      Sabian

Extra-thin edge designed for hand slapping puts out hot, 'edgy' response.

The Sabian AAX El Sabor Picante Hand Crash cymbal is designed specifically for percussionists. Available in 16" and 18" sizes, this innovative model features three very distinct playing surfaces -- two for playing with stick, one for playing by hand. The raw, non-hammered bell is ideal for playing the clave. The unlathed, medium-weight center area is a dry ride area. And the lathed, extra thin outer half is highly sensitive, making it ideal for slapping hot, shimmering sounds by hand. Its name--El Sabor ('the Flavor') and Picante ('hot') combine to define its very unique character.

Commented Sabian product specialist Kevin Laskey: "Though it was designed for Latin players, the Picante Hand Crash is a cymbal for percussionists playing any style of music. And while it is named 'Hand Crash', the center half and bell of the Picante Crash are for playing with a stick."

Karl Perazzo, who evaluated Picante prototypes with Santana for over a year says, "The Picante Hand Crash is the hottest cymbal I've ever heard. It's great that Sabian continues to design sounds for every type of player. This Picante Hand Crash is a good example of just how creative they are."

Inspired by such legendary percussionists as Perazzo and Richie 'Gajate' Garcia, the Picante Hand Crash is the latest El Sabor model from this award-winning cymbal maker. With its appearance and sound shaped by high-density AAX hammering and half 'n' half surface lathing, the Picante Hand Crash is individually hand crafted by Sabian artisans using SABIAN B20 'caste' bronze, the world's most durable and musical cymbal metal.

All Sabian AAX cymbals are available in Natural and Brilliant finishes and are quality-protected by Sabian's one-year warranty.

      amazing for everything

Comments about Sabian AAX El Sabor Picante Hand Crash Cymbal:

This is an amazing cymbal. I sounds so great and you don't need to use your hand trust me. The way this is made it gives it a good crash sound and a great china. Yes, it is great as a china. It has a high tone sound like a china and that metal kind of sound. It has great sound with a full kit for slow music when you do want that loud crash sound. I haven't even used it with my hand drum.

Also great for unplugged rock accents

      By subsonikk-XEUL9

      from El Paso, TX

Comments about Sabian AAX El Sabor Picante Hand Crash Cymbal:

I have the 18" and true to its name, gives my hand percussion setup some "Hot Flavor." Paired with a Djembe and an egg shaker, it's GREAT for accents. Handle with care, the other reviewers were spot-on about how thin the edges are as well as the responsiveness to strikes [hard vs soft]. May take some getting used to if you're a drumset player like me, accustomed to immediate stick response from your crashes.

Not a bad cymbal at all

      By Kevin Mc.-CNNOH

      from Nevada City, CA

Comments about Sabian AAX El Sabor Picante Hand Crash Cymbal:

The sound from the 16" is quite bright when struck by either hand or stick. The makeup of the cymbal is light to allow it to respond to hand attacks, which also makes it a bit open to dents. All in all the sound is great. There is a bit of a delayed flare when striking it lightly with your fingers, almost like a tam-tam (gong). It takes a quick moment for the sound to flare (not an immediate crash - but more of a quick flare). When struck hard with the hand - you get a quick and responsive crash. When played with sticks, there are some overtones due to the thin nature of this cymbal, so stay near the bell with your sticks and it sounds fine. Brushes, blasticks and birch tala-wands sound GREAT - as do mallets for crescendos.
