Comments about Pearl Piccolo Steel Snare Drum:

You've read all the reviews from other drummers for the Pearl Piccolo 13" x 3" steel snare. I have owned this product for about 6 mos. now and I can tell you, the positive comments from the reviewers are all 100% correct! The Pearl steel piccolo packs a powerfl crack for a small 13" x 3" drum. Tune it tight and it will hold its tune and blows away the other wannabe piccolos. The coated Ambassadore does wear down sort of quickly over a few months but since this snare has become my main snare drum, that's to be expected. I own a Pearl 14 x 5 steel snare and a Yamaha stage custom steel snare. The pearl doesnt stay tuned very well...the Yamaha is a good all round snare drum, but I love the Piccolo. It's just a cut above the rest. It has become my main snare drum. And don't get me started on the price, it's very affordable. BUY IT!

Don't overlook this snare drum

Comments about Pearl Piccolo Steel Snare Drum:

I own this snare for some time now, it definitely has a great sound to it, starting from the short steel shell which is perfect for high tunings and it also helps out drying the drum a bit, to the solid lugs and all-steel throw off with strap cords to attach the snare wire which is a nice thing for a snare of this price range, the only thing that is already good obviously but could have been nice to get is a couple of 2.3mm pearl hoops, but then again I think that's meant for another range of pearl snare drums, anyways this drum is fantastic for its price!

Comments about Pearl Piccolo Steel Snare Drum:

Excellent quality and workmanship at an unbeatable price point. Right out of the box it comes with Remo Ambassador coated batter and clear snare heads with decent 20 strand steel Pearl snare which is a huge plus as I was ready to upgrade those pieces. Saved me $$. Lugs and triple flange hoops are well made in the Pearl Tradition. Sound is snappy and perfect for reggae drumming rimshots and cross sticking. Right amount of rich overtones w/ no choking for dub, etc.
Coming from the Mapex MPX steel 13x3 piccolo steel snare at the same price point, I'm glad I sold it as this snare is by far superior in quality and sound. You could see the weld points on the Mapex bearing edges. By contrast, the Pearl bearing edges are completely seamless which has a huge effect on overall sound. I should have known better before buying the Mapex snare as I also own the Masters MCX shell pack which quality and sound is superior imo to many other top brands at that price point. Very happy with this Pearl snare. They hit a home run with this snare which is perfect for reggae drumming.

I've had this snare for about 4 years now and I have nothing bad to say about it. I bought it as a side snare but it quickly became my primary. Even my drum instructor at the time made several comments about how sharp it is. If you want a great snare for an even better price, this is it.

Comments about Pearl Piccolo Steel Snare Drum:

Great snare with a huge tuning range. You can get a lot of different sounds out of this tiny little snare. If you're considering it just buy it. It's awesome. Great high-end crack with minimal annoying steel snare ring if you choose the right head and know how to tune.

Comments about Pearl Piccolo Steel Snare Drum:

Ok. I bought this snare a couple weeks ago and I am more than happy with it. Out of the box, the heads will need to be tightened. Don't think the snare will sound perfect automatically, but there is VERY little you have to do to it.Just tighten the top and bottom heads until there is substantial tension on the lugs. Don't over-do it, but you should be able to feel when you're at the right tension. (stop tightening when you have to struggle to turn your key, then bring it back about a quarter turn.)The batter head should have VERY little give when you press on the center of it, giving you a fantastic stick bounce. Also, you need to tighten the snare itself the same way so there's no snare rattle. The result will be a very nice high-pitched pop. There's no need to muffle this snare. At the right tension, the decay is PERFECT. Just enough to give it a "snare" sound and not a "box" sound.Overall, this is probably the best sounding piece on my kit. I have it suspension mounted and attached to a cymbal stand so that it sits above and a little to the left of my normal snare, giving me easy access to both. Buy this snare people. I guarantee you will not be dissapointed.

      SUPERB Snare

      By PearlSnareOwner

      from Chicago, IL

Comments about Pearl Piccolo Steel Snare Drum:

This snare is very cutting and powerful. I started using it as a side snare, just to give my set some different sound, but after a while, I realized I'd started using it more than my primary snare! I switched this drum to my primary, and haven't looked back since! It's surprisingly powerful for such a shallow shell, and it cuts through heavy music like a knife through butter. I HIGHLY recommend this snare.

      Beyond awesome

      By Anonymous

      from Undisclosed

Comments about Pearl Piccolo Steel Snare Drum:

I bought this snare to be used as a secondary and it quickly became the only snare drum I use. It replaced the aluminum CD I was using which cost me over $500.00. The solid crack and volume is incredable. Any one who owns this drum and doesn't like it has to be from another planet. I added a sound ring to eliminate the extra ring which didn't really bother me and now it's even better. The price and sound makes it the snare drum deal of the century.

Very solidly built. Comes with Remo batter. New rims will make it sound and look like a much more high end drum. Nice volume and sensitivity. Decent tone for a being so shallow. Great little aux snare for the money.

        Screaming Snare, Good Price

        from Undisclosed

Comments about Pearl Piccolo Steel Snare Drum:

If you know how to properly tune it it'll be the best snare you've ever owned. Heads are good and can take an increadible beating, snare provides a screaming snap, throw-off is easily adjustable, and overall if it's nice and tight it'll scream.
