Versatile and effective for multiple music applications.

Bright and full with a warm shimmer that carries well. Very dynamic and full-bodied, with immediate response. Washy stick sound with lively intensity and medium sustain. A good all-purpose crash.

Made with CuSn8 bronze for a bright, warm, and energetic tone. Great for live and studio gigs requiring high energy and the utmost in precision and musicality. Heavier models have been added to round out the original classic series by providing increased volume.

The Paiste 2002 Crash Cymbals, and the 2002 Thin Crash are by far the best sounding crash cymbals ever made, if you like bright & shimmery with a ton of even sustain that doesn't drop of sharply. Only the Classic or standard crash cymbals along with the thin crash sound this way. The medium crash or heavier can be problematic. I would consider the 2002 crash and thin crash in sizes up to 20" to be the Stradivarius of crash cymbals. A classic recording of Paiste Thin 2002s can be heard on "Pet Your Friends" 16,18 and 19" thin crash were used, along with 18" and 20" standard 2002s. I first bought the 17,18 and 19" thin crash, then the 18 and 20" standard crashes and it's hard to tell them apart sound wise. The slightly heavier classic or standard crash have a little more volume but they both respond the same and sustain is almost identical. The 19" thin crash and the 20" crash sound a bit darker from the drummers perspective, but 10' away or when recorded, they sound ultra bright and not dark at all...weird! Another weird thing is the 22" ride sounds much deeper than the 24" ride...I have both the 20 and the 24" and use both with the 20 ride just to the right and over the 24". I also use the Zildjian 16 and 18" "A" customs to compliment these awesome crash cymbals. If you buy the 18 & 20" Crash, or the 17,18, and 19" Thin Crash you will be amazed at how great they sound and how even the sustain is...Simply Brilliant! As a warning...If you go heavier than the Classic or Standard 2002 Crash cymbals, you have gone beyond the design parameters and might not like them...I didn't...Also the Paiste website states they are medium wt. They are not, they are in fact closer to a thin to med-thin wt. The thin crash are thin to very thin like "A" customs but stronger and not as easy to crack. They are also not meant to be played like a drunk clubbing seals...Camco Drums and 2002s, That's Just Plain Spoiled!

I bought this cymbal from a guy who bought in the 70's (yes, i checked the manufacture number!) and it has a great high tone, long sustain, and slow attack. Th only problem is that since the cymbal is so dense and thick, every time I crash it, it gives me this annoying ringing note that you can hear over the crash itself. Luckily, you can only hear it when you are a few feet away from it, and it isnt audible in recordings either. Overall, its a great cymbal, and it will last a LONG TIME because of its density.

Comments about Paiste 2002 Crash Cymbal:

I wanted a large crash to use for large crash/ride parts. This cymbal definitely delivers. I've just finished tracking an album using it (Valley of the Sun is the band, Electric Talons of the Thunderhawk is the upcoming release you can hear it on) and couldn't be happier. The cymbal did arrive with some damage, a dent on the edge that I'm assuming happened in transit somewhere. It doesn't affect the tone so I wasn't too worried about it. I do definitely recommend this cymbal though, in any size; classic cymbal sound that can't be beat.

The best, most responsive sounding cymbals i have ever played are the 2002 series. However they they also the thinest. I am afraid of hitting them too hard they will crack easier than other brands.

Overall, this is an awesome crash. If you want a bright, shimmery crash cymbal this is for you.
This is a great crash! I have the 16". It opens up with an explosion and then washes away with a sweet shimmer that is characteristic of the 2002 series. Very clean and sweet cymbal. It sounds like Jesus himself in live contexts.
Great quality on this crash too. It looks nice and feels like it will last a while.
This cymbal is a little pricey, but you get what you pay for.

                    The Grail, Achieved

                    By basementdwellers

Comments about Paiste 2002 Crash Cymbal:

Just bought my first 2002 Crashes, 19" and 20", used, brought them home and played them every way I could think of. Have a used 2002 China 18" I plan to pair these with, as well as a 505 16" Crash and 404 20" Ride that sounds great as a crash. Those are quality B8 cymbals from the 70s or 80s but when I saw this deal I couldn't pass. Sound-wise, the 2002 is the Grail of B8 cymbals. I don't care for the B8s of the other big two, and while Meinl has some nice B8s (Mb8 line), this is where it all begins and ends for me. Played as rides on bell or bow, they are glassy, shimmery, washy but with clear stick definition. Played as crashes, incomparable. Paiste website says weight is Medium, and that the weight of the "Medium" crash is Medium Heavy. Either way, any cymbal will crack if hit incorrectly or dropped. Read on cymbal makers' websites the correct way to hit a cymbal, and these should last for years. Only their high price (new) keeps me from giving all 5s. Visually stunning.

Zildjian owner turned to Paiste 2002

Comments about Paiste 2002 Crash Cymbal:

Well I read through a lot of other reviews about Paiste 2002 cymbals, so let's see if I can put a new spin on it. When I started playing I bought Zildjain ZBT cymbals, I thought I should get cymbals that were thick, so I could learn how to hit them the proper way. After learning the right way to hit a cymbal, I started replacing my ZBT's with Zildjian "A" series, a great cymbal. I have New beat Hihats, a 20" Ping ride, 14 and 15" fast crashes, and a 18" Armond crash. Then it happened I bought a 19" Paiste 2002 to add to my kit and I could not believe the sound that these have. They cut through the mix excellent, I now am the proud owner of 8 different Paiste cymbals, after just ordering a new 22" ride from M-F. Opinions are like----well you know. All I know is that Paiste is the only cymbal I will ever buy. Nothing against Zildjian, I just think 2002's sound much better. PS. still haven't cracked a cymbal and I play METAL. just learn how to hit em kids. :D

I own the 18inch crash cymbal and it's awesome to say the least. I used it to record a few songs a few months ago and i only kept receiving compliments from the recording engineer on how great it sounded and easy to record it was... This cymbal is the best out there along with any other from the 2002 series from paiste. Don't waste your money trying different brands. Get paistes only... you wont be disappointed!!!
