still trying to find the perfect aluminum shaker for the 1 and 3 accent.

Break this shaker into 2 pieces and play them on your knees like a snare. Very cool.

Light and crisp background percussion. The soft ones are best for recording, might want to go heavier for live applications.

I am getting the 'slightly-open-hat' sizzle that I have been looking for in a shaker. 1970's Latin/Salsa. Jazzy, worldly warmth with no 'chirp'.

              LP nailed this one. Perfect.

But.. wish they would sell these as singles so I could mix/match without having to buy a set to incorporate medium or loud when needed. 4&1/2 stars.

              Comments about LP Twist Shakers:

The one into two option is a great idea to either play with two hands or have an extra one to share. I purchased the Blue (medium) and found the sound very neutral and not very lively which might be due to the heavy duty build. This might work out well for recordings but for playing live in a group I still prefer the sound and feel of eggs.

                Comments about LP Twist Shakers:

The two halves sound rather plastic-y by themselves, but together they get a beautifully smooth sound. It has a great range of volume, and good versatility in articulation. I would say this is a great first shaker to get.
