I just purchased this drum a few hours ago for use as my primary snare and it is the best sounding snare I have ever played. I spent about five minutes tuning it, just tightened the batter head and the snares and it now has a beautiful bright pop, but has a bit warmer of a sound than the steel or brass version, which makes it more versatile. For such a little drum it has excellent projection. I just switched from a 6.5x14 that did not project nearly as well. My only complaint is that the catch seems a bit cheap, but there is nothing wrong with it. Also, a 14" model might be a bit better, but the only maple piccolo snares I saw were $400 or more. If you're looking to remove the bass from your snare to give your set a good contrast, this is the drum for you.

After playing in a band for years, I have been recently begun playing as a solo artist, live. I've been experimenting with looping guitar, vocals and synth-pad, but Ive recently added percussion to the mix. I use a very small, stripped-down set for this, a small floor tom, a Crash/Ride cymbal and a piccolo snare, all played while standing. After trying several full size snares, I found that the M1330 worked best with my limited set-up. I feel it added a unique and powerful crack to my set, that helped to fill everything out. If youre an auxiliary percussionist and have room for a snare, the M1330 would certainly be a top pick for this. Not to mention, it looks great in both finishes.
It's a snare. You can turn it on and off. If you don't have many cymbals it will fit in your cymbal bag.
Well built. I gig regularly and have had more problems with the screws on the snare-stand than the M1330 itself.
Great value for the quality.

I bought this snare used to function as a secondary snare on my kit. I didn't realize what I had bought though, because it quickly turned into my main snare. It is by far the best snare I have ever had any experience with and, has a perfect, loud, sharp sound that will never be outdone.

This Piccolo snare will grab you like an alligator. I use it with my (portable) Traps A400 kit (the brand, Traps Drums), since it is quite easy to schlepp around. I've played for 50 years and have played many of the best (including my near 45 yo Slingerland Artist snare and >35 yo Gene Krupa COB snare). This drum has flawless tone and may well be one of the easiest drums I've used to bring to proper tuning. The strainer is absolutely flawless. If you are needing a piccolo, this is the drum you need.

I've been playing drums for six years and I started out on a pulse snare. I moved on to a maple gretsch snare drum which I absolutely love. Over time though I started to shift musical styles and currently when I gig, I mainly play funk and jazz. I needed a snare that had more pop than my gretsch and that's when I found this baby. She's really perfect for the price and the maple is beautiful. I put on a Evans HD Dry Batter head on top and a Evans Hazy 300 on the snare side and now she really just pops. I can't get enough of her, the volume and versatility is just incredible. I can play very low during a solo but then when the band starts to jam I can easily cut through the music. If you're thinking about getting a piccolo snare, just stop thinking and go out and get this one already.

I was in the market to buy a new snare and after countless hours of research, I decided that this was the best buy. Let me tell you, I have not regretted buying this one bit. The finish is absolutley beautiful (natural that is) and looks much better in person than in the photo. The heads that came with it are perfect, no replacement needed. This snare is very crisp and articulate and the rimshots are amazing. I did find it a little ringy to my liking, but I just slapped one moongel on it and sounded perfect. I tuned the head medium-tight, because in my opinion, when it's cranked down it looses depth. I love this drum and it has been a pleasure to play.

i own the 3 x 13 it sounds amazing its loud and the rim shots are poppy. for its size this snare drum has great volume. i would recommend it for jazz drummers or funk. ussually i play it in the church and it is a great budget for the price. it came with remo coated ambassador on the top and ambassador snare on the bottom. i would recommend you to tune it real tight. if you tune it loose it has much resonance.

Came with a great Remo Ambassador head on mine. Sounds great with a little tuning. I muffled mine a bit, but I let the overtones ring a bit. I play a lot of jazz, and this snare cuts through and sounds wonderful with jazz music. Rim shots are also a pleasure to play.

I got this snare about 3 months ago and it still sounds as tight as it did when I first got it. You can really get a good pop or crack when you give it a rim shot. I recommend it for jazz and funk drummers. It's surprisingly small, and lightweight, but it is distinct enough to hear whenever you're playing a gig.

I purchased this snare about a year ago. When tuned properly it sounds real good. The only problem is, when its miced up, it loses all its pop. I suggest this snare if you plan to play it not miced up.
