After checking out videos of this snare on Youtube I immediately wanted it, and it didn't disappoint. Especially considering the price, I can't see why anyone wouldn't want to buy it. The depth seems to give it more volume and even with the stock heads, it has a good punch. I just got it so it hasn't really taken a beating yet but so far, I'm glad I ordered it and its probably going to be my main snare.

An amazing drum - - and not just for the price.  Slap on a new Ambassador, crank the bottom head, and you've got the newest workhorse in your collection.  The 6" depth is a great compromise between more common sizes like 5.5 and 6.5.  I was holding out for a brass or bronze shell, but I quit looking when I played this at my local drum shop.  Get it, you really won't be sorry

Features:

Features were good. Heavy hoops, decent throwoff, diecast end butt and upgraded snare wires. Decent original equipment heads too.

Quality:

Beautiful drum. Sounds average. Quality was great except for the following on mine. The holes in the lugs for the swivel nuts (receivers) were machined too far out from the shell. The result was that the tension rods went in at too much of an angle. They tried very hard to cross-thread. Also the top of the rods would barely pass by the flange on the hoop so that the drum key didn't have space to work properly. Of course it had to go back. Bummer. I got the PP Big Black Brass snare though and love it.

Value:

It's a good value if you get one that works properly.

Overall:

See above comments for why rated so low. If mine hadn't been defective, it would have received a high rating.

I bought the 6"x14" 10 lug drum. I have owned a few steel shell snares in the past and found some to be brash and overwhelming with volume and brightness and lacking in character. Although this drum is loud it's tone is pleasing. I recommend a coated Remo Emperor batter head, or an Evans coated G2. On the bottom an Ambassador or Hazy 300. The tone is bright like any steel shell, but this drum has a rich tone at the sametime. I actually prefer this drum to the BOB Black Beauty brass snare that Pork pie sells for about $100 more. You can't really go wrong with this drum for the price if you want a well made workhorse snare drum.
