Comments about Meinl Snare Bongo Cajon:

Fun and versatile instrument for a very reasonable cost. It was smaller than I thought it would be and that does impact the sound quality--smaller box, smaller sound--so in my opinion it doesn't sound as good as a full size, upright cajon. But it's hard to beat for the value and I'm enjoying playing in as part of our acoustic setup.

Comments about Meinl Snare Bongo Cajon:

I am very impressed with this cajon. This is my first cajon, however I do own several other different percussion instruments. This cajon is lightweight, portable, and has great value. My only problem is that the snares on the high drum has a metallic ring to it. It's fairly subtle, but you can still hear it. Other than that it's perfect. You can get so many different timbres out of it, I even use my xylophone mallets on it to make it louder. This drum creates a big sound for being so small.

    Just a Blast to play!

    By Stuart Pearce

    from L.A. Mountain Suburbs

Comments about Meinl Snare Bongo Cajon:

I really like the fact that it is very easy to adjust the snares, or even remove them for a different sound. This is very well-made, and I can't say enough about how much fun it is to play! I have played it every night since I got it, and still am finding different ways to get all kinds of cool sounds out of it. I really don't have any dislikes, or complaints about this cajon at all! As far as holding it while playing, I found that trying to hold it as you would a set of regular bongos does not work well - so, what I've done is, rest it on the top of my legs, and if it moves a little - no big deal. If you want somethin' that is a blast to play, is real easy to carry around, and made to last, get one & enjoy!!!
I rate this instrument - Fantastic - because of the versatility. The multitude of sounds you can produce is unlimited! The workmanship is of very good quality, and if taken care of, should last as long as you own it. The price is very reasonable, and I would recommend it to anyone that just enjoys percussion! Get one and just experiment - you will not be disappointed.
As I said in my rating, the quality is very good for the price.
As far as value is concerned, for an instrument in this price range - I don't think you can do too much better. I would not hesitate to give one as a gift.

Meinl snare cajon... versatile, affordable, portable, and sounds cool !

    By Earthlyangels

    from Virginia

Comments about Meinl Snare Bongo Cajon:

Remarkable little percussion instrument. Do the world a favor and DO NOT buy it unless you have good rhythm and timing. A poorly played bass or drum ruins a song. You generally have good reflexes or you don't. Be honest.
Very well finished in smooth satin urethane or laquer and well put together. 2 sides are different sizes and a snare in each gives deeper or crisper tone choice. Ends can be tapped as well!
    Small and easy to carry!
I rate a '9' based on close examination at a music store. Well put together and finished.
They are cheap to buy and would last a lifetime if not abused. But 'value' means how applicable is it and I say... 'very' ! It's percussion that is easy to handle and transport, loud enough near a mic to project, and the tones are very good: crispy, woody and natural sounding.

No one else mentioned what I immediately thought of... a small pair of medium or hard rubber head mallets to tap with. Medium density rubber bounces easily and gets the volume and is not too 'clacky'. They are very cheap to buy and would not dent the playing surface. .

    Great drum lacking accessories

    By Larry Van Trump

    from south central montana

Comments about Meinl Snare Bongo Cajon:

wonderful drum! Great sound and ease of playing. However no carrying bag and no stand. Playing the drum on a table mutes the tone somewhat, and it can be a bit difficult to keep it from moving between the knees so it's problematic using it as part of a set-up.

A Great Addition to Any Percussionists Arsenal

    By Anonymous

    from Undisclosed

Comments about Meinl Snare Bongo Cajon:

The snare bongo cajon has been a great addition to my collection. I find it much easier to play than a cajon, meaning it would also be a better fit for an aspiring percussionist. My only complaint is the lack of a carrying bag designed especially for the bongo cajon. I love the sound, and it is surprisingly easy on the hands. Nice job Meinl!

Great value, but with minor setbacks

    By Kyle T

    from Buffalo, NY

Comments about Meinl Snare Bongo Cajon:

I've been playing for the better part of 13 years now, so I was suprised to see this unique little instrument; So I bought it, and I couldn't put it down! The playing surface is smooth and forgiving, a lot softer than, say, a djembe rim for a long period of time. That being said, the snares should be adjusted to reduce rattle and I found that the slippery frame of the bongo cajon moves around too much with jeans. That being said, for a pretty cheap, great sounding drum, this Snare Bongo Cajon is a great addition to any percussionist's arsenal.

cajon must be latin for 'Rad' !!!

    By Tracy DC

    from plattsburgh

Comments about Meinl Snare Bongo Cajon:

This versatile drum looks sharp and sounds very organic. it may take time to learn about the diverse sounds that come from different striking surfaces, but yuo'll have a great time with this ultra-simple exquisite little drum. The snare strings are detachble- it soounds cool with or witout. I am a bass player by trade, and I wanted to learn more about percussion and accents. I also love drum circles. This cajon looks like a million dollars, sounds richer than pricier models and it has also become a conversation piece for its cool sound and Flinstonian simplicity. Go ahead- vamos a cantar con el cajon!
